great tip about the TPU case. I'm gonna try that..I cut mine but I didn't want too.

Nice shot of that sunset.

Tomorrow I am going to Disney Epcot (depending on the Wife's health) and I have DSLR and was thinking of leaving it home this time and trying the nexus with both 1080p video and still shots... I really want to give this thing a shot and see what it can do

My battery life markedly increased the last 2 days due to Franco's discovery (kernel dev for the GN & I'm not sure if it was solely him) about the camera and Google talk. The sleep time states are the improvement here and they're fairly substantial. I'll post up a battery life screenie soon hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas!

Merry Christmas, kids! Just finished up a nice day with the family and made several calls to friends on my Nexus. Assumed I was just having a hot flash until I realized that it was only my EAR that was flaming on. My goodness this phone gets hot. Is this an easy fix or do I need to return?

I haven't had this. It only gets slightly warm when talking on phone for longer than 5-10min or while nav is running for a 15-20 min ride.

Merry Christmas to you as well and how hot is hot?

Hot enough that I can't hold it on my ear. And the warmer it gets the more sluggish it gets.

Something seems wrong imo. It should not get that hot.

With the free app "circle battery widget" you can see the temp. Once installed and placed on your screen click it and go to "battery"

About the heat issue, it does get hot after wifi tethering. It's usually around 108 degrees, but when I was tethering yesterday it went up to 115 easily. (If you're rooted, wifi tether will give you a temp reading as well).

I didn't notice any sluggishness though, but I stopped tethering sooner rather than later.

When watching a movie on Netflix, though, I didn't notice that it got as hot as when I was tethering. Netflix, I assume, downloads at a rather brisk rate, so I'm sure it was going through its paces.

If it's getting super hot after only a phone call or web browsing, I'd take it to the store and compare it with the store model before actually exchanging it.

Default Ringer Controller Recommendations please

I am currently trying Timeriffic, it's not working for me.

I want an app so at night I can shut off text, sms notifications, but the phone still rings.

The ability to have selective texts come in, daughter, son, etc. is a bonus.

Also, on a secondary volume issue, my phone must be the only one with fabulous volume, so I make a call at the end of the day, and turn the volume down about halfway on the rocker switch.

Unfortunately, I don't remember to crank it back up, so any further incoming barely makes a peep, because it's cranked down.

Where do I adjust that setting to turn the phone volume down a bit, but not the entire sound profile?

Thanks in advance.

I use Bedside from the market. It turns my phone into a nice clock and turns off phone/texts notifications except my contacts like BabyBlues that I "whitelist." Do you know who you need to take phone calls from or must your phone ring for any number at night?

Volume Control + or Quick Settings will give you control over your individual volume settings.

Default night calls

I wish I did.

I'm an insurance adjuster, so I can get calls from all over for floods, fires, insert disaster here. Usually it's truck wrecks, fuel spills, fatalities, etc.

I don't get that many night calls, so about the only ones I'd turn off are those annoying "sign up now for Googles business search directory".

For some reason Timeriffic went to silent mode every night and I just couldn't get it set up right.

Daughters heading to Munich at 1100.

Maybe she'll be on a cohort's flight. Lufthansa I believe.

Thanks.

Hmm, I haven't had any issues with my phone getting hot while making calls. It's gotten a little warm while streaming video or other processor-heavy activities, but that's about it.

Mine got a bit warm during a lengthy phone call yesterday but nothing abnormal. And I've been downloading and surfing on it like crazy and so far, so good. I've got a couple of minor issues but they are probably just new procedures I have to get used to.

The one thing strange to me is that the US holidays don't show up on the Calendar widget, even thought they are set to do so. Not a big deal, just strange/different. Also, I have two reminders daily (meds and set the coffee pot ) that I put on the Nexus but what's different is that when the reminder goes off, it doesn't display the reminder name. Thought that was strange.

I was a huge fan of Timeriffic on my Droid X and I thought I remember reading it works on ICS save for a few minor bugs. I would have it turn off everything but phone calls at night. I've heard that Bedside (like Capt. Ron mentioned) is also very popular. Speaking of, the bedside clock built into ICS is awesome. Can't wait to get the multimedia/bedside dock and I think I'll finally trash my old alarm clock and make room on my nightstand.

A few .3 roms have this fixed. I can't remember which (well I guess the ones with a 4.0.3 calender apk), but some .3 roms have the older .2 calender apk.

I just confused myself, either way a fix is coming I believe. That is what I wanted to say

Good deal. I did some searching on code.google.com and I found someone had already reported the alarm/reminder label issue so I starred/commented on it. It seems that the label will display when the alarm fires if the phone is on and awake but not if it's sleeping. I didn't find anyone else complaining of the Calendar issue so I created a new one. Neither one of those are deal-breakers by any means, but wanted to report them nonetheless.

Really enjoying the Galaxy Nexus despite the minor issues I've enountered thus far. It's really fast and I haven't had any program compatibility issues - even got Flash installed and working.

Yeah. It lets you put your password in and then they can scan it to connect to your network without giving out your info

Unfortunately I was not able to get the f out today so I'm not able to test out the pictures on the nexus. My wife isn't feeling good :-(

^ that was with the voice to text on the stock keyboard.. I left it because the f was funnier... it was supposed to be "I was not able to get out to Epcot" lol

Hey peeps!

