Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone had a fabulous RL Friday. I got to see my brother the boat captain as he passed through in the North to South Trek last night, always a treat to see him even if it is just for dinner.
On a scale of 1 through 10, my tiredness is an 11. I feel like Tony Romo last Sunday......beat!
Yeah, I was a walking zombie at work yesterday myself.
Couple bits of news: my Chromebook finally shipped! Woohoo!
And, I got an email about a potential job. I asked the GM at a local pizza place (I go there frequently for lunch) if they were hiring a chef. At the time he said they couldn't afford the payroll for it. Well fast forward something like 6 months and he got back to me saying they were looking for one. Guess I'll have to get my resume back in order.
Good luck on the possible new job Dread. I'm also looking forward to getting your review of the Chrome book.
One of the things that I lost when our old desktop died was my resume. Have to start from scratch. Have to say, this time, it's getting backed up to the cloud!
Thanks to my dad, he put together a MASSIVE family tree of info that saved dates of when I was at previous employers. Huge thanks to him!
Anyone still interested? Really, if I was up for an upgrade, I'd still go with a Note 2. Really can't drop LTE.
At the same time, can't wait for the 4.2 base ROMs to come! Looks like Sourcery is ripping some features from it? CNA seems to have slowed down on development, perhaps I'll have to move over.

Ripping features they are. Team Sourcery has added (as optional mods) the camera & gallery - with functioning photosphere, the Deskclock (which SUCKS out loud IMO), and keyboard... complete with that swiping thing going on. Although reviews are mixed on it.
I may be a little more quiet and somber today than my usual bubbly self. Was in a wreck yesterday. No injuries, thankfully, just really P.O.'ed at the whole situation. My wonderful BABE of a 1997 conversion van lost everything from the hood down and the radiator out... and she STILL drives like a dream.
Thankfully I have comprehensive and collision on all our vehicles. If my insurance company tries to total her out I will throw absolute FITS. All she needs is a fender, bumper, grill and some lights. I'm mostly mad that she's not driveable for at least several days, until she gets fixed (and of course it happened on a Friday afternoon, so I have to wait out the whole weekend).
But while I'm ranting, what really got under my skin was my Darling Bride, who was in bed with a migraine. She had her phone right next to her... with the VOLUMES OFF!
I called her for FOUR HOURS! Fortunately, my son was working at a fast food restaurant (don't laugh, he's trying to move up to a career elsewhere) just a mile away... so I drove her over there and bought a large drink. Definitely got my money's worth out of THAT purchase, refilling it over and over again, until he was off work and I could follow him to our mechanic's lot and then he could drive me home. My kidneys may never be the same
No need to assume that things are VERY quiet and just a little tense here. But I WILL install an app or something on her phone so genuine emergency calls can override the silent ringer setting... that will not happen again.

Chief,
This is why I have Criticall installed on my phone and my wife's phone. Had something similar happen... Here is the link
Costs 99 cents, but it was the best 2 bucks I have ever spent. Saved our butts, plus got us emergency notifications, on more than a few occasions.

Thanks guys. That thing is a TANK. One of the biggest things on the road with 4 wheels LOL
Alright, you people almost have me convinced to put Win8 on my Win7 machine. All my stuff is backed up to an external hard drive JUST IN CASE. Hopefully I can still manage the $14.99 deal... but if not, forty bucks ain't bad for Windows 8 Pro.
So if any of you early adopters have found problems, compatibility issues, etc., now would be an EXCELLENT time to let me know about it

I feel left out of the Windows 8 discussion. I made the switch to Ubuntu about a year ago and have not looked back. I may be willing to consider Windows again once the old and new platforms are more well integrated and close to/completely merged. Good luck with Windows 8 Chief! I have nothing but that to offer

40 isn't bad for the upgrade only.

Thanks to AndroiDad, Criticall is now on the wife's phone. Well, the trial version seems to work very well... no doubt she (meaning ME) will end up buying it. Appreciate the tip

I'm in the same non-Windows 8 boat JMar. With an office full of Windows 7 machines (3 desktops and two laptops) I firmly believe in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Every time I have upgraded Windows OS in the past, I discovered that my Cisco VPN software was orphaned by Cisco and Microsoft, or some other critical software item was left out or incompatible. Guaranteed to happen again, so I am quietly and happily an observer for this one. I also don't see how Win 8 could help in an office environment. It seems so directed at media and personal users.
And Chief, I am very glad to hear that you are in one piece. %$#! can happen so quickly and have a dramatic impact. Happened to us with a drunk driver and things took a 180 for awhile. Counting our and your blessings.
I am inclined to agree about windows 8 being media driven. It feels like running a tablet/PC combo and the tablet part gives it that media feel. There is also an enterprise edition that is suppose to cater to the business aspect, but it's not distributed to the general public, nor do I know the enhancements it brings to the table.

