I was browsing "the world-wide-web (Coming Soon To Alpha Centori Sector-8!)", and came across this pic! I faintly remember something like these...they were little black licorice-type gumdrops!
Anybody remember these and are they still around?
Got any products you'd like to know if its still in circulation or want to share a fun memory from "Dusty Days"? Post it. Would be interesting to what's still around!
That's a great site, I remember most of the stuff!
ROFL Clementine! This is the FIRST time Ive ever thought about that controvercial name! And "Chocolate Babies!...whew! Somebody hepp-me! Havent caught my breath from laughing so hard! Makes me wanna say to the company: "Hey! Why its gotta be a 'black' thang".
Wow thanks for the link! I am going to visit the site as soon as I post thks reply!

Some of my favorites are still with us. Wax bottles filled with liquid, barley pops, candy dots and my favorite gums: Beeman's, Black Jack, Clove and Teaberry, to name a few.
I remember a gum flavored with violets. From England. My granny gave it to me. Still available.
That's the great think about the Internet. Nothing seems to have gone away. I think some items went away only because local stores stopped carrying the product. The web lets the manufacturer sell to a wider audience.
Some products I forgot about have been in continuous production since the beginning and I just thought they were gone forever.
If you want Crows, they are available from many different places on the web in addition to the site I gave above. Along with things you remember but forgot about until you see them again.
These days, I am into soda pop. I just ordered a variety of odd balls you will never see on the grocery stores. There are hundreds of types and brands and I am excited to try them all.

I still do not think the name is in any way controversial. They are Black. That is their color. And Crows are black. that is their color. So Black Crows is a good name for the product.
If anything, the maker should be criticized for redundancy.
If they were coconut flavored , Devil shaped and white in color, what would they call them? White Devils perhaps?
As for Chocolate Babies. Hmm... let us see. They are chocolate and they are shaped like babies. What shall we call them. Cocca Brats? No, there must be a name that sums up their advanced feature set. They are chocolate and shaped like babies. Gosh this is a tough call.
I got it, we will call them "Mocha Lasses." Now available in coconut flavors. We call then "White Coccanut Supremacists."
Thank God we no longer use the term many people once applied to Brazil Nuts. If you want to get offended, Google that.

Because of this thread, I have a hankering for some wax lips. They are still available, I should think.
LOL Bob Max and Clementine! You guys! Speaking of Mocha-babies I tried my BEST to see if I knew what you two were talking about and the ONLY candy that llI could think of were the yellow bag of SUGAR BABIES! MMMMM-MMM!
So, finally I clicked the link and was totally wrong! But its funny! I remember biting into a candy like this but NEVER knew what they were! One look at the pic and the FLAVOR came back to me!
I never knew them by their actual or controvercial name reference. To be honest I never knew the shape was a baby! All I remember was, as Woody Harrellson said in Zombieland "Its Not The Taste, Its The Consistency", I always got "chillbumps" or freese-bumps when I bit into this type" of candy!
Candy like these made me literally cold on the hottest summer day! KORN, Candy Pumpkins, there were some "easter" candies made of this "consistency" now Ive learned to be "mellocream?"

They look like little mummies to me. Something Howard Carter found in Egypt.
And consistency is important in food. I love turkey legs because of the consistency. Completely different than white meat.

Speaking of WAX LIPS! Remember the ones with TEETH? I am literallly "tasting" the flavors and smell the "sweetness" while browsing these sites! Hey post pics of YOUR favs!
I cant remember at which point we would break down and chew the HECK out of those wax lips till the flavor was gone! What D I D we ever do with the "by-product"? Swallowed it?

I remember . . . it was when the wax was soft so it did not shatter into a billion little grains. We spit it out, always.
When I used to go to my Grandfather's movie theater I never asked for Chocolate Babies. Ummm. Nope, I did not. I asked for a bag of...well...yeah.
LOL, Clementine! I guess it was just a point in time, and yet, fond memories.. Days when parents, grandfolk and many others were young amd still with us! Days when we had no worries, bills or responsibilities.
Really? That is one candy that I has always been locally available. I buy the crystals on little swizzle sticks.
Incidentally, there is a brand of whiskey called 'Rock and Rye' that is made by dissolving rock candy in Rye. A waste of good Rye Whiskey if you ask me. Good whiskey must never be defiled with candy.

There was a woman in my home town who came up with these candy sticks, kind of looked like stalactites. She handed them out at Halloween in mason jars and they were so popular Russel Stover bought the recipe but I haven't seen it anywhere since the mid 70's.

I think the term you're looking for is Negro Children....they once used to ask for a box of *N* babies!

Wow your family sold the actual recipe and candy.to RUSSEL STOVER! VERY impreses AND honored.
How come everyone else remember the contro-terms for these! ROFL!
Well, it's what they were called. For real. Bad as it was, that's what they were.
You obviously missed out on the whole "wow, did we really do that" era! And the era before that was, I'm sure, much less subtle. lol
Better than cough drops. Love horehound. And Horlicks Malted Milk Tablets. Remember those?
You actually LIKE those? MAN! I liked the first few seconds of the taste of horehound sticks (with that dusty powdery substance)....but man o man when the REAL taste kicked in! I thought I did something BAD!
Speakinh of "horehond" and being bad, I feel horrible for how we used to treat these twin sisters back in high skool! Yep we used to yell in the halls "run! Here comes the hore - hounds!"
I hope they arent members on a f! No one would remember that except those involved....and I do feel bad. We three became friends before the sr year....but they STILL LOOKED LIKE....
When it came to medicine - the lousier the taste, the better the medicine was for you.
Cod Liver Oil anyone? If it tasted good, it didn't work.
Like, gag me totally with a greezy-spewn! You are right! The nastier the tsste, the better it worked! And codliver oil, thats some NASTY stuff. But I think castor oil, I mean a huge SOOP SPOON worth gotcha best...

Here's the one I miss -
These little bites of chocolatey heaven were the SO freakin' good. If you've never tried them, trust me - you're missing out. When I was a kid, almost every convenience store had a plastic tub of these at the check-out counter. They do still make 'em, but they are really hard to find. I've had to resort to ordering them online a couple of times.

ABSOLUTELY! Horehound drops are great.
Google "salt Liquorice and order some of that. It is salted black Liquorice and it takes getting use to. There is, actually, a world of different types of Liquorice out there. Including a carbonated beverage (or once was, someone Google, quick) that was flavored like chocolate Liquorice.
Very nice stuff indeed.

Hey look what I got via Fed Ex yesterday! Used to eat this brand as a kid. Found a co. that bought them out years ago amd sent free cans after contacting them
Oh man! Lol! Now THAT for sure is a piece of nostalgicana! (rofl)...and I had to log on because we had the honor of royalty presence! King Stinky Stinkcefas is here! Hey STINKY!
I did have a bubblegum comment but I think I can blend it in wirh the Stinky-Stinkster post (which is true ...they dont "make" it like they used to...lol:
Oh, my bubblebgum post: remember when it seemed that bubblebgum went cheap on us? Regarding "consistency", remember those flat bubble gumn"sheets" that sort of crumble as u bite down? Felt stale?
What happened to the white dog poop? Never see that anymore lol.
They don't use ash in the food anymore as a filler.
Some of the meat that goes into dog / cat food is a higher grade than goes into some cheap brands of pies and sausages.....trust me I used to work in an abattoir.
