Post #24,951... who will get Post 25k?

HanSolo: Great bal.. never mind, you already thought of that one a million times

I hear Win8 isn't bad once you add the Start menu back to it... still gun shy on it, though... But I just can't support Apple by buying their products, even used. Just a matter of principle. Glad you enjoy yours though

Congrats on 1K Treo! Many more to come, I'm sure!

Congrats Treo!
And great info Han...

I know for me, and our home life, we run windows server.. Right now I am running win server 2012, and WHS 2011..the rest of the machines have now gone either win7 or win8 and we have been happy with the results. Lots of testing on hardware and software... Always... I also host several websites off the machines here and am constantly fiddling with them.. Plus we share media, movies, music and programs all hosted on win server... Gotta stay windows for now.

I always like getting new hardware, so let the ordering begin!
Hope everyone is having a good week... And it's almost Friday! Woo Hoo!

Hey everyone - just popping in to say hi AND have a quick question.

What ROM is everyone running these days? I see there is a JB update to 12.1, but I know some of you were using Sourcery - are you still? If so, how are the features and how is the battery life for you guys? Recently my phone has been EATING battery like nobody's business.

Edit I found the below screen with 6 options

Open Titanium, Find the paper with the check box at top of screen, click it, scroll down to restore
My options are

Restore Missing apps with data
Restore all apps with data
Restore all system data
Restore missing apps + all system data
Restore newer version of user apps.

WHICH ONE DO I CHOOSE???
Little more information on backup please

I'm halfway through a Chief inspired updated to aokp MR1_build2.zip and I'm at the stage where I've downloaded Titanium Backup, and I'm trying to "restore AppS and APP data" per Chief's advice.

When I launch titanium click backup/restore, then hit the top 3 buttons on the upper right, I have about 15 options. Once has backup data from xlm... but I don't see any "backup APPs" anywhere

Cut and paste below is from old conversation with the Chief.

I want to pick the right options to see if this works or not. Always before I've manually configured which takes all day to load, accept, load mailstreet, type in passwords etc. then load the mail.

What do I need to click in titanium to restore the right data?

Thanks for smarter minds.

Cut and paste below

Use Titanium to backup and restore User Apps and Data. Do not do the System Apps.

• Make sure you're on the latest CWM CWMM installer.

• MAKE A NANDROID
• What to do:
1. reboot int recovery by powering down, then power back on holding vol up, vol down, and power at the same time. SELECT RECOVERY This will boot you into stock recovery.
2. using volume down, highlight 'apply sdcard:update.zip' and select by using the menu button (or where it would be).
3. you should now be in cwm recovery. Depending on which one you are using, the text will either be red or cyan in color. highlight 'backup/restore' using volume keys and select with POWER button.
4. select backup
The back up will start, and will take around 5-10 minutes to complete (depending on how much stuff you have in /data)
5. Once it is done, it will go back to the main cwm menu. Select 'reboot phone now' with power button.

• wipe data/factory reset in recovery- First- separate step, not built into the upgrade package

• flash ROM do not reboot. Choose it from WITHIN GOO MANAGER

• flash Gapps

• reboot

This is from the neweset Titanium update 11 7 2012 Well Cap'n, let a NAVY guy school you for a moment

Usual process is to flash the ROM & gapps and boot up to the home screen, then reboot recovery, flash the Titanium Backup app to the app drawer, boot up to the home screen, open TiBU and restore apps and app data. Then reboot again so the data "takes".

Now it's flash the ROM & gapps, boot up to the home screen, reboot recovery, and flash the apps and app data. Reboot system. DONE.

Cuts a significant chunk of time out of the middle, don't you think?

The program I downloaded was Wug’s. Galaxy nexus root toolkit v 1.3 on your hard drive of your computer.

JB Sourcery 4.4 (a 4.2.1 ROM so make SURE you have the very latest CWM or TWRP before you flash it!) is a phenomenal ROM. How they pack so much into this thing and still have stability and pretty good battery life is beyond
me.

I don't know what is happening to me. Maybe it's because I'm on my iPad all day for work related things, and I use a Mac at home and at work, but I'm really digging Apple lately. Android is very nice still, don't get me wrong; I love Android.

But Apple is so. . . . I don't know, clean. And shiny. And pretty.

I'm wanting to jump ship to a new rom, too. Right now I'm on the AOKP nightly build "aokp_toro_unofficial_DizzyThermal_Dec-26-12", whatever that is. I don't even remember when or where I got it. It's a 4.2.1 rom, and it's eating my battery like crazy. We're talking like 10% battery drop in 45 minutes. It's ridiculous.

Chief, does the Sourcery let you change the nav bar buttons, and does it have the ability to customize the toggles to include fast charge and wifi hotspot?

Oh, and good morning peeps!

PS: Chief, I'm on the download page for Sourcery 4.4, and I have the option between "maximus" or "minimus" Gapps. What's the difference between the 2?

