Sheesh, see what you mean!

Hmmmm. Yeah, a few of those just disappeared. They do allow for rougher comments there.

Most comments knocking the features just aren't so from other reports though.

Morning all! Hope everyone had a good weekend. I got NO sleep last night. Took forever to fall asleep because I stayed up late Friday and Saturday night and took a nap yesterday afternoon. After I finally fell asleep, 2 hours later I had to get up to pee....that never happens to me...does to the wife frequently now...but not me. After I finally fell asleep after that, I woke back up less than an hour later with a stuffy AND runny nose. Couldn't breathe so it took me forever to get back asleep again. Ugh. Red Bull is in order this morning.

Whats the point of grilling if you are going to make it a flat top?

If you watch that video ( and they're using my dream machine and next grill, the Weber Genesis S-330 ), then you'll see it's a flat top with all the benefits of a grill without the disadvantages: You still get the grill lines, everything sears in, but nothing flares up or falls through the grates.

I'll give it a shot and let you know how they work

The only problem I see with that grill mat is if you're cooking burgers or steaks (meat with higher fat content) where does the fat go as it cooks out? For veggies and lean meats I bet it works great though.

The One's fine. Still using rooted stock 4.2.2 at the moment (i.e. this morning's 4.2.2 update, rooted), which gets rid of silly 3-dot menu bars. Will probably start playing with ROMs properly in a few weeks, as things are kinda busy right now. Sense 5's a lot lighter than Sense 1 on the Desire was, so I'll probably give some ROMs based on that a go first, but will have to try AOSP from the Google Edition at some point to compare (maybe see how much space the MoDaCo dual-boot solution uses?).

Glad I had the sense to S-Off before the 4.2.2 update arrived, since it seems that patches the exploits that were used to obtain it. Don't you just love playing cat and mouse?

I gather Touchwiz didn't last long on your S3

Tried CleanROM and that lasted, um two minutes.
Gone through about 4 ROMs in the past week. Just loading up Beanstalk. Looks to be another new CM based ROM.

Afternoon all! In a Verizon store right now getting mom's phone upgraded. She decided on the DNA. I tried for the Note 2 or S4 but she likes, and knows, the HTC skin. I'll now be spending part of the day getting her pics and stuff off the old one and helping set up the new one.

No, though rumor pointed to it coming out the first of August.

Does anyone else see an interesting article headline and get excited to read it only to see the small print and/or multiple pages and just say heck with it then close the tab?

I'll resist all naughty comments that I thought of.
But I'm not due for an upgrade yet and I have no extra $$ to get anything right now so I'll have to live with phone envy for a while. What I really want (right now) is the Note or S4

Well, the Verizon getting the N5 is on some really obscure sites. One is a blog site from some guy who gins up great headlines for rumors so he can draw web traffic. However, I have nothing concrete about it

I'm not counting on it, Google seems really pressed to stay only GSM for now. They haven't released a single CDMA device in over a year now. You're best bet for a Nexus on Verizon is if the refresh of the Nexus 7 supports Verizon LTE without a CDMA radio.

Sure Jhawk, just take all the wind out of my sails, will ya? What a PAL!

This is the year I upgrade phones* and I'm running low on options:

Moto X
Optimus G2 (IF Verizon carries it)
Ultra Maxx
HTC One

With the Nexus 5 shot, I am really hoping for the G2. REALLY hoping for it.

*- When I say "upgrade" it's an in-house term, as I will have to pay full retail for whatever device I end up getting in order to keep unlimited data on Verizon. So it's not a Verizon upgrade

Yeah, I wish that that Verizon would cave to Google's relatively minor (imo) conditions. Verizon is just too stubborn for it it's own good sometimes, and it's to the detriment of their customers. It's partially what drove me away, along with the high prices. The G2 does look like an interesting device, that's for sure. However I expect a locked tight bootloader like most LG's have had recently. Although if there's enough demand for it, Dan Rosenberg might port his Loki exploit to it, just like he did 4 other LG devices.

We'll see how airtight Android 4.3 is to root exploits. If I can't unlock the bootloader and root the thing, I don't want it. I don't care WHAT it is.

On another note:

Leap Motion Controllers for PC start shipping this WEEK with an expected arrival of next Monday!

The only thing I don't like about the G2 is the buttons on the back.

Did anyone see the story about Verizon offering a competitor to T-Mobile Jump?

I saw it, but knowing Verizon, it will probably end up being a rip off money wise. The whole reason they moved upgrades from 20 to 24 months was to increase profit margins, giving more upgrades seems counter intuitive to this unless it's it benefits them somehow.

So you have to pay off 50% of current phone to get another but there is no wording on if you are still paying on that one plus next one or if the payment for the current one stops. Until they clarify it, it seems debatable at the moment. I personally can't see them having people pay for two phones at once. But this Verizon we are talking about.

Now AT&T is joining the upgrade party.

When does the party start for lower prices for plans?

Just like I thought Verizon's would be, this is an absolute rip off. You're essentially paying for the phone twice with the first payment the usual baked into the service, and now this second one being tacked on top of it. Not to mention you can only upgrade once per year instead of twice per year.
