I would have been a 3rd generation Navy but they wanted to make me a nuclear engineer and shove my 6'2" frame in a submarine. Plus, I didn't like my father much so I refused to follow in his footsteps

haha my dad was a bubble head he said it was fun in that little tube with a bunch of guys (but who am i to judge)
I saw how the NAVY tried to teat my dad when he got close to retirement and that is what made me not follow in his footsteps

We surface Navy types could go on all day long telling Bubblehead jokes
But deep down inside I admire him... I don't think I could ride a boomer for 6 months at a time under the ice sheets
The Navy actually has treated me very well. I did 20 years and 6 months just to MAKE SURE that there was no doubt in anyone's mind that I had retirement benefits coming to me. So they actually took fairly good care of me going out.
Only heartache I had was that it was a high-pressure command and they expected ME to arrange my OWN retirement ceremony! I decided heck with it: let's have a luncheon in the boardroom, my Darling Bride will bring the cake, you guys give me my paperwork and we'll all it quits.
But considering the pay & benefits I get? I'd do it again 10 times over in a heartbeat. It was a great ride.
EDIT: JBSourcery 5.2 Exp is in IRC

Morning all... TGIF!
Got my new video card last night, still waiting for the water CPU cooler to get here.
Gonna give some games a try this weekend. See what it looks like!

And to add to the military talk.. I was offered Navy nuke school, and also could not figure out how my 6'4" frame would work...
Instead I took Army communications and did Y2K computer upgrades in the late 90s, combat zone after combat zone, deployed 4 times...until, on a stateside tour, and at a mountain warfare school, my belay dropped the safety rope, and I fell over 30ft into solid rock... Shattered my spine. Effectively ending my (34 Bravo) Army life permanently.
No hard feelings left, just doctors etc for the rest of my life. Thankful I can walk again, play with my kids, and that I am still around. I am happy that there are so many people that will never have to experience what I did, and that there will always be tech to support all of our troops!
Yikes man, that sounds terrifying! Glad you survived that!
Morning all! Happy Friday! So kind of happy, the county recently paved a dirt road along the absolute shortest route to work, so it is all paved roads now. Cuts an additional two miles off my route (41 miles vs. 43 miles). With as much as I drive, and as expensive as gas is, every little bit helps.

Ryan, I hope the VA is taking care of you!
That's their job... and if you haven't applied, don't fight them yourself! Find the nearest DAV chapter and get someone in your corner who knows how to fight them.
I recently was denied education benefits for my son by the VA even though I was entitled: the DAV took my notice of disagreement upstairs to the VA and slammed it down on the education desk, demanding an answer.
You know what? A reconsideration was MANDATED and the denial was reversed within 2 weeks! He starts school May 1st

Re: Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole
That's a great example of what they CAN do... It took about 5years for my stuff to get fixed, but now it's all pretty much settled. Permanently disabled and they do take care of a lot. Especially surgeries.. Can't tell you how much $ we have spent with doctors etc over the years, but they really are good. And I don't mind being a guinea pig when it comes to new styles of implants.. As long as I can walk and play with my kids... I am a happy camper. A long and arduous time. But they have taken care of me and my family, and will continue to do so. The only regrets I have are so much time lost with my family and kids... Being bed ridden is not conducive to a family life.

Key Lime Pie on my Galaxy Nexus!
It's true! The ol' Chief had the opportunity to test a part of Key Lime Pie on my Galaxy Nexus! Not the whole thing, mind you: just part. And I know that you folks are true skeptics, refusing to believe it unless you see a picture.
Well here it is... my beloved Ginny with Key Lime Pie! I decided to hide it:

Finally received my case for the N7 yesterday. They sent the wrong one though. There isn't that much of a difference between the one I ordered and the one they sent. Just below the camera, there shouldn't be any material there. It was a design change to make swiping down easier. The one I have it is difficult to do. The best chance of it working is to not have any apps or widgets at the top. I could easily just use a knife and remove the material. An email was sent and am waiting for a response. It came with a stylus also. I'm not sure that I'll use that?

Happy Friday everyone!
BTW: Am I having total brain flatulence or did something happen to Stigy's name?
And Halon: Nice case!
Going to flash 5.1 or 5.2 tonight then, thanks!
If you mean me no longer being green, then it was about a week ago I stepped down from staff as real life stuff took over. Have a wedding to plan for and have been SUPER busy at work.
I spoke to Eagle, the developer, and he told me to totally forget 5.2. That was after I had it up and running! The 5.1 release supercedes all exp builds. Actually, I knew that was the plan from before 5.2 exp.

Where is he most active? I know they have their own boards but I see him on Rootzwiki and XDA?

Your theory is compelling, Stigy, but the JBSourcery ROM zip includes a routine that wipes the /system partition before writing the actual ROM. Seems to me that any "bad" bits in there would be deleted anyway.
I guess we're about to find out, huh? If there are issues, I'll take your advice & nandroid back to 5.0 and then flash up

Or is the IRC channel the best to use?
irc is best

I'd rather flash from a working base rather than from something that could be corrupt.
no, dirty flash will get you needless trouble.

flashing to 5.1 full release is a flash up. flashing to 5.1 exp is a flash down. Confusing but true.

Just clean wipe and flash the 5.0 release.. that's the best way.

Too late, Steven. Dirty flashed 5.1 and everything seems to be smooth and in order. If son's Nexus hangs up, I'll do a full wipe... his seems to be the finicky one. Ginny just takes everything I throw at her
5.1 is stable.. I'm not surprised. Personally, I flashed the new radios over 5.1 release and got all terrible boot loops. I re flashed 5.1 over the messed up 5.1 and that fixed everthing.

What a throwback!
A look at Android 1.0, a brand new type of mobile operating system. Revolutionary in its day, it's primitive beyond words when put up against Android 4.2.2:

Anyone seen OTD lately? I think the last I have seen her around these parts, or anywhere really, was way back when she was transforming folk into vamps.
EDIT: Looks like she has been MIA since then and is no longer a Moderator. I hope everything is ok in IRL for her.
No one knows. She has not been in touch with us since October. Several staff reached out to her but haven't heard back, sadly. We hope, we pray for her.

Was just thinking about her too since someone bumped the Vampire thread.
So basically, starting this weekend is SXSW and lots of events are happening... Today I am going to a Google Playground, and Samsung has offices here, along with a lot of other tech stuff... But with Nexy I can't participate... Almost makes me what to buy the wife an SIII or a Note2.. Just so I can participate...
