Oh they are! We have root and recovery already. They are working on custom kernels now, and hopefully getting close. Thankfully, while locked, this phone is NOT a Motorola. There is hope.

I just picked up my Blue GS3 from AT&T at full price. I'm leaving it stock.

FYI, I added my SIII to my Samsung account. After I had entered my MEID for verification it showed a build date of June 26, 2012 under the MEID. So it went from a stack of parts to my hands in 10 days. Kinda like buying a warm loaf of bread.

I couldn't leave my new phone stock. I rooted it. My Captivate got downgraded from CM9 to Gingerbread because it's now my backup phone.

Is that your first retired device? If so, that's cool. I had three retired, but have given rwo away. My OG Droid is still plugging away on light duty as my alarm clock. I have given away another OG Droid and just this weekend a D2.

I do have 2 Nexus 7's coming to keep the balance though.

Wow, this has got to piss Samsung off:

Verizon Support Blames Samsung for Bootloader Lock – Workaround Potentially Found, Bounty Placed – Droid Life

How stupid do you think we are Verizon? Yours is the ONLY GS3 in the world that has an encrypted bootloader, and yet you pass off the blame to Samsung?!

Lmfao!

Very fitting.

I guess one of the questions is, do you love since? Being that if you dont you can just replace your launcher.

If you can afford to get an S3, I'd vote for 'go for it'

The real question is, does an S3 have enough pro's to make it worth it. I came from an old galaxy portal, so it was a huge jump in phone capability for me and very much worth it.

As long as you have a phone (any brand) that does what you need it too, that's all that matters. Nuff said.

The more I use my One V (3 months on at this point), the more I like it. It is a fantastic device for the price. And I really like Sense 4 better than vanilla ICS. (That says a lot!)

Can I afford and S3? Well, yes. Do I need it? There is no way that I need an S3, but I'm a gadget freak. Would I use it? Absolutely.

So the Wildfire S is out for sale and if it goes before the weekend, my wife inherits the One V and I pick up an S3. It helps that I can pick an S3 up here in Cambodia for about $50 less than in the States. Whatever I make on the WFS would be a bonus. We'll see what happens

Well, I was not anticipating this, but so far I am NOT LOVING my SGS III. I am wondering if any of you fellow Verizonites would be willing to help me test this out:

When connected to the aux in (very common on cars and stereos nowadays, you know, so you can listen to music off your phones and iPods and MP3 players, etc.) I now have the SAME incredibly aggravating problem I could never resolve with my Fascinate. As usual, I have my bluetooth connected to take the call. When I answer the call, I hear NOTHING over my bluetooth unless I disconnect the audio cable out of the headphone jack!!! This is a huge safety hazard, as it takes your hands and eyes off the road, requiring you to disconnect a cable every time you get a call!!

I called Verizon and complained about this with my Fascinate to no avail. I never had this issue with my Droid X, HTC Eris, or my Galaxy Nexus, another dual core Snapdragon based Verizon LTE phone made by Samsung.

Not to mention the SGS III is laggier and less responsive than my Nexus, although not as bad once you disable S Voice (S is for stupid, by the way ... I can't get it to work worth a darn!! Maybe I'm stupid, but I've certainly given it a chance.)

This is horrible because the screen is incredible, and the battery life far outpaces every other smartphone I've ever had by a ridiculous margin, so PLEASE, fellow Verizon SGSIII friends, help me out if you can!! I don't want to have to return this phone, but reasons to do so are stacking up.

If there's no fix for the audio cable thing, that is a definite deal breaker, and enough to make the phone "defective" in my opinion. That is such a blatant safety hazard. I do NOT want a "Fascinate 2".

Similar issues have been covered, one is here http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/576056-can-not-use-bluetooth-when-audio-jack-plugged.html?highlight=bluetooth

I would highly reccomend you try to update all apps & firmware, either FOTA or via Kies to fix your lagging. You can also adjust animations or turn them off completely in the settings > dev menu. You can also go into Settings > Applications > All tab, and disable any apps you know you dont need (not ALL apps can be disabled)

Good (wo)man! Just try to remember that the S3 does not have a drunk mode, s-voice sux at slurrred language, and its not capable of translating incohereant drunken slurs to taxi drivers other than that, rock on! oh and try to find a sober moment so you can truely enjoy your spanking new S3.

Thinking of picking up the S3 and taking it for a spin and letting my daughter have (use) my Nexus while I do. I have to say...the locked boot loader makes it a bit less attractive, but I'm not a diehard rooter, so I may be able to live with it. Anybody who has used both phones have any opinions on making the switch?

2 things to start....

I can't move my apps to the sd card ? It says there is no external storage, however, all my pics etc are visible ??? huh???

Also, all my fb pics that link to my contacts are blurry. I paid and downloaded haxsync and it still doesn't help...

What the heck is Kies ? and do I need it?/ where do I find it?

Oh, 1 last thing... (lol) Where is google wallet? I can't find it either???

That should start me out (and Cranberry and vodka on me if you can help )

I believe the S3 is like my GNex where the SD card is virtual so I don't think you gain anything. I have over 125 apps installed (many are large games) and have no issues with storage. I started with an OG Droid so I know what you are thinking, but I don't think it is a major issue anymore.

Facebook pics linked to contacts being blurry is an issue I have as well. There are workarounds, I'll check the GNex forums and see if I can link you to a solution. It just wasn't a big deal for me.

Kies is some sort of Samsung device maintenance thing and from my understanding is more trouble than its worth. I have not needed it yet. Hopefully someone with a better understanding of it will chime in.

There are ways but my understanding is it is a placebo effect to moving things to the SD Card. I know someone real smart that did a write up about it (and maybe I misunderstood him) so I'll go find a link.

Also, here you go for the FB contact photos.

Sorry, I couldn't find the lengthy and informative discussion I was thinking of regarding apps to sd, but this thread summarizes it pretty well.

How do I move apps to SD card?

No wallet yet on the VZW GS3... Only the officially supported sprint version has it... Give it some time, and I am sure someone will get it on the VZW version.

1. Sell the Wildfire S

2. Count my pennies while watching the price on eBay, Amazon & Newegg.

3. Visit the friendly phone shop in Phnom Penh Monday.

For the clock, try going to settings > Dev options > "window animation scale & Transition scale" turning them off.

For messge counters being stuck, delete the message icon and replace it, or do a phone reset/firmware update

Btw still half cut

If your wondering why the 16gb isnt really 16gb, I suspect Samsung have partitioned the 16gb into 3 drives;

1gb/2gb for ram (yea ok i know the US version has 2gb)
2.5gb/1.5 for OS (android)
11.35 for user storage.

You also do get the prompt when you open things like the radio, gallery, camera etc to save data to the phone or SD card by default, so just choose the SD card and leave the phone RAM free for the apps you need

nother beer for me me thinx

I'm sure if that was the case, they wouldn't have bothered with the 16gb version, after all, this isn't apple we are talking about

2. Count my pennies while watching the price on eBay, Amazon & Newegg. Looks like I can get a great deal on a brand new GT-I9300 here! And I've sold a laptop beside the WFS. Half the cost is covered!

Yeah, in Cambodia if your order coffee to go it comes in a bag like in my avatar. It's just a cool thing. I'll be back in the US for three months starting Wednesday this week. It's going to be weird getting Starbucks in a plastic cup and paying $4 for it. I quite like ultra-strong, slightly sweet Vietnamese ice coffee in a bag off the side of the road for $.50
