I am officially in love with technology again.

This new laptop is the sheer bomb-diggity. I have so far used PCMover to move all my stuff and settings from the old laptop to this one; mirrored it to the TV with the WiDi adapter; linked my office PC to it; set all my passwords for system and websites into the fingerprint scanner so that a flick of the finger logs me in; and essentially used the thing in ways that the old laptop couldn't DREAM.

Waiting for Dragon Naturally Speaking 12 to show up on the UPS truck so I can install it. And then The Chief will be unstoppable!

Hey. I’ve had this eensy Optimus S for two years and it raised me well. But now I’m on the Sprint site and it says I can get Gnex fer nuthin! Well, nuthin but another two years.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t go to the store tomorrow and make this trade?

The Gnex is still a great phone, but I wouldn't get it today unless I was really strapped for cash.
Cnet actually just did a top 5 on free or super cheap phones and put the Gnex at #1.

If I were to get a gnex today, it would be used instead of renewing my contact. The phone is already more than a year old and by the time the contract ends, it would be 3 years old.

While it would be a huge upgrade over your Optimus S (is that still really Froyo) I wouldnt do it if you get some newer hardware for cheap.

It may be a year and a half old, but the Galaxy Nexus – if modified, as most of ours are – is up-to-date and perfectly capable of running today's applications. Granted, it may only have 1 GB RAM (half what modern high-end phones have), but I find it perfectly fine for absolutely everything I need it to do... from wifi analysis to banking and shopping to editing documents to managing my calendar to making phone calls.

Thanks to your and other’s comments. I have been advised to wait until something like the S4 coming out and causing the S3 to go (almost) free.

And yes, I’m still stuck at 2.2.2. It had a Gingerbread update that made it worse, so I went back and stayed there.

Wow, almost any new phone you get that has ICS+ will be like a whole new world. And yeah, the Chief is right, with the GNex (on Sprint) you would have any updates within a few days of the announcement in addition to easy access to a large menu of custom roms, themes, and hacks that will keep it fresh for a long time. Heck, I still have access to new stuff for my OG Droid because it was an open phone (no locked bootloader, etc).

Good luck Stigy! My company starts on Monday, goes through the next two weeks. Although they have so watered down the process, everyone gets the same amount. I can tell you right now what I'm getting without knowing my review score. No incentive to do more than the minimum amount to keep you from getting fired to be honest.

Hello all...

I am brand new to Android (having used both IOS and WP8) and to my Galaxy Nexus.

So far, so good....other than the (as advertised) battery life.

I am running Juice Defender and as few widgets as possible, but would love to hear (and utilize) and tips that you may have.

Many thanks.

At least get the extended battery. It doesn't add any thickness. And if you don't mind a thicker phone, get yourself the battery that does add a very noticeable thickness. Flashing different kernels can help, a little.

I only watched it because they were in Pennsylvania and I know people that were talking about it on facebook who know people that were on the show. I stupidly watched the first season when I still had tv. Towards the end of the season I started to realize how dumb it was.

I used to watch Whale Wars too. That was the show that started my disgust for television.

Halon - Thx.

I already got the ext battery that adds a lot of thickness......too much for (IMO) everyday use, but just found (on eBay) an ext battery that won't add too much thickness / weight to the phone. this one - Samsung Galaxy Nexus extended battery (GSM) - a photo tour | Android Central

That's pretty much the one I have. If there is that little tiny bump of an increase I don't even notice. I did notice the slight weight change and that made it feel much better.

Good to hear.

I haven't dabbled with rooting the phone (as of yet), but that's probably next on the 'to do' list, once I make some time to get up to speed on the process and consider the risks / benefits.

With wugs toolkit and the chiefs flashing tutorial it should be pretty easy. But I'm sure, like everyone else, doing it for the first time you're never sure if you're doing it right.

I read on a thread the this helps battery life....."went into developer options and set Max processes to 4".

Can you confirm or deny?

