Searching for "site:androidforums.com EarlyMon net neutrality" may yield insight into my views expressed previously, no promises on the search results though.

For purposes of our discussion, let's put it all under the heading - carriers can know about your connectivity using various methods.
I was just wondering whether DPI could contribute to the ability to detect/track tethering. Sorry that came across as an inquiry about views. My knowledge is from the Net Neutrality context, too, and I understand the sensitivity there.

Good morning and happy almost Friday everyone!

Hopefully its a quiet day at work today - definitely seems like it will be though. Took this shot this morning, filtered through instagram, but still came out real cool.

No problem, I didn't take it as a personal question but rather a technical one as you intended.

Let me put it this way - instead of DPI let's use "knife" in place of deep packet inspection, substitute "wife" for internet traffic, and see how the question adds up.

Does your carrier use a knife on your wife to see if you are tethering?

I don't know how to answer that without implying illegal activity on the part of the carrier, nor know how to answer without opening a discussion that would have to lead inevitably to areas that I am constrained from discussing, and that's why I am avoiding the question.

Nothing wrong with you and others discussing it, but staff (red or green) has to stay out of that part. Sorry about that, I understand that you are asking something simple and fundamental, but rules are rules, so it is what it is.

For those unfamiliar, internet messages travel in packets. Comcast was found to be using deep packet inspection to evaluate if people _might_ _possibly_ be downloading movies via bittorrenting and throttling traffic rates down to practically zero if they _assumed_ that was going on. And they got into a world of hurt over it.

There was a great deal of political and legal fallout from that. Googling for Comcast deep packet inspection (with or without torrent added) can lead folks interested in learning more.

That's really all that I can say.

But eavesdropping is an interesting question, isn't it?

I just used that search and found that I'd linked some very interesting articles in the Net Neutrality thread regarding one of the major carriers.

As for the other/above... yeah. No.

A lot of people encounter that, Pup, the important thing is you realized it in time to bow out before you were... ahem... obliterated from the face of the earth

P.S. Sure are spending a lot of time in here lately Early... Thinking of trading in your LTEvo for a Nexus?

Welcome Marc and Bymis. I agree with the other folks and saying if you have any thoughts of rooting, do it pretty soon after you get your Nexus. If you want to hold off a few days or week or so, just don't go crazy with too much customization as you'll have to start all over again.
I am a regular and i resemble that remark!

No, loving the LTEvo, and got it for a steal.

BTW - what do you call it when someone has an obsession with complicated apartment buildings?

A complex complex complex.

Which is what I think some of you cats are trying to give me!

Most psychologists just call it the 3C complex. Don't ask me why, since what they are saying is that it is the complex complex complex complex, and that just makes no sense. I honestly think they are trying to make everyone crazy... Although, when you think about it, makes perfect sense

Well, I have had the AT&T one X for a few days now, put it through its paces storm chasing, as well as everyday use and... well. You don't really want to know what I actually think of the device...

Thanks for the review AJ.

I may not go with a Nexus as my next phone - it really depends on the development for the device. I just want the latest and greatest.

Yeah, it's Thursday - I don't render well on a week day. I find I have better resolution and less pixelization on a weekend after a good sleep...

Good morning and TGIF!

Today is the girlfriend's birthday. Had her open one of her presents last night. One of her favorite bands pressed a vinyl and we never knew about it. Well I ordered it about two weeks ago when I stumbled across it and I kept telling her how annoyed I was that they never pressed a record. Well she almost wrote a letter to the band asking them to press one of their albums into a record. Let me tell you how excited she was to open it last night.

Tonight will consist of more presents and lots of drinking. Yup, exciting.

We Happy Birthday to your girlfriend Stingy!! Nice going on the vinyl, good find!

TGIF for the Friday folk!!

Yesterday we had one of those meetings at work that add more work to my job, and seriously reinforced how I need a new one, just wish companies were hiring here!! It was a really kinda funny in a really bad way...the meeting included not only the group I work in, but another, very outspoken group...all being trained by my supervisor...but the training was for everyone on a new program he developed...but never consulted the people who actually do the job before implementing it....and there are some serious concerns about the "reality" ....which is something he apparently (and verbally said) he does not care about...only that the new program is in place And he gets credit for developing it....cool...now let's go make it work-it goes live Monday....
Well that outspoken group all came to my defense, without me saying anything...and it just pissed him off...we will see what he will do now.

Tried my first bottle of homebrew last night....may have some questions for the more experienced brewers if someone wanted to pm me????
I opened the bottle...and the thing foamed out 3/4 of the contents!!! The beer was good, tasted great, but apparently I did not filter out all of the residue, because there was a good sized pile at the bottom of the bottle..as soon as I disturbed it...woosh...foam!!

So it seems like Google Wallet is missing from the Play Store. Suspicious after American Express complained about it.
