Hmmm. Note II coming to Verizon... maybe by the time my contract is up next December the Note III or Nexus 5 will be out
Yes, the all new Note III with its 6 inch, 1080p screen. At what size does it cease to be a phone and become a tablet? But I think we can all pray for a Moto Nexus 5, the ultimate fantasy of many of us fandroids.
I think I may move away from Verizon too. Their plans are oppressive and hard to figure out, and I'm getting frustrated with the overall experience. They may have the best 4G coverage, but I'm in a city where pretty much every network has 4G coverage, and rarely travel to places that wouldn't have 4G. I don't think AT&T would be a much better choice in terms of customer service and bloated plans, but I've heard that Sprint's "truly unlimited" is a pretty decent choice, and I'd love to get my hands on the Nexus 4.
Razor, I'm with you. I don't think there's a carrier who doesn't have solid coverage in the DC metro area. And, honestly, I drop LTE in certain parts on Verizon.
Just tired of $200/month for two phones.
Wow dread, they really have you in a vice grip. Even though Rochester isn't the giant metro that DC or NYC is, we do have verizon & at&t lte, and t-mobile hspa+42. No sprint lte here and probably won't be for a while. T-Mobile does have unlimited data and a lot of people seem to average 8mbps on it, while even on verizon lte I only average 6. That 30 dollar t-mobile prepaid plan is just such a great deal.

If I have to utilize wifi at work or home that's fine. What I've seen from HSPA speeds that's fine for me. LTE has shown down considerably for me in the passed year.
Just scared about if I leave the area and need better coverage but that's why I'd go contract free.
Wow, everyone's jumping ship from JBSourcery to try the latest and greatest, huh? Is 4.2 worth it? I think Ginny and I will stick to JBSourcery until they release their 4.2 ROM
Got ready though: flashed TWRP 2.3.2.1 in preparation!
Yeah, I've jumped ship for at least the time being. Miss the great customization of Sourcery, but I love the speed and smoothness of Jelly Belly.
Perhaps we discussed this a while ago, but can someone fill me in on why we're using TWRP instead of ClockworkMod now? I've still got a fairly old version of CWM, but it's never messed up any flashing. Is this dangerous on my part? If I wanted to find TWRP, where would I get it? Thanks in advance
Razor, I don't know. I have TWRP on both my phone and N7 but I keep them up to date. Seems there was an issue with some version 6.x CWM's that were bricking phones and lately the multi profile thing tossed the recovery devs for a loop. Best I can say is upgrade to the latest and hope for the best.

The easiest way to get twrp is to download the goomanager beta app, give it root, hit the options, and hit install OpenRecoveryScript. We tend to like twrp because it has more features including a keyboard in recovery for naming nandroids.

Hey all, busy busy day. Grocery shopping, go to Lowes to pick up my order, grabbed a friends ladder, church, lunch at our favorite Mexican, then Christmas decorations, that took 4 hours . But to share the results:
I do. Even still, I could never break the 5 hour mark for screen time with sourcery on my gnex, but almost hit 6.5 hours with this one. That is a huge jump.
Thanks guys. So has ROM Manager fallen out of favor?
I don't even touch that app anymore.
Use TWRP on my Gnex and CWM on my N7 (kept having strange problems with TWRP). The interface of TWRP is leaps and bounds above CWM. Aside from being touch based there's a lot more you can do within recovery and it has a handy battery meter too.

Razor, I haven't used ROM Manager in over a year. Anything I can do with it, I can do in Recovery.
Yes, you can name the backups in TWRP. But also...
Imagine being able to "stack" zips to flash... for example, you could queue Superwipe, then your ROM, then Gapps, and then swipe to start and they all go one after the other automatically. Such is the joy of TWRP: you can stack up to 10 zips! You can also choose WHICH partitions to back up in a nandroid, and it generates an MD5 for each backed-up partition. So you could only restore /data out of a nandroid if you wanted to. Not to bust on Koush, he produces great work and is an Android legend: I just find TWRP to be superior to CWM in many respects.
I was wondering if CWM added that feature, but yeah it's great when you're simply flashing ROM+gapps. Plus it gives you that quick option of wiping Dalvik right after a flash before rebooting.
I too have been on TWRP for almost the entire duration of my GNex ownership and the entirety of the N7. ROM Manager just didn't play nice with the GNex for me.
Anti, the house looks great! Also, that's pretty astonishing battery life on a 2020mah battery.
Sitcoms? I don't think so.
There is Hulu Plus if you're a subscriber. Tons of other wacky channels as well. Some have commercials, some you have to pay for.
It's tempting. What I need is that android powered internet stick. I can't remember the name of it but after a Google search I think I found it and it still isn't available for purchase.

DL is reporting that Google & Dish are finalizing their wireless network plans! It will be data only, with voice & SMS going out over VOIP. Could be mid-2013,folks
I have an old school Logitech revue, and Google TV is OK, but nothing spectacular. There is almost zero development for apps, and it's limited with buggy honeycomb. There isn't even a compatible app for hulu+ for it.

Good morning all - happy Monday!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Black Friday and a nice relaxing weekend. Gonna post some Cyber Monday deals I find in here that we would enjoy.
QQ for everyone here. My boss got a 3G Nexus 7 and for the life of me we can't get the signal bars to go blue. They are just gray right now and we can't do anything on the tablet except on Wifi - anyone see a similar issue.

Droid Life?
Not seeing a link on their site. Do you have a source?
Great news about Google and Dish but I wonder if service is going limited? Sorta like great in cities and pretty non existent outside of that? Or like..I could go with Sprint here but when I go back home there's nothing.
Just reading about it now. Sure haven't. We generally just use what's on Netflix or Amazon to get our fix since we don't have cable. Not sure what this offers in addition.

I believe it pulls video from the internet. I want to know if it plays the latest episodes from the night before?
Crossing my fingers on:
a) No contract
b) Wide coverage
c) 3G speeds at min.
d) Competitive pricing (if Fiber is any indication, this should be fine)
If it works out, I'm all for it. Never used an VOiP apps. How is the voice quality (in general)?
The premium ones like Skype and Vonage are actually pretty decent from what I hear as long as you are on decent wifi or 4g, and satisfactory if on 3g. The middle ground ones like Talkatone or GrooveIP are good on wifi, satisfactory on 4g, but not that great on 3g. So it sounds like if Google uses good audio codecs like the premium companies, and has widespread hspa+21 or better, things should be just fine.
Personally I like the idea behind Google being the rebels taking on the Evil Empire of Verizon/AT&T. Since the government won't do much to limit their power, and the general consumer isn't informed enough to do so, Google is taking up the fight for us.
