Good morning all and happy Monday. Dirty chai tea latte should help me get through part of the morning, hopefully.
Nice relaxing weekend even with the Jets loss, but oh well. Need to figure out a new issue with the car - stupid fans are staying on so hoping its nothing terribly expensive. Otherwise got the new headlights in and what a difference they make - I can finally see at night!

B2 looks pretty good and is up to my expectations for AOKP. The only thing that doesn't work that I really need is the backlight settings. For some reason, no ROM I have tried has functioning ability to change backlight levels.
And you're right about major news outlets fawning over the iDevices...they always have. Kind of a shock to see one say Android beats an iDevice in any way.

Sorry for the delay, Copacetic, just VERY busy IRL these days...
2.3 is pretty nice, the same cleaned up Tools menu from 2.2.4, running Lean Kernel and otherwise, I haven't really had time to find anything new. But it's nice to be on the bleeding edge

I backed up everything (apps, data, call log, messages) in TiBU and wiped away. I was up & running again inside 45 minutes... and that includes setting all my ringtones and stuff back up.

Cheif, seriously let me know if the 3D on that is worth it. We'll be getting a 3D enabled TV mostly likely pretty soon and I would like to know if 3D is worth it firstly, and what movies are worth buying in 3D secondly. Also just assuming my PS3 is 3D capable...I think they are.

BTW just grabbed these from eBay after reading an XDA thread - for $13 even if the quality is meh it'll still be cool to have. Didn't want to drop $50 on the Photojojo ones because not sure how much I would use them.

Geek, I am IN LOVE with my 3DTV. I have never owned a more versatile and gorgeous piece of gear ( other then Ginny my Nexus ).
The Samsung UN55D8000 is 1080p, 3D, and wirelessly connects to the Internet via my N-speed home wifi router. It has about a 1/3" bezel: so the picture just jumps out at you. It is their premiere TV and has a price tag to go with it... but I would advise you save your pennies up for Black Friday.
My deal:
I jumped on Amazon Thanksgiving night last year, to find that the price was $1939 including white-glove shipping (bring it in, unbox it, set it up and test it out, then haul the shipping materials away). Balancing the possibility of an even lower price the next day or whether it would sell out at that price, I went ahead and bought it with NO regrets. So for a little more than the price of a Walmart TV we got a top-of-the-line model.
The money I saved went to extra 3D glasses (the SSG-3500CRs are so lightweight you forget you're wearing them) and some 3D movies.
As far as 3D movies go, there are TWO that you absolutely, positively need to see in 3D: Hugo (out now and simply astounding) and Avatar (on pre-order for release next month).
Titanic will be watched by us VERY soon - likely this weekend -but is getting great reviews: Since it wasn't shot in 3D it's not popping-out, in-your-face type stuff, but rather it adds subtle depth and clarity. The movie was scanned in 4K and then color-corrected, THEN 3D processed... so it should look stunning.
I personally like Cave of Forgotten Dreams, a Werner Herzog documentary about the paintings in Chauvet Cave, France, which represent the oldest human art in the world at 35,000 years old! My only complaint to THAT movie is that it's about 30 minutes too long... but I understand that he really wanted to capture it well, considering the extraordinary security surrounding the cave (to protect the paintings from damage or even mold caused by human breath) and the likelihood that he would never get back in there again.
That's about it as far as must-see stuff I've found. We have Tron Legacy and Megamind in 3D... but really GOOD movies, in really GOOD 3D, are sparse but growing in number. I'll let you know how Titanic looks when we watch it.

Afternoon all, flashed 2.3 last night. So far all is great. The biggest pain to me about flashing is having to set up all the home screens again (TIBU takes case of everything else). That is until I discovered apex let's you back up your home screens...Woot! After flashing I was all set back up in about 20 minutes.
Chief, the only problem I'm running into with deal shopping and waiting till thanksgiving is I'm looking at two specific series of tvs. The Panasonic P50st50/gt50 or the Samsung PN51e6500/7000. All of those are becoming more scarce by the day
That's the spirit!! I'm looking for some good Christmas gifts.
Perhaps I will too. Wife and I don't give eachother Xmas gifts out of a savings of money, but I suppose the rest of my family will probably want something.
I'm going to take a second to rant. Please ignore if you don't want to read a rant and if you do read it, it isn't directed at you. It's not directed at anyone here, just general people we run into on an almost daily basis.
Rant 1:
If you haven't already been made privy to a young couple's situation regarding life plans, especially in the area of children, then chances you are never going to be or they just don't know you well enough yet. Constantly asking when the couple is going to have children or why they don't have children yet does several things, but none of them are good. It sure doesn't get you any more information than what you already have regarding that situation. You aren't going to make the decision for them and you won't push them along any quicker than they are going. So just stop. There are reasons they don't have children. Those reasons could include: they aren't ready financially, they aren't ready because of relationship problems, they don't have a stable job, they plan to adopt instead of have their own, they are having trouble conceiving, they just simply don't want children. You don't know that reason and if they haven't told you, they don't want you to know yet or just don't want you to know period. It's not your business so stop asking.
Rant 2:
We all know children complicate things. We all know children can also be a joy. You don't have to spend every breath declaring those things. Appropriate responses to someone telling you why they were late do not include "Just wait till you have kids!". Appropriate responses to someone complaining about bills is not "Just wait till you have kids!". Appropriate responses to a couple telling you how happy they are together do not include "Just wait till you have kids!". Just stop. We already know about kids and trouble and joy they can bring. We've heard it a million times, just stop. If you're kids did something to make you happy or tick you off or make your life difficult, feel free to share that, but DO NOT respond to our every sitation with some remark about how we don't have kids and how we don't know how hard it can be or how happy life can be.
Sorry for the rant, but I had to vent.
On another note. That cold front pushed through and todays highs are in the low 70's and lows tonight in the mid 40's! Fall is here

