Default MS will crush opponents

Microsoft Will Crush Google, Apple in Mobile

Where do these people get these ideas? First thing that comes to my mind is that MS phones will be the ones to get virii, keyloggers and whatever else.

Especially if they can access the computer and other devices like Apple does.

Android can get the same - but Android simply cannot access my Ubuntu desktop on its own.

That guy is a moron. He has issues with Google Play, so he thinks that Microsoft will win? That is a leap of logic that Evel Knievel couldn't make.

I understand that Windows Phone and Windows RT are pretty well locked-down. Can only install approved and curated apps via the MS app store, just like Apple's iOS. They're certainly not like desktop Windows. And those OSs are very much in a minority at the moment, and probably for the foreseeable future.

If anything, it'll be Android that gets the keyloggers, spyware, malware, etc, It's already happened in China. Because it's usually open and is currently the most popular mobile OS. If you just install apps from Google Play, or other known good/safe sources, should be OK.

That wasn't what I meant. If you have one program on computer, you can access from phone. MS was touting that last year. Play has had malicious apps get in, so has Apple. All it takes is one gullible or greedy person.

MS will probably use some form of NFC - so phone to phone would spread rather easily.

I do nothing that requires a password except email on the phone. No banking, purchasing, etc. I do that on the Ubuntu desktop which Android cannot access.

We used to pirate some stuff on PDAs through infrared.

That guy can't be serious. I've had windows phones in the past, and played with the current incarnation of the windows mobile OS. IMHO, both of them were clumsy, slow and all around just crappy. With software like that, there is no possible way they will "crush" the competition, as that writer said in his article.

I love how he called android phones "shoddy" i thought that was pretty rich.

If Windows continues to stick with Nokia i dont know if it can get much better...the HTC Windows phones i have heard aren't that bad though.

I wrote a piece on Microsoft at Uni about their strategies and how they dominate markets. They've done the unthinkable in the gaming industry by massively eating in Sony's dominant market share and the mobile phone industry means even more to them.

Microsoft need the information we are sharing whilst on our phones to make Bing an extremely powerful and integral part of people's lives. We share different information on phones than on desktops, and this is the future on consumerism. We search differently, and have different reactions to the information we receive whilst on our phones.

Google currently trump the market, but Microsoft will do everything in their power to increase their slice of the pie.

I want an easy to use hosts file on Android. Like using Online Armor FW on Windows.

Bing, Groupon, and now MSN are blacklisted.

So if Apple digs a few iMoats, they'll be able to stave off MS domination? How about an iTrebuchet? Wouldn't that make them even less susceptible?

MS persistence? I predict that the NY Mets (or the Chicago Cubs, you pick)will use this very same persistence to dominate MLB, because there's no moat around Yankee Stadium. That's my prediction and I know this because I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Trebuchet is an Android Launcher isn't it? - The NYM HAVE won some WS. I have the 1986 WS DVD set. Chicago still suffers the curse of the Billy Goat. Yankees will win with $. If they can unload ARod and Texiera, and Jeter manages to rehab. One of Rupert Murdoch's outfits is buying into YES, the Yankee channel.

So far we've proven that Zuben knows baseball, and Microsoft knows jack lol.

As far as "moats" are concerned, I'd think iTunes is a pretty big one.

I just don't like MS, Apple, Google, FB, FX chasing everyone and trying to get us all to commit to one system just for the almighty $.

High end cameras do that as it is. If you start with Canon, it's cheaper to stay with Canon than to switch to Nikon. Check the prices on full frame and fast lenses. The same in reverse.

I like the fact that I can have a device made by anyone right now and get them to work (mostly) together. If companies decide a lockdown on services will make bigger bucks, then that will go by the boards.

If they want all this info, and they are getting big bucks for selling it, then our phones and services should be far more subsidized then they are. We are paying higher rates for advertising for stuff that is mostly junk, but a hit since it's new.

Facebook makes cash from cyber-stalking adverts - Could give Google a run for its money | TechEye

FX is putting in (allowing) an extension for MSN. They say it's up to the user, but for how long?

I also don't like the push against anonimity. I've got too many nom-de-plumes all over and I don't want to integrate them.

I have started to see some columns in financial starting to warn about Apple starting a fall, MS and Google getting some type of comeuppance. Last year, year before, everyone was drooling over the same companies. All this won't happen tomorrow, but it can. The more negative articles, the more the prognostications are likely.

