Have a great day, Anti, and a happy Fathers Day to you!
Went on my first run in forever and it felt great. At least it's cool enough out now in the mornings for it not to be a complete sweat bath.

The s4 pro is what's in the Nexus 4 and it simply flies. If you had be "stuck" with it, it wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I'm still pretty content with the ancient OMAP in my Gnex so just about anything newer would be great.

Should be a pretty good weekend. My niece and nephew are staying tonight. Plans include going to watch the Superman movie tonight and then pizza somewhere afterwards. For fathers day we age going to a Pirate game. I thought it would be good for my nephew since his dad passed away. I try to do as much as I can with him. And my niece would rather go with me to the game instead of spending it with her dad. Anything I can do to piss that guy off is good day in my book. HAHA!

Just looked it up, and it appears that the Nexus 4 uses the APQ8064 version of the S4 pro which is the quad-core variant, rather than the MSM8960T dual-core variant that is rumored to come in the XFone. Should still be quite an improvement for the Gnex users though.

The updated replacement for the APQ-8064 is the Snapdragon 600, as found in the One and SGS4.

The updated 600 with on-board modems (programmable world modem, as found on the S4 processor) is the Snapdragon 800, releasing soon.

As stuff is still at the rumor stage, thought I'd mention that in case they came up.

Really? Man of Steel got a pretty bad review in the paper here. I'm still intrigued though.

This is the Superman we've been waiting for. Fantastic origin story. Hell, the whole story was good. This movie was good from beginning to end. The action scenes were just epic. I will be seeing this again on Monday in 3D.

Without seeing your hopes too high... it's the best (i.e. most well done from start to finish, action packed and enjoyable) movie I've seen this year (trust me, I see a LOT of movies).

Does anybody know if these gapps, will work on our Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Just saw them yesterday after rooting around aokp's website, for new nightly rom.

Rom is here AOKP.co: toro the 6/15 nightly,

The gapps I'm interested in are here on Goo.im
http://goo.im/devs/trevd/gapps/gapps-jb-20130615-signed.zip

I don't see anything about whether they are Verizon or Sprint or something else? If I check on Goo.IM from my phone, it has gapps dated back to 20121210, which seems pretty old.

Been a great Father's Day for me... a wonderful, heartfelt letter from the son and a mushy card from the Darling Bride. Made a call to Dad.

You're probably wondering why I'm posting during Bonnaroo. Easy: I had to LEAVE Friday night, just minutes before Paul McCartney took the stage. Why? I had to go to the Emergency Room! Blood tests, xrays and a CT scan later, the doc's best guess for my severe abdominal pain was...

FOOD POISONING!

I never saw a single concert.

But you know what? It's really okay. Really. I was surrounded by drugged-out, alcohol-fueled 23-year olds. 90,000 of them! We were packed in there so tightly that sardines would complain... and (of course) I was the weird old man to their young eyes and avoided like the plague.

But you know what? It was a learning experience that I will never again repeat. My big bed and hot shower at home* were a wonderful consolation to the loss of my deposit. It's nice to be home, and I'm improving slowly but surely as this garbage makes its way through my system in ways I need not detail here.

*-There were about 2000 people in Staff Lot B where I was camped, and 14 showers for everyone. I got up at 5:15 AM just to go shower while everyone was passed out and there was hot water. There were about 25 Port-O-Potties for us all, and they were disgustingly under-serviced. I've roughed it many times, folks, but Bonnaroo takes the prize. Never again.

Thanks Bread and Treo. I appreciate it. It was extremely hot & humid, and food preparation had no refrigeration involved that I could see. So it was made, stored, cooked, served and eaten in the summer heat. I should have known... but hey: it was a meal I'll NEVER forget!

Love this city!

Great seats and foul ball territory.

Beautiful park. It wasn't looking good for a game today but come 3pm the sun came out and turned into a great day.

Pirate Parrot entertaining the crowd

Grilled glazed donut, cheese, fried egg, maple bacon, burger infused with bacon and topped with black and gold jimmys(sprinkles). So good!

Last pitch of the game. We won!

Good weekend for my niece, nephew, and I.

