We probably won't feel the truly bad stuff here, but they're predicting a couple inches of rain with tropical storm force gusts. Will make for a terrible Halloween for the trick or treaters though.

Morning folks! First line of really heavy rain is going to hit us in an hour or so. The restaurant is closed today so I'll be home. All Metro and bus service is canceled. Pretty sure the city will basically just be shut down. Made one last trip to Whole Foods last night and it was EMPTY! Got plenty of snacks though and the beer fridge is stocked, so we're good.

Good luck everyone, keep us in the loop. I'm slightly jealous as I am a hurricane nut, been through quite a few, they always fascinate me. Of course probably because I've never endured an eye wall of a Cat 2+. A cat 1 is really not that bad, especially if you aren't in the storm surge zone. Last few frames on satellite looks like she's turning in. NJ gonna get the worst of it stay safe BB and Steven.

Yeah, looks like we'll just get dumped with mostly rain. Only hurricane I really experienced was Bob in 91 in MA (sure Pup remembers it). Wasn't so much of the rain as that storm as the wind. TONS of downed trees and we lost power for a week.
This doesn't look to be so bad, but it's only begun. Been raining steadily all morning and it supposed to pick up any second now. I'll have to keep an eye on our basement storage rooms as they tend to flood pretty easily.
Yeah downed trees and no power are always a hassle, but most buildings can withstand 75-80 mph winds. So just in terms of people, hunkering down at home should avoid most tragic stories.
Yeah, we're on the second floor of an ancient brick house. All underground power lines (which, with all the rain, could pose an issue). 4 years of living here, power has only gone out twice, one of which was a scheduled outage. Not overly concerned. But, all the tablets and phones are charged just in case.
Heck of a run by the Giants!! Glad we got to be a small part of their season this year. If my Braves couldn't win it all, I'm glad the Giants did. Hoping to see Chris Stratton out there for you guys next year.
Is anyone else here terrified of the dentist or am I alone in this? I really hate having those utensils in my mouth, it freaks me out.

Be safe everyone. My brother is in Virginia Beach, he is a boat captain. All power is out, the water has flooded the marina he is harbored in, the yacht is getting banged around quite a bit, the power lines and hookups for the marina are all under water. It was pretty bad overnight and getting worse.
Not terrified, but really don't like it. Last time I had to get x-rays, I was sweating to death. If you're going soon, I wish you the best of luck.
I was supposed to go to today, my first visit after moving and finding a new dentist. I was searching for my group number and member ID on Aetna and decided to look and see who else was around here and found a different place to go to. So now my appointment isn't until Nov.12.
Wish ya luck Halon! I went about 8 years between visits for reasons of lack of insurance and then laziness. Fortunately, my teeth were fine, no cavities. Got a reference from my boss at work. Doc is really friendly but the technicians can be a touch jerky with scraping.

Just read that the troops guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns will NOT be stopping for this storm. The Tomb has been constantly guarded, with meticulous attention to detail and precision, since 1937. And they will press on through Sandy.
Now THAT'S dedication, folks. There's military people, and then there are the Tomb Guards. Those guys are in a league all their own...

Morning folks!! We are still just really gusty and some drizzle. Supposedly now going to get whatever tonight. Everything is closed - including half of NYC. I think Steven is in the worst part though so keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Halon - I hate the dentist other than a regular cleaning so you are not alone.
The daughter (16 yrs old), alone in her dorm in West Village NYC, says that so far it looks "normal" outside with some gusts.
Told her to stay inside . Fully provisioned for the inevitable power failure. She is in Evac Area C, so hopefully they will stay put. Nothing like trusting your kid to 20-year-old RA's
Ironically, Verizon's LTE network runs on 700MHz "C Block" spectrum which has FCC "open access" rules attached to it, which require that any compatible device be allowed to connect. Google fought vociferously to put these rules in place, even participating in the FCC's spectrum auction to ensure Verizon paid the minimum bid price that triggered the rules. But the rules have turned out to be virtually meaningless in practice, as Verizon uses 700MHz in conjunction with CDMA spectrum that doesn’t have similar open access rules — so while Verizon might be legally required to support an unlocked LTE device, the legacy CDMA network still effectively keeps all of Verizon’s phones locked.

They aren't going to be able to go too far anyway - the city is shut down except for cabs and my brother said even those are a bit sparse today. (He is in the city until public transportation gets opened again - works for Fox 5 radio and always gets stuck when the weather gets bad)
Ugh, Big Red must be so agonizing to deal with lol. I really feel for google though, the price on the Nex4 is amazing, but i imagine a lot of people will see the no 4g and cry

I understand how they want to make it as standardized as possible (available on the most amount of networks). Just a bummer as I definitely couldn't handle a 3G phone again. Hear HSPA+ is decent, but don't think I can move from VZW.
Bummer, well it is what I expected. Google's experience with Verizon and the Galaxy Nexus will prevent another Nexus on Verizon until they switch over to VoLTE completely, which is years away.
Yeah, I am not thrilled Sandy bumped up to 90mph here today, that starts to hit the area that structures get damaged due to wind, and the storm surge is another 2 feet higher... Will be watching and praying...
Dumb question, could Photo Sphere be merely software restricted and come to other phones? That does look really cool.
I haven't seen anything yet that answers that. I imagine we will have it soon.
After seeing the latest video on the Nexus4 I would get it. But can't because of LTE. I would also like to get the Nexus10 so I could have all 3 Nexus devices.
Really interested to find out more about this Miracast stuff. Just bought a brand new tv but doubt it has that capability without a firmware update at least. Wondering if the GNex or N7 is capable?
Tegra 3 is supported for Miracast. I just read an article on Miracast a little bit ago and I can't find it now. Darn it.
I read one on it that said Tegra 3 supports it too, so it's possible for the N7...not sure about the GNex. That's a really awesome feature that goes a step better than DLNA. Really want that.
I live in the middle of PA and we are experiencing a constant 20mph wind that could possibly get up to 60 and there has been a constant rain all day. For those that live on the coast they are talking about an 11ft wall of water...yikes!

Our trees are very very bendy right now. The gusts are pretty strong. But not a lot of rain to go with it. Schools were just closed for tomorrow. The municipal building and library are both open from 8 to 9 for electronic charging for those who lose power. (Not sure it would be safe to drive there by that time tonight but it's a great thing for them to do.)
2 posts about it, geek. I'm guessing you really want it Lol.
Nah, I mean, it's no iPad This really is going to cause me to get in trouble with the wife if I'm not careful. I think I could sell the N7, my PS3, hmmm, what else...got to be something else so I could break even on it. If I sell the PS3 I gotta get another $100 so I can buy a blu-ray player to replace it. Maybe I could get $200 for the N7, $250 for the PS3 and games, and then find something to sell for $50.

BB, stay safe. Charged devices are not worth risking your life. Good luck New Jersey!

I would love to get it also. I have two original ps3s but I don't think I could bring myself to sell either one.