IBM now operates mostly as an Indian company. Remember them as a mainstay here?

Not far from the truth. This thread is about market share and who will end up with the largest slice of the phone market pie.

But it has ALWAYS been this way. You only notice it more because are paying more attention. History is filled with companies that want you to do business with them because they are better than the other people you are thinking of doing business with.

Nothing new at all. the Almighty dollar is why we have what we have. Remove the profit incentives and there will be very little to choose from.

Embrace the dollar because it is mighty important.

And you should commit to one system. There must be one you think is better than all the rest. For me, it is Android and so I am comitted to Android. Not saying you cannot change your mind, mind you.

How do you know? No offense, but you suggest the writer is a fool, but, I question some of your assumptions, like "MS phones will be the ones to get virii, keyloggers and whatever else."

Apple is locked down so you can only install crap from iTunes/Apple. You can install software on your Android phone from other places because it is not locked down as tightly as Apple/iOS.

I have not read much about MS phones and problems, and I am not sure about MS and how one installs software. Isn't the thing locked and software must come from their market? Bob is not sure so he asks questions.

I tried searching to see and the first article I found was about how your MS phone calls Microsoft every time you install a program. Not sure if that is true or not true. Perhaps it is true in so far as MS detects changes via WiFi or some such. Not sure the phone phones MS.

I avoid the web or most of it because any idiot can write articles and post them. To answer your question: these idiots get their ideas from other idiots on the web. Some web sites buy copy from copy mills and vendors churning out 500 word articles for less than a dollar per article. So WTF do you expect to read? Well researched pieces or crap? Pick crap and you win.

My rate is now 1.25-2.75 per word.

These self-styled experts are to be ignored. We will know who wins when we see sales figures. Perhaps Blackberry will win or two guys in a garage. Apple migh fail or open its OS to others and we see fewer Android phones and more iOS devices.

All I know is I want to see Apple offer an iPhone running Android. That would be epic because it would drive the haters nut-bar crazy.

I do not like the OS because I find it a tad homely. I actually tried one of the themes that make your Android phone look like the Windows phone. Something about those little tiles that bothered me.

That said, plenty of people say how crappy the iPhone is and I seem to recall reading somewhere that Apple manages to sell a few phones every week.

Like i said, only time and sales figures will tell. I can't wait to read the annual reports and dig into the numbers.

I am still amazed that the iPhone alone . . . JUST the iPhone outsells everything Microsoft sells, from operating systems to Office packages to dev tools.

One thing I do know is this: we should be thankful for the deep fried turkey and the wealth of technology available today. You can get a pretty good Android phone at the local grocery store.

@ Bob Maxey

I am on the fence on 'lockdown' OS.

While I enjoy the freedom of Android/Linux, I can also respect that for 'non techies'/average users that Apple/M$/Google Play controlling content can lead to very increased security.

I have rescued many a friends' computer from viruses and I can see phones/tablets going in the same direction.

Since I use technology for my own ends and means - which seem to be very different from most people - I resent being told what I must do, what I must use, and how I must use it.

I'd always do a NL in Adobe Illustrator before I'd even think of using MS Word or Publisher. (I argued my boss into Illustrator - it handles PDF editing) Word has been crap since DOS in my book. It was only usable after I found the Annoyances site. I used Novell's WP and will keep WP9 until computer can't run it.

Apple has had incidents with tracking and your info built in. There was a big outcry about that last year. So if you are into your own privacy, check each OS out. MS and Google do the same. It all depends on who gets outraged and makes enough noise about it. Find the one you can live with.

Some things don't depend on security. PCs used to come stuffed with OEM crap to get you to buy the programs. These are not a security issue, but pains. The poor PC would be so bogged down, it wouldn't run. In other words, PC bloat.

The malware makers try to stay one step ahead. As long as people are greedy and gullible, they will succeed. Trying to save a few will eventually annoy more than it's worth. We'd all get Net Nanny. How many posts are on this site from people who tried to get the latest game or app free? There are stickies about it.

Even people who know better can be pains. It took me quite a while to convince the Vulcan he needed a firewall. He seemed to be convinced that it would slow down his browsing. He's an engineer! He's been caught by MP3 codecs in the form of the malware scams. He will ask about the AV or malware since I deal with it.

Right now Windows security is annoying me. I won't use MS stuff, I've bought from other companies. So security center complains. It turns itself on a couple of times a year for some reason. I have it checked not to notify me. I check on the stuff I do use daily.
