Merry Christmas everyone! I've been so busy I haven't been able to check in here but hopefully after tomorrows festivities I will. I want to go through the steps to modify my soft keys.

Google Talk Video version opens the camera during boot and its sensor gets fired up and since the camera isn't closed the sensor just stays there open in the background wasting battery like there was no tomorrow. Opening and closing the Camera after booting up closes the sensor and then the GN enters in Sleep mode just fine (easy to check with Cpu Spy).

I don't have a screenshot for you but on almost 7hrs on this cycle I have just 1.5hrs of wake time. Usually, before said fix/workaround, it would be at 50% of stated battery life time. Thank you for your useful post.

how many hours of screen time? because that should be subtracted from the awake time, no? (the time it is supposed to be awake because screen is on)

Awesome glad it helps! I too have seen a marked improvement on sleep time and battery life. Knowing if this is the true cause of the phone not sleeping properly could be huge and a easy fix imo for the googs to fix with an update. I know I'll be opening and closing my camera each morning after a fresh charge!

Video taken with Nexus of Lights on the Lake with one of the best friends I'll ever have. The language and music, especially the music, won't be liked by most...if not all. The language isn't all that bad. Some f-bombs, no big deal to me. Basically just us acting stupid . It can be viewed in 720p, I forgot to switch it to 1080p. What I call the "love tunnel" and the trees near the end are my favorite part of this light display.

PS. Hello everyone! Merry Christmas. Just for kicks, I decided to see how quickly I could run down my battery if I really tried - playing a game and surfing the web simultaneously nonstop got to 4% in about 5 hours. Not bad, I guess; I could kill my OG Droid in a couple hours as well. Anyone else tried this?
I just did this yesterday. Ended up having to charge it for about an hour, but it took me just shy of 10hrs of multiple games, phandroid app, web and videos to kill it, charged for an hour on a wall plug and got 62% battery to finish my night off. So that means to me....about half as good as my OG. Oh and I was on wifi for 99% of that time. If I had been out at work or somewhere with only 4g, it would have been dead long before that. Stock battery on stock 4.0.2
Oh and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!!!!

Just tried wifi tether for the first time. Blazing fast, but gets quite hot. Got it up to 115 degrees.

But I used it to sync a bunch of new music to Google Music. My 4G signal cut the time by more than half (GM is SO slow on wifi!!)!!

that is the original developer's account, and i have been using those apks for months, so no need to worry about them. i know many people are weary of 3rd party market downloads.

edited to add: i cannot confirm that these work on the GNex, as i haven't tried them yet. they all ran fine on my thunderbolt and are still in use on my Nook Color and g-Tablet.
Downloaded the Gameboid emulator and the BIOS from here, transferred some ROMs from my computer; everything worked perfectly! My girlfriend's brother, also a gamer, was pretty impressed and immediately starting looking for an emulator for his piddly little iPhone, haha.

Happy Holidays everyone! I finally had a chance to unbox and activate my Galaxy Nexus last night. After the festivites today, I had a chance to edit a little video my wife took of me during the unboxing. Sorry that it's a little choppy in places... it's the best I could do to sync it up with the music. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas my friends. Been a little too busy to spend much time here this week, but now I'm off on a 12 day trip to Asia. At least I got to spend Christmas Eve and morning at home. We even watched MI yesterday. (I may have to watch it again in imax)

So although I'll miss my bio family, I'll have more time for my forum family and my Gnex. (time to try some Roms!)

Yeah, figured it was clich but I couldn't resist.

Nexus questions....

1. When dialing the phone, I'm used to being able to spell out names with the keypad on my Droid X. For example, if I wanted to dial my wife's name (Jen) I'd start dialing '536' and it would pull up everything that matches that in my contacts. Does ICS not do this?

2. Can I get an Airplane shortcut on the main screen without a 3rd party app? I noticed Airplane mode isn't part of the Power Bar.

Thank you!

I don't know about #1. Airplane mode can be accessed by pressing the power button.

