I think it's an AT&T thing. Won't let me push it from online play store or download from device.

Yay! Google wallet is now installed. Had to side load it.

The Verizon version of the GNex isn't on that list and it still worked. But I have a feeling you're right. They have it blocked.

If you are rooted on Verizon it will work.

OK, help please

I sideloaded it and it installed fine on my unrooted RAZR MAXX HD. I enabled NFC. I'm on VZW. Are you saying that if I go to 7-11, it won't work? Evil Big Red will block it?

It installs fine on any phone, 2.3 or higher. It may not be available in the play store for every device, but it should side load with no issue.

The question about 7-11 is more tricky. Launch the app. Does it say anywhere "tap to pay" with a CC pictured? If not, then it may not work to pay.

The app not showing up in the play store is Verizon's doing. But not allowing the device to pay is all Google. Can't blame big red for that.

Google Wallet that doesn't let me pay for things via NFC does what exactly then? I'm going to try it on the way home tonight and see what happens.

Supposedly it will let you send money to people via gmail, like the web based version does.

AhHA! You're right - there's no option to "tap to pay." At least not here at home. Wonder if it shows up when in range of an NFC reader? Curious to know your experience.

Without this, I personally see no use for Wallet. The only joy would be the convenience of paying and freaking out the cashier or other customers

Any gas pumps nearby that have it? Try it outside at the pump instead of going into the store.

I'm in Canada at the moment, so doubt anything would work here. Which is why I'm watching nj02vette to see if he meets with success. Would love it for when I'm in the States and can use it at the fast food places and drug stores where I've seen terminals.

Someone should prep the official complaint suit for the FCC for Verizon violating Block C regulations.

Well just as I feared, it doesn't work. Sucks.

On XDA they are looking into it and have some theories. But the short of it is you need a secure element module in the phone. That's in addition to NFC. And the Wallet app must recognize and support the phone.

Yeah, but I can already send money via Paypal.

Just don't like having functionality that works great rendered inoperable due to company bickering.

That would be interesting. I also keep seeing commercials for Sprint's new promotion, "unlimited data for life." Or has it already been exposed as having lots of fine print?

Morning all! I'm in the same boat, wallet installed fine, but no tap to pay. Oh well.

Interesting news that Verizon wants to certify the Nexus 7 LTE. If it takes a matter of days, I won't bat an eye, adding a device to an activation system is an acceptable reason for a short delay IMO. If it takes a month or longer, I hope the FCC calls foul loudly and severely. They need to show early on that violation of Block C regs will not be accepted.

Good morning!

Is anyone else having a devil of a time copying TWRP backup files to a Win 7 PC?

I drag & drop, and only a quick fraction of the contents move over. I can't even manually drag each missing element: like system and data, the important ones.

Open to any advice here...

If anyone has any hopes of getting the Nexus 5 on Verizon, I suggest you consider buying the G2. It's on its way to turning into, for all intents and purposes, what the N5 will be, Verizon style.

Really not sure how I feel about that.

On one hand, it legitimizes the custom ROM community, and will hopefully lead to further AOSP options from manufacturers.

On the other hand, it'll be interesting to see how they navigate the legal waters with relicensing all of the code they've gotten from the community & whether or not they'll be able to incorporate gapps.

Not really a fan of them making money off of contributions from the community.

I've never used their ROM but apparently it is really good. I say more power to them IF they can do better like they say.

Nice to see the Verizon violating FCC story making it outside of tech sites. But just like senators and congressmen nothing will happen to them.

Apparently Pressy sends signals into the phone that are interpreted by the Pressy app and cause a pre-programmed (by you) event to occur. I see no reason why opening the camera app or snapping a pic wouldn't be such an event...

The good thing about Cyanogen is they provide their ROM for a broad variety of devices. Very comprehensive, whereas others are pretty device specific. Other than that, I've really never been THAT impressed with them.

DOH!

Verizon, Caught Red-Handed | Jeff Jarvis

I hope the FCC gets heavily involved in THIS one...
But if you bring a SIM from a tablet or phone and pop it in an N7 it works perfectly.

The Verge was the same with their review.
Kellen from DL loves it though (along with Tim).

YEOWWWWW! What a spanking!

That ringtone... no, I would not want to wake up with the Vienna Boys Choir either. Talented little kids, contracted to make talent-less little ringtones.

A great example of what I would NOT want ringing in public:

While I'm waiting on NJ02vette and HanSolo to counterpoint this article with their real life experiences with their G2s, I watched the reveal and decided in my gut that this phone - as sold - could not possibly be for me.

19 days to go (or less) until my Note 3 arrives!

LOL

Hopefully the fanbois in line, desperate for those hot new ringtones, will behave until a generator can be trucked in

After you hate it along with some of the other new iOS 7 users, you can turn around and downgrade it.

Seriously - who does that?
