I think it will be a dark day for me and others like me. I'll go so far as to say tit will be our darkest day in the last 12 months.
OTOH if you're in the southern hemisphere, things will be much brighter...

Well, I'm not sure. It's going to be a day, I know that much. It'll be interesting, though.
Solar flares? Maybe. End of the world? Maybe. Nothing else? Maybe.
Time will tell.

The sun will rise in the east and set in the west. Only one man knows when our final day is left.

By the end of the day the "experts" will announce a mistake was made in interpreting the Mayan calendar and push off armaggedon to a later date.

Well for one thing I have my annual performance review.. lol i've been thinking about telling him I might not be in due to the world ending, but I don't think he has that kind of sense of humor.
But I know its just going to be another day. If you ask living Myans today they will even tell you that no catastrophic event ,that ends with killing nearly everyone in the world, is going to happen

Is this the last day of the Mayan calendar? D'OH! All it meant to me was the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.

Well, 12/21/12 is National Crossword Puzzle day; Humbug Day; Phileas Fogg Win a Wager day; Yalda and let's not forget National Underdog Day.
I'll celebrate after I figure out what Yalda is, exactly.
There will be single malt, fine ciars and I have been told, lots of pies.

Yalda is Iranian Hanukkah. (see photo below) They have a 5-day Menorah, and the text with the picture says "Pomegranate, Watermelon and Trail mix are consumed on Yalda".
Trail mix ?!?!?

It is going to just be a normal day.
For the people that think the world is going to end because that is when they ancient Mayan calendar ends, what did they expect? The Mayans to just keep writing the calendar until when 2030, 3015, 2156.... They had to stop sometime.

It wasn't an astrological event, but a numerical one.

I know I know, but that makes me wonder. I’m sure it’s just something I don’t know, but how did people mark the days in B.C. times? Backwards? Must have been pretty exciting in 001 B.C., with no idea what they were heading into.

Actually, what's commonly called "Y2K" wasn't just one event, but a whole bunch of potential problems that didn't become problems until dates as early as September 9, 1999 and as late as dates in 2001.

That just makes it one long non-event.
I don't think humanity can be happy unless there is a major catastrophe just over the horizon. And if there wasn't a real one, they'd probably invent one ... oh.

Something new to look forward to:
If the Mayan prophecy is true, just how might it all end on Friday? Scientists foretell the cataclysms that could bring on Doomsday
Comet or super-volcano named as most likely causes of the end of the world
Pet dogs could transmit deadly plague of cancers carried by foxes

Pretty curious that the winter solstice, Christmas and the end of the world are all directly connected.