Yup, I saw that after posting, thank you. I'd still like a shortcut but the power button is easy enough. Just have to get used to it is all. It may be the same way with the phone dialing. I've always found that quicker rather than digging through contacts but I guess that's what speed dials and Favorites are for.

Thank you!
I use Dialer One for question 1. Not only does typing the name bring up their phone numbers, it offers up to 99 speed dials.

Another thing I like about Dialer One is you can start typing any part of the name. For all the Johns in your contact list you can start typing the last name to save time.

Here's another question:

Anyone using Google Music? I thought I'd give it a try to see if I like it enough to dump my iPod Touch. I played one song while testing it out, and now there's what looks like two small vertical bars that are partially filled with blue next to it. What does that mean? The online help was, well, no help.

Call me old fashioned, but I still like the sound of a camera shutter when I take a picture. Anyone know how I can add that to my rooted GNex?

I know! It was very difficult to be almost wholly involved in family conversation. I love them but distractions are good.

Hey all

Thought I would share a photo and a quick story if you don't mind

It has been nearly 3 months since I picked up my main camera, a 5DmkII. I have been using my g12, taking it with me to work and such getting a few photos here and there but have not been posting them. I would get some fantastic sunsets but often have a major street to shoot over and either a lot of clutter (like houses and tree tops) or boring flat photos of massive sky with little else (im big on clouds) So, I would get some shots, get home and look at them and just close the window and forget I took them.

So, getting out has been hard due to work and the short days so, photography has been on the back burner for a while. Well, I ended up getting my mom a point and shoot camera, a decent one, last years model, a powershot S95 so she can start out taking photos in auto and work her way up to full manual. She is totaly lost right now but luckly the camera takes some good photos in full auto.

I decided we better test the camera out so I waited to nearly sunset, and got her to get her new toy and we could try to shoot the sunset. Figured it would be a treat for both of us to have a photoshoot together. I was right. It was fun. At first she thought the sunset was going to be bland, but I told her the best part was AFTER the sun goes down. Sure enough, a short time later, the color gets really good, she is off in the yard doing her own thing.

Mean while I am trying to make the best of being crammed in my non-photogenic yard. I am trying new things, leaning up against the fence and so on. It had been so long since I used my camera I forgot to format the memory card and only had about 40 shots before I ran out of card space. And I was bracketing exposures. So, double As the color started to peak, my card filled up. Oops.

But I got this:

Dark Light AKA: Christmas Sunset by slitherjef, on Flickr

It was great fun to have some one to shoot with and my mom to boot! I was going to get her an SLR which she could use my full assortment of lenses but the best camera is the one you have with you. Now, I got to set her computer up and perhaps a flickr

BTW, the image above is one I shot. Still need to get the ones off her camera. I just felt like sharing a bit of a story and a photo. Hope no one minded

Well, I enjoyed it! Nice shot! From the G12?

I bought an S95 instead of a G12 this time. The size and quality sold me. Different glass, but same sensor and mostly the same control level. With the front and rear control rings, the S95 will walk and talk.

Please show the S95 photos when you can! Tell your mom to hang in there! It's more fun when you know a little more than point and shoot!

Actually from the 5DmkII.

I ended up getting a hoodman hoodeye for my 5DmkII as one of my gifts, along with a couple books on quantum mechanics and snowflakes

Merry Christmas All!

And just an FYI for all that own the TPU case with the volume issues, I contacted Diztronic and they stated they have revised the case to address the issue and are shipping me a replacement for free. And in case this is a repost I apologize.

Also, just finished unlocking and rooting my precious!!! Super easy due to Scary Aliens awesome guide and all the advice on here, so thanks to all and with that good night.

Thanks for sharing. I really like my TPU case EXCEPT for the volume issues. I'll see if they will send me a replacement also.

I picked up my mom an S95 for her birthday as well -- I want to pick one up. That camera takes amazing pictures.

Still love the GNex camera though.

I just sent an inquiry as to whether they plan on fixing the issue and that if they do then I'd love to recommend the product but can't if they dont plan on it. (I figure it's nicer to let them tell me they've fixed it)