Morning everyone! Had a great weekend. Celebrated birthdays and Father's Day with the family. Saw my Bulldogs take the opener of the College World Series in a game that probably saw my blood pressure reach levels definitely not good for my health, haha. A 5-4 win that ended with a 2 on, 2 out blast that fell dead at the wall in our right fielder's glove. Game 2 tonight against Indiana. A win tonight sets us up with an extra rest day and 1 win away from the championship series.

Sorry to hear about your sickness Chief! Hope you feel better!

Haswell seems very tempting. Haven't seen any, maybe a few, with W8. But, honestly, W8 is almost to the point where I'd move to OSX. W7 is great, why the "Metro"?

Alright, my WH brethren.

It's a sad day for me. I have been running Sourcery since it came out for my precious Nexus, but today is the day I have to move away from it.

The last 2 versions, which are supposed to be the final version, have been plagued with System UI crashes. When it crashes, I have no pulldown or nav buttons, and it will be basically useless for hours. If I get into an app, the only way to get out is to restart the whole phone. Then as I am about to lose it, it will mysteriously show back up - only taking upwards of 4 hours.

Clearing cache, dalvik cache, fixing permissions, etc... doesn't do anything. I try ROM Toolbox, since it has an option to restart System UI, but nothing.

I have re-downloaded, re-installed, checked MD5 Sums, etc... I have not used TiBU to reinstall anything (tough for me not to do), but it still does it. I just think the last 2 version are not agreeing with my phone, and unfortunately I don't have a nandroid of the last working version :-( Maybe I'll have to ask TDev if he has an older version that I can install.

So on to the help: I have to find a new ROM to go to, and I have no idea where to start. Does anyone have a 2nd favorite, or one that I can go to that is similar?

Dad, AOKP is what I've been running for a while now. The milestone is great, but I like the risk of the nightlies as well.
Give it a shot!
Paranoid Android is getting a lot of props lately as well but I haven't enjoyed it as much.

Another Tech Advice Request...

Anyone here using wireless TV, meaning your TV is not hard-wired to the cable or satellite box? The signal is transmitted wirelessly to the TV from something like the Iogear HDMI transmitter.

The Best Wireless HDMI Video Transmitter Is the IOGear Wireless HD Digital Kit (GW3DHDKIT) | The Wirecutter

The Iogear seems like the leader in this realm, so just wondering if anyone has used it or a competitor.

TIA.

It runs pretty smooth. Pie is okay, but I'm not a fan. AOKP just has more options to tweak things. What I'm mainly after is a super skinny nav bar and more tweaks with the notification bar which, is PA had that, I couldn't find it. I think PA is better suited to bigger devices and tablets due to its ability to change DPI wherever you want (and get back ICS like feel to the nav/notification bar for tablets). IBT really seems to like it; check out his thread in the root forum.

Morning folks!

Feeling almost back to what passes for normal, but I'm stuck on a tech problem here and can't think my way out of it. Hope you can help. Here goes:

Got my shiny new laptop. It has its eccentricities but works for the most part. Now all of a sudden, I hook up my Nexus and absolutely nothing happens. No prompt to open folder to view files, no way to access my phone's files on the laptop.

Thinking it might be the laptop (even though I haven't touched any drivers), I hooked up a USB thumb drive to the same port. DING! Open folder to view files. I can see and access stuff all day.

Is it my new ROM? I grabbed my son's Nexus, which hasn't been ROMmed in ages, and plugged it in. NOTHING!

So: USB thumb drive reads all day in laptop, neither Nexus even evokes a noise or a prompt to install drivers. USB Cable bad? Nope. Each phone charges while hooked up, and Fast Charge is turned OFF on the phones. I'm stuck for a solution here, and appreciate any help you folks can send my way.

Thanks

Have you tried a different Usb cable chief, to rule that out?

Anti, thank you for doing my thinking for me this morning. No, I had NOT changed out the USB cable, because my feeble mind thought "Hey: the phone's charging... cable must be good!"

I did, however, just swap the cable out and plugged in Ginny. DING! "Open folder to view files" pops up every time.

So: it's a PARTIAL cable failure, something that I can admit I have not seen in a long, long, time. And now we have the laptop back to its eccentric self. Thanks again!