Geek, I sorta understand. (my personal rant, I'll hide)
Two of my siblings are big into kids. One has 2 the other ready for their 3rd.
My older sister just got married a few years ago and not sure if she'll have any. I personally am not looking for any anytime soon. Time spent with them, especially concerning my work schedule, would be completely insufficient and I would never want to rob them of that. I really don't think the wife and I could give enough time dedicated to a pet let alone a child, so until work situations change, it won't happen.
My folks have never pressured us considering they have 4 and soon 5 grandchildren to visit! My wife's folks, on the other hand, as she's an only child occasionally feels some slight pressure so I can understand what's going on. Hopefully they can understand your best wishes!

Please do not tell me how my kids would be better off with (insert real life and adult explanations of life here) if only I would tell them....seriously. I will talk to them how I CHOOSE instead of what someone else tells me is the best way. Seriously...my kids, their life, parents choice...... /rant

Plasma is nice, but IMO it was a gap-filler technology at the time because LED screens couldn't be produced above a certain size. Our LED TV's on night and day; and it costs just a dollar or two a month to run.
Unless, that is, you plan to sit at an extreme angle to the TV rather in front of it... in which case plasma rules the roost.
But it's your choice in the end, Geek; and regardless of the technology, you'll love the end result. Sounds like you're ready to make the leap into 3D and I say GO FOR IT!
BTW I snuck a look at Titanic 3D last night. Curiosity just got the better of me. The movie is so long (and the data on the discs can only be compressed so much) that the 3D version is on 2 Blu-Ray discs ( standard Blu-Ray is on one disc... but who cares about that one? ). I popped in Disc Two and watched a bit of screaming passengers scrambling to get off the sinking, splitting ship. And I must say this:
The movie is positively gab-smacking. Not only is every creak and groan, every scream and cry in excruciating clarity... but the imagery is haunting. It truly puts you ABOARD THAT SHIP, in that panicked scene, on that night.
So absolutely: put Titanic on the list as a 3rd must-have 3D movie for your collection alongside Hugo and Avatar. I don't know what your tastes are in movies, but these three have near universal appeal.
Okay, enough about 3DTV so early in the morning... BTW hi Gnexers!

Today is the day we notify our management:
We are choosing to go to Austin.
But.....basically what that choice means to us is this: the company will not fill our positions in Austin. We still have until January 1, before we report to Austin. If we find that PERFECT job between now and December that keeps us here....they will get our resignations if it comes to that (which they understand...and partially accept/are willing to discuss at least), otherwise the weekend of the end of December...we move to Austin.
Difficult decision...yes. perfect solution....no. best option...maybe....a better option than unemployment....definitely.

A few responses to your points, Chief. I honestly think LED and Plasma are both gap-filler techs until large OLEDs come along. That being said, back to the Plasma/LED debate.
The only LED tvs that can match the picture quality of a good Plasma are full-array local dimming LED sets which are much more power hungry than the edge-lit LEDs (and thus not many out there). Still less than Plasma, but the energy efficiency reasoning gets cut drastically there. Besides, I make tons of power here at work
Secondly, even the best full-array local-dimming sets experience some blooming and picture issues if there isn't some really good processing going on to control that dimming. By the time you get to that level of quality you're looking at a $2,500+ TV. The Panasonic and Samsung models I'm looking at have some of the best picture quality ratings ever and are in the $1,000-$1,500 price range now Hence the reason I'm looking at those. My only concern about going plasma is when we sell our current house and get our new one built and moved in it. It's going to be much better lit with ambient lighting than our current house and I worry a little about the picture getting washed out, but the models I'm looking at handle it fairly well and are some of the brigher plasmas out there. I'll just have to make sure we get some blinds to block out that ambient light if watching during the day (which is rare).
Bottom line: I'm going for the best picture quality bang for my buck. Plasma is a no-brainer.