Also - battery is at 83%...approx 3 hrs 45 mins since last charge....Screen accounting for 68% of battery use, ajnd brighness is set for automatic brightness. Should I adjust screen / display settings?

Many thx

Iím sure thatís true, and thatís almost reason enough to go for it, but Iím holding out for a real 4G droid, at a 1G price. Also waiting for Sprint to put up the 4G towers here, then Iíll be in a real hurry.

Anyone else watching C-SPAN2? Not to debate the politics of it all, this isn't the place... but Rand Paul is in his 8th hour of a Senate filibuster! And he's not even tired!

Can you confirm or deny?

Also - battery is at 83%...approx 3 hrs 45 mins since last charge....Screen accounting for 68% of battery use, ajnd brighness is set for automatic brightness. Should I adjust screen / display settings?

Many thx
I've never heard of developer option thing you mentioned.

I keep mine on auto brightness. That is probably something you could play around with and see what works for you.

For rooting:

Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.3 | WugFresh

For flashing:

(can't find The Chiefs tutorial. Maybe someone else can link it for me?)

Developer options become available if you open Settings-->About phone/tablet, scroll down to Build number and tap on it 7 times. It will then appear just above About phone and allows for USB Debugging, which is necessary to use command line and to use a program like Wug Fresh.

I know what that is. I didn't know of the specific option mentioned by lwjzos. My fault for not wording it differently.

Morning all...

Btw that Set processes to 4? I have tried to be changing that setting but did not help me, probably because I always have about 10apps running at the same time. .. Its at the bottom of the Developer Options, and sets the max Background Processes Limit. Its kind of like a built in task killer.

Happy Thursday All!

Good morning and Happy Thursday!

Well, apparently the new 4.2.2 VZW radios are out and are way less than spectacular. Some folks are reporting WORSE reception. That looks like a flash I won't be doing.

And we have apparently survived the winter! After today it's high 50s and 60s for as far as the eye can see. And the ol' Chief is happy about it

EDIT: lwjzos, do you mean the Guide? Is that what you're looking for? Welcome to Android Forums, by the way

Funny - I am seeing better reception with the new 4.2.2 radios especially at my desk at work. I guess you need to try it for yourself to make a decision on them.

Good morning everyone - almost Friday!!

BTW ended up with a bonus and a raise yesterday so that made my day a bit better. All of it goes into the wedding fund anyway, so every little bit helps.

Yeah buddy, I tell ya: that thing's getting around! I have no idea what a scribd is or why they decided to publish my Guide, but I think I'll put a stop to it. I update it from time to time and you want the latest and greatest, trust me:

Congrats Stigy!!
Every little bit helps with that fund!!

And a +1 on the signal reception....at least it has increased the speeds I am seeing at my desk and around my house. I was getting 2 bars of 3g at home and now I am getting 1 bar of 4G. and a constant connection, thats the important part. Constant connection

BTW Still loving JDX...13.2 is out!

Not only did I report it, I had to post a Copyright notice and a stupid LEGAL DISCLAIMER at the end of the Guide prohibiting distribution! This was just supposed to be a helpful little instruction manual... but think about it: older posted material will become outdated, dangerous and might brick phones in the future. And that would make ME look bad!

No it is not. I have no idea who Mr. Brown is, but he re-published my Guide without permission

I have sent a copyright infringement notice to Scribd, hopefully that thing will be pulled FAST.

Gents:

A bit about me…

I am a 49 year old divorced / remarried father of two.

I am in the Army Reserves (I am a Combat Engineer) and returned from Afgh in Nov

I have recently been rehired at a Wall St firm

I have used Blackberry, IOS and Windows Phone…..very much wanted to try Android, and a Nexus phone seemed the way to go.

I am a bit of a tech geek…..translated, that means I know what I want to do, but occasionally f things up along the way.

I have used the Android Forums many times when searching for info, but registered now that I have taken the plunge.

Thx in advance for the help / advice.
