Yea, but our brilliant lawmakers would then come up with a "driving while blinking" law, to protect us.

Can you imagine this, like we don't already have enough issues with texting and driving. I think they need to develop an app that disables all text and email while drive

I heard of the development of this technology from Dr. Michio Kaku, he is a theoretical physicist and a brilliant one at that.

Idk about the model they are showing in that demonstration, I think they have quite a way to go before we could really do something like that.. sure they can put pictures wirelessly to your contact... but how are you supposed to focus on it when its that close to your eye? The average focal distance for a person with 20/20 vision is about 2-6 inches. Also the second problem I see with this model is it is not transparent enough. I believe they will figure it out eventually though.

And the soon you will be able to surf the internet and watch tv while looking like you are paying attention to someone. Something I wouldn't mind see but I do see the problems that would arise with it.

God the possibilities, this is awesome, but seriously like others have said, there would need to be some way of disabling it while driving..

I mean, I love the possibilities that could arise from this, but I also see the difficulties as well. Too many people can't seem to live without talking/texting all ready. I did an informal survey one day, where I was about for a couple hours, and I counted the number of people who were talking & texting while driving. In 2 hours, I counted almost 300. Compare that to my population, which is only 11,000. I saw even one guy with no hands on the wheel on a busy interstate that runs through my city (one hand with the phone, the other resting out the window). I can just imagine how this would be with the display on contacts. And even if they found a way to disable the while driving, someone will find a way around it, and make it public.

As someone who wears contacts, I can say that this would quickly become expensive. You would have to replace the lens periodically. Plus it's frustrating to learn how to get the things in. Not everyone can wear them due to astigmatisms (depending on how bad it is and if the lens is made for those with astigmatisms) and eye-moisture level. You have to be able to produce enough tears to keep the lens moist enough to not cause eye irritation. And, let me tell you, those headaches from a dry-ish contact lens sucks...

I'll keep my smartphone screens.

One of the big mobile carriers offers an app for teens that does just that. When the car has been detected to move above a certain MPH, there's no texting (there may be other things it shuts off, too). For the life of me I cannot remember what carrier it is though.
