Default Grandparents had Orson Wells -----

Parents had this:
CONELRAD Adjacent: Code Word “Hatefulness”: The Great EBS Scare of 1971

We get zombies:
Zombie Hackers Exploited Emergency Alert System Security Flaws -

In case no one remembers - Orson Wells read H G Wells War of the Worlds on the radio - people listening thought the Martians were actually attacking.

I remember hearing about this from my dad. Though, I would like if the article got more in depth with how the attack worked. Passwords were not reset doesn't really say too much. I guess I'm still a little surprised that EAS systems would be internet accessible in the first place (though, I guess in a ww3 situation it would make sense to be able to get the message out without having to be in the station)...

I do think the part where one of the interviewees said something along the lines [no one would panic, they'd cross check the source] to be utter garbage. People barely check wikipedia sources. If it's on the news, they are believing it.
Source: weather forecasts.

I know quite a bit about the Orson Wells event. It causes issues for some people to be sure.

As for the events on 1971, I dimly recall something about that. I was a sophomore in HS at the time and quite likely, whatever CBS, NBC or ABC said about it I likely missed because the news was not a high priority for me in those days.

Winning the local AM radio contests, getting a car, finding a date for the weekend, homework and beer, well, that took precedence.