You are most welcome. I have lived it so far. Hopefully it works well for you, like it has for us
Morning folks!

I agree that the tablet part is what give is the feel you speak of. I spend must of my time on the desk top side. As someone who does not use my laptop for media but for things related to running a business and the business of life, so far I have had no issues. All of my software has worked so far without any glitches. I am not using the live tiles and am also just using the local sign in. I am not a social media person nor do I want to sync across multiple pc's. Here is a link to the features in Enterprise Windows 8 Enterprise | Enterprise Software | Enterprise Edition

Anyone read this? Exclusive: Inside Android 4.2's powerful new security system | Computerworld Blogs
I have been running stock since my Nexie was replaced last month after the micro USB port fried. Naturally, I unlocked the boot loader and rooted as soon as I got the new Nexie. I am waiting for 4.2 build on sourcery to flash another custom Rom. i wanted to experience the Verizon OTA for awhile. Battery life has been better, but I miss the customization's. Anyone here anything about 4.2 builds availability?

JBSourcery 3.1 has, as part of the mods, the camera/gallery, keyboard, and (sucky) deskclock from 4.2. The camera and gallery are great, I haven't used the keyboard as I do not swipe stuff. The deskclock... oh heavens I hope Google fixes this thing soon.
EDIT: Wow, sideloaded app scanning! It's about TIME!

Well, plans have a habit of changing: Windows $14.99 promo didn't take my Win7 product key!
Now that I have the PRIVILEGE of shelling out the full $40, and in light of the fact that I have this wonderful deductible to pay on the wrecked van, I think I'm going to wait on Windows 8 until next month. I have a nice big check coming then, and I can swipe $40 out of that without the Darling Bride missing it
But if I tell her I just paid $40 for WINDOWS on the COMPUTER with all this other stuff going on? No, that's just not a scenario I want to think about...
EDIT: News flash for all you N7 owners: JBSourcery is in the process of being ported over
*WARNING* disregard my earlier statement about 70 dollars for a full copy. That best buy rep was full of it. I just finished installing windows 8 on my desktop and it wouldn't take the serial code. There is apparently two different packages for the upgrades. I just found with customer service in best buy for over 40 minutes because they weren't going to let me return it because it was opened. I eventually convinced them to let me exchange for the OEM edition that they don't carry in store and is actually hidden from their search menus! So if you want a full version, here is the link: Windows 8 Professional 64-Bit System Builder (OEM) - Windows
This is more normal priced at 140.

Wow. It's been a busy weekend for everyone.
Dread - sending you lots of luck on your resume writing and possible new job.
Chief - really grateful to hear you are ok. accidents suck no matter what but your well being is the most important thing.
Copacetic - that pic is gorgeous.
To all on the Windows 8 - I'm sitting this out as well. My laptop runs 7 just fine. If I were to have the Win8 tablet I'd be happy to try it out. Or even try it on the HP touch screen computer my part time boss has. But the laptop just doesn't seem like a good fit.

JHawk, I was under the impression that the $40 was the upgrade download, and the $70 was the upgrade disc. I understood that the full version was always $140 or so. Is that what you're saying you learned? Or are there two different versions of the full Win8 that we need to know about? Is it the OEM and the commercial release?

That's what I was under the impression as well. I went to best buy with the intention of buying the full copy but when I couldn't find it on the shelves, I asked a floor rep if they had any full version copies. He said yes and went into the back and ended up bringing out a box that was different than the ones on the floor, and didn't have the words upgrade written anywhere on it unlike the floor models. I re-asked the rep if this was the full version and he confirmed that it was. When it rang up as 70 dollars, I asked a third time if this was the full version to which he confirmed. When I got home, I opened it up to find two discs and a serial code. I thought I was good. I clean installed it this morning without a problem. When asked for the serial during installation, it took it without a problem. But when the install finished it asked me to register my serial. When I tried to do so, it failed saying it was for upgrade only.
So I went back to best buy and gave them hell for telling me incorrect information that led to me buying something that I did not want. They wouldn't let me flat out return it for a refund because it was open (which I understand due to piracy). After fighting for 40 minutes I came to the agreement that they would let me trade in my copy for an OEM full version copy of which is not even found on their website directly. If you try and search for the full version on their website, it doesn't even come up. You actually need the SKU or direct link in order to find it. So now I have that ordered and should be here by the end of the week so I can enter my serial.
The point I'm making is that the box they gave me was different from the ones you could pull off the shelf, but yet was still an upgrade. Shady business if you ask me.
Well I just spent the last 24 hours trying to fix a broken computer. Somehow Windows got corrupted. Thankfully I found a trick to get into my hard drive from the boot disk and backed up all our family pictures and music before having to format it to reinstall windows. Finally got it running now. Kind of proud of myself, I have never been a computer geek, just know enough to be dangerous.
Sorry to hear about your accident Chief, glad everyone is ok!