I think I finally found my screen layout that I'll be sticking with for a while. Green keys, live matrix wallpaper, and no lag!

No, but I'm waiting for the extended battery and the multimedia dock to be released. If the regular battery proves to be enough power, I might just go with one of them.

Default TV audio on nexus

Is there an application that acts like Pandora, except for TV over the air-OTA-the audio side only?

I used to have a small sony radio that would capture ota tv audio, and let you listen to the news, while you walked the dog.

This was pre-digital, 2 years ago.

I'm wondering if there is an app that allows me to stream the tv audio side, to the Nexus?

It would work like Pandora does for radio, except allow me to tune to my local station, and listen to the news or whatever they were playing, maybe the hockey scores, etc.

So I took off Phandroid, words with friends and hanging with friends and then charged my phone. One of them is definitely the culprit of battery eating. I will add them back but at least I know if I need to conserve battery those are the first to go.

Default Did I get the shaft?

So I got my first bill, after changing to the Nexus. My old plan had an unlimited data $15.00/month charge for Mobile Broadband Connect. What I used to use to connect my computer and tether it.

I was under the assumption that would carry over to the new phone and provide a mobile hotspot, since my old phone didn't have that feature.

They dropped the mobile broadband charge off the bill, and now want me to sign up for $30 bucks for 4G smartphone hotspot.

Big red claims it's because the mobile broadband connect wasn't compatible with 4g phones, so they dropped the plan.

What grates me is I looked the sales lady in the eye and said "NOTHING" is going to change on my plan, right" and she replied yes.

I'm not sure if it's worth arguing, but once again, Big red looked me in the ey, and calmly told me I was the most handsome man on the planet, please sign here.

His best offer was $10 bucks off, if I sign up to the $30 bucks.

Also said you can turn it on and turn it off as needed, so no long term committments.

Did I lose anything or not worth the bother? Worth a beef, or shut up and sign up for the $30 bucks if I want a hotspot?

That really blows... they really screwed you on that one.

Yup, totally agreed here. I have no desire to pay $30 more a month to Verizon, and you (adjuster11) shouldn't be forced to do so either.

Words with Friends chewed through the battery on my Android Tablet (Asus Transformer TF101) very quickly. I still use it but make sure to close it when I'm done.

So I finally got the perfect setup. I wanted the stock app and widget drawer, with no gray line above the dock, customizable dock icons, and a way to hide the notification bar.

I got tired of waiting for a dev to do it and finally just tweaked the latest Nova Launcher (beta 5), which is really stable so far, using an apk editing tool. I also signed it so that it won't automatically update on me and ruin all my tweaks.

I'm so very happy! Yet somehow perturbed because now I have nothing to tweak.

Congrats! Glad you got it the way you want it! But don't despair... I'm sure there will be something else to tweak at some point. 'Tis the beauty of an open-source OS.

Here's the original Nexus boot animation, in 720p, if anyone is interested. Just download it and place it in /system/media using root explorer.

Nice find. Any way to see what it looks like without uploading it to the phone?

EDIT: Never mind, found it on YouTube:

Actually I've placed it both in the /system/media and /data/local, but it's not showing up, just a black screen. Not sure why.

Does anyone know if Netflix HD app is working on 4.0.3 yet? I'm dying to try Franco's kernel (latest build is supposed to increase quality of whites, somehow), but it's only compatible with 4.0.3.

nope... not yet :-( I just bit the bullet and put on AOKP w/fransisco kernel and took out the SD card binary that caused GTA to not work...

The whites are so clear and the all around improvement in colors is amazing.. he did a great job.

How did you get it to work? What system folder did you put it in?

So a kernel can really affect the screen that much? Whites and colors? Wow. I might have to give it a shot, despite the non-Netflix support.

Does it do anything with the banding on the screen, or is that a hardware issue? (I do notice it sometimes.)

Nexus questions....

1. When dialing the phone, I'm used to being able to spell out names with the keypad on my Droid X. For example, if I wanted to dial my wife's name (Jen) I'd start dialing '536' and it would pull up everything that matches that in my contacts. Does ICS not do this?

2. Can I get an Airplane shortcut on the main screen without a 3rd party app? I noticed Airplane mode isn't part of the Power Bar.

Thank you!
1. You can search for contacts on your phone using the google search bar on the home screen. I don't think the native ICS dialer has the functionality you're talking about.

2. You can create Settings Shortcuts in the widget section of the app drawer. It would open the settings though, not act as a switch/button.

1&2 I'm sure you can find apps that accomplish both of these satisfactorily. For #2 I'd suggest Beautiful Widgets or Elixir.

------
Hope everyone had a happy holiday.

It's a flashable .zip....did you flash it, or just put the Galaxy-Nexus-One-S-bootanimation.zip into the /system/media folder?

I extracted just the bootanimation.zip from the /data folder (within Galaxy-Nexus-One-S-bootanimation.zip itself) then moved it to the Nexus and placed it in /data/local and it works just fine (looks pretty darn good by the way).

Hey y'all. Been here and there and haven't done any Modding yet. My computer still needs to be wiped and set up properly before I connect and mod. Looking to mod using Linux. In any case I just wanted to check in and say hi!
