Default Android Telephony: Placing conference calls

Hi all, I am novice to the Android framework. Although I have created a few Android apps before but none of them are related to the telephony APIs. For the very first time I am trying to create an app to initiate a conference call programatically. However I could not find anything relevant online or on the android dev site for that matter. Can someone pour some light on it or point me in the right direction here?

Many android devices have conference calling built in.

If that doesn't deter you, try asking in the developer sections here

sorry to be asking question here or would appreciate it greatly if I can be directed to the proper section...I just wanted to know if there is apps out there that alert you when you are being put on conference call without you being notified?
