Hey all, poking my head in - work's been super busy this week! Missing Monday set me behind quite a bit, unfortunately.

Totally worth it though, I was at a gorgeous wedding in Chicago for my cousin over the weekend. Lavish, and TONS of food, all delicious. We started with appetizers during the cocktail hour after the ceremony - mini crab cakes, lamb chops, and mini quesadillas. We then proceeded into the main hall for dinner - first course was a mixed greens salad with pears and goat cheese; main course was a steak, a salmon filet, and a diamond-shaped potato-and-cheese thing, somewhat similar to au gratin. Each table also had a big plate of chocolate covered toffee that was amazing. Then, later, when everyone was up and dancing, people came out with more food! Trays of french fries, mini grilled cheeses, milkshake shots, and cheesecake balls.

The best part was that they didn't have a wedding cake - they had cupcakes! There was a huge tower of cupcakes, tons of different kinds: red velvet, double chocolate, key lime pie, vanilla with sprinkles, etc etc. Everyone was so full! Had a great time though, and very happy for my cousin, of course.

On Sunday, the lady and I went around Chicago, did some of the touristy stuff - Navy Pier, Willis Tower, water taxi on the river, etc. Monday was hanging out with my parents before heading home. Great weekend overall Hope everyone else had a fun weekend as well.

Dang, don't think I like the way that that sounds...

Fwiw, I taught my wife to drive stick on my 350Z about 8 years ago. She (and I of course) still ONLY drives a manual transmission since.

... then again... I do feel a bit old school sometimes (like when I bust out the straight razor to shave).

I've never driven a stick shift in my life. And I have no desire to do so.

My 3rd car was/ is currently a stick

Bought it without knowing how to drive it. My step dad had to do the test drive and get it to a parking lot post purchase so I could learn.

Razor, sounds like a ton of fun. Wife and I (years ago when we weren't married) took a short trip to Chicago. I absolutely love that city. When she graduated college I crossed my fingers hoping we could move there but it didn't work out.
Hoping we can make another trip there at some point. Way, way too many good restaurants to visit.

I prefer Boston overall, but it's fun to go visit family in Chicago a couple times a year You're definitely right about the restaurants though, they have tons of great places to go! If you do go back, let me know - I'll give you some recommendations! There's a late-night avant-garde theater that I always tell people to check out, it's tons of fun.

Good morning all! Happy almost Friday!

Congrats jmar - good luck on the second interview now.

So I decided to keep my car for now even though I really want to drive stick. My dad put it into perspective for me such that I would basically be doubling my mileage (at least) just because I wanted to drive stick which in the end doesn't really make sense when I have a wedding in less than a year. So my plan is to slowly get the odds and ends all fixed up and maybe even start parting out aftermarket pieces I know I won't use or just bought on impulse and when the wedding is over then look at getting a second manual car for me and the lady to drive on weekends or trading my car for something that is manual. I love my car too much to start parting it out now just to drive stick - in due time it will all fall into place though.

I am still keeping my eyes peeled though in case I happen to stumble across the deal of a lifetime - so essentially the car is "always for sale" for the right price.

Good morning folks and happy Thursday / end of May!

So the Motorola X is REAL, and it's coming soon! I'm so stoked!

Parents are STILL here, due to leave Saturday, then I can get back to my pestery self in and around the forums. For a week or so... then it's off to Bonnaroo to see Paul McCartney and Bjork... and about 100 other acts and 90,000 new friends

Awesome! Congrats Chief! So many people out there drawing disability that shouldn't yet never really get questioned. Then an honest case like your wife's comes up and it takes fighting and clawing to get it. Glad to hear it finally got ruled in your favor!

Was just going to say that - that's a tough call although AT&T LTE seems to be just as fast (if not faster) where its available.

Chief,

I am so overwhelmingly happy for you and Mrs. Chief. Echoing what has been said, you deserved better and fought the good fight. It is stories like this which remind me about the good side of paying my taxes. Too often we focus on those who manipulate the system to live off of tax payers. Thank you for sharing something completely opposite of that. Now go celebrate!

Also, thanks for the encouragement from everyone in the WH, including my GS3 WH family. I just got a call from an Acura dealership this morning for a job interview. If I can land both jobs my Wife gets to quit work, which means we are going to start trying to make another little jmar, hopefully a jmarette. Been praying a lot on this as we have been moving toward this arrangement ever since I quit Starbucks. Anyway, send me your best juju...

Unfortunately I just wanted stuff - used numerous cards for anything and everything. I'm about half paid off, hoping to be able to finish it in less than 2 years.

You're getting all my juju for the jobs! And I think a jmarette would round off your family nicely.

Awesome jmar!! Hope and pray things work out for you with both of them!

It's going to be a tough call on the HTC One for me. By the time we are out of contract with Verizon, there'll probably be newer phones or rumors of newer phones I'll be drooling over. I can upgrade my line in August with Verizon but not out of contract till January I don't think.

It's official, so I'm eating crow.

Announcing the One Google Edition - interested?

Still want to know how they're going to do Boomsound and deal with the ImageSense stuff.

So.

Compared to the HTC One standard edition - it's a loser.

Loses the IR feature, loses Zoe, loses the Beats switch (and I don't know what exec they talked to, but Beats threads through the HTC kernel, not sure how they think it will just magically be always-on) and loses the FM radio.

Do. Not. Want.

Jmar: lots of juju sent your way - snag 'em!

And thanks for all the congrats, folks. This was a long, hard-fought battle that WE didn't win. It was won for us. With all the fraud, waste and abuse in the system ( like that woman in California who wants to be the fattest woman on earth so she ate herself onto disability ), it frosts me that so many people who actually NEED the money are denied it.

And no one should call Social Security Disability an "entitlement" or a "handout": it's an insurance payout and it's wrong to hand it to people just because they walk in with a cane, walk out, and go shoot hoops or play golf. Sadly, no one wants to address the fraud for fear of losing a vote... so the system just gets worse & worse & worse.

I would take the regular One on Verizon, and I kind of agree with EM on the Google Edition.

Chief, I'm so happy you were able to get that resolved in your favor! 5 years of back pay too? Sounds like time for a vacation!

The good news is, it makes aosp ports for those with the regular edition fairly simple. No need to rely on cm or some other dev team spending months porting it.

I'm sure that goes the other way as well. You could always flash a sense rom

And like the SGS4 GE - add the things that AOSP is missing and with those platforms to work with for blended-AOSP-OEM roms and that will be really something.

The One GE is the same hardware as the One Developer Edition, so yeah, flashing stock would be easy.

PS to Chief - nice!

Are you kidding??? In her plans she's already spent over 12 years and counting! She's going to HAVE to do what I asked her to do: make a list of NEEDS and WANTS and prioritize them. Then do the most important things. When the money runs out, that's it

Whoa whoa whoa, Halon! Last I read, Verizon is getting the 1060 model of the X phone! You read something different?

If you have, just be gentle and break it to me easy

I expect Verizon to muff it up somehow and the phone not be what it is building up to be.

Well, it looks like the GE One will still have Beats but it won't have HTC's camera software.