I ended up choosing the 4th option. Took a few reboots, now touchdown is loading a million emails, as I keep them all on the phone.

each one of these OS updates takes my phone a day to process. I've been at it since 0900. Good thing I can let it whirl, while I work away on the computer.

Thanks for the reply.

Touchdown emails alone take a good 3-4 hours, since it pulls all the mail off my server, and duplicates it on the device. Same story for calendars, contacts, etc with that program.

Hello. Oh my, it's been so long, but I recognize many of your names! Grandma has a quick question. Upgrade time is coming and I may decide to move on from Nexus. It took me quite a while to master it, but with your help I have enjoyed it very much. So, what do you suggest next? I enjoy learning about the latest, newest, fastest a few months before it gets released, and then you all have been dears to assist me once I get it in hand. What are "we" anticipating for the next best thing? I've been here through the Dinc, and the Nexus......thank you. Grandmadroid.

Hello Gramma! Welcome back.

Rumor has it that Moto is coming out with the "X" - supposedly an almost-Nexus device. It would be Moto's first quasi-Nexus, and Google would have a lot to say about it since Google owns Moto now. Announcement should come in May.

I have the recent Moto RAZR Maxx HD, which I love. Battery lasts 2 days or more. Build and radio quality are superb.

You just know that the techies here will swamp you with suggestions, all of them good.

HTC M7...Motorola X phone...Samsung Galaxy S4...hmmm.

Really starting to think 2013 will be a good year for phones if these are all available on Verizon. I wouldn't give you a recommendation until these phones are announced and hands on time can be had though

Happy weekend all... Unpacked or rather moved a third of the boxes still unpacked in the garage, which were all holiday items, up to the attic today. Getting closer to parking the car in the garage! Woo hoo!
Now on our way downtown to see what IS downtown in Austin. Going to find a lunch spot, walk and see what we can see... And then maybe hit a movie, Hansel and Gretal I hope, at a theater that serves dinner and beer... A misty day, and a good day to get outta the house.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Oh and my new hard drives will be here Tuesday. A pair of Ocz max iops 120g SSDs and a pair of 2tb 10k, sata3, western digital drives. Toys, I tell ya.... Toys. Lol

Hard to believe that the Nexus has reached end of life. Well, our Nexi haven't! Still going strong, and guaranteed to still go strong some more... no thanks to Verizon and a ton of thanks to all the developers out there!

I hope Verizon gets the X and MAYBE Nexus 5... but after the Gnex fiasco, I have my doubts.

HI Grandmadroid!

EDIT: Had to share this one:

Hello watering hole friends. Sorry I have not been around, but we have been working long days to get a rental flipped and nights are spent working on taxes. Glad to see Hans and Steven joining us again. Welcome home guys! Quick question to those of you with nexus 7 and cracked screens ; did you have a screen protector on them? As to my Nexie rom, I am on Sourcery 4.4, it is going great. No lags and seems like better battery life.

Hi Copacetic and welcome back - we've kept a light on for you

On another note:

Unbelievable.

ONE Post in 15 hours? Are we all scared to hit 25K or something? Just because our beloved Nexi were called "obsolete" and "end-of-life" doesn't mean the Watering Hole is... must be a heckuva weekend for everyone!

Well, everyone but ME

EDIT: Interesting hidden feature!

No screen protector on mine Cop, though I don't think it would have made a difference. It landed pretty hard on an uneven surface.

I like the show Ancient Aliens. But if i did a drinking game where I took a shot every time they said 'ancient astronaut theorists' I would be trashed right now.

I like that guy. He had a Q&A tour last year that I would have liked to have gone to. Couldn't make it though. I think the guy that wrote Chariots of the Gods was with him?

OK, I'll contribute to the quest for 25,000 with a few of Treo's RSRSS Weird News Tid-Bits

Roman Catholic priest arrested on federal drug charges:

Man gets his last Whopper Jr. during his funeral procession:

And it's also kinda weird that BB has gone MIA as we approach the 25K milestone. Come to think of it, DSB has been very quiet. I wonder...

So... lessons learned! When driving naked, STAY IN THE CAR

And what's the point of eating tofu and organic everything if you can eat Whopper Juniors all the time and live to the ripe old age of 88? Besides, who wants to end up lying in a nursing home dying of nothing?

I like the sound of your diet!

Did some cleaning house today, of course with three kids, that lasts for about 6 hours.

Making crab legs with rice pilaf and broccoli for dinner tonight. One of my wife's favorites.

Yard work done. Shopping for weed eater and drywall anchors done. Shelves hung. Now on to Ny steaks on the bbq, pasta side and Caesar salad for dinner.
Happy Sunday everyone...

And where is BB when we are so close to 25k?

Another visit from the VP tonight. He's quite nice. Came in for a couple slices and some pasta with his granddaughters. SS was super chill this time. Didn't even notice them.
