Angry USPS and eBay getting on my last nerve!

Well eBay mainly but here's the story.

More than a month ago, before I bought my Android phone, I bought a Straight Talk Blackberry Curve. It was on sale for $50 and it even had a flash for the camera. Overall, I was pleased but unfortunately dust kept getting UNDER the screen. I exchanged it thinking I had a defective phone only to get dust under the second screen. I don't mean a little dust, I mean literally more than 50 specks. Then, after researching, I found out that this happens with many models in the Curve and Storm series. In the end I'm glad it happened because I really do like My Android phone.

The problem is I ordered an Otterbox Commuter for the Blackberry from eBay from a seller with a 15 day return policy. When I got it, I no longer had the phone so I contacted them about returning it. They told me to simply take it to the post office and refuse it, and as long is it was unopened they would just send it back as return to sender. So I did as they instructed the same day I received it.

Two weeks went by, then three, and now it's been more than a month and they haven't gotten it back. If I type in the tracking number on the USPS website, it only shows it being delivered to me. However, at the post office, they can see more info. They see it being tracked all the way back to Brooklyn, NY. The problem is it came from Flushing, NY! So the USPS delivered it to the wrong address and now it's lost.

The post office told me since it was priority mail, it was insured for up to $50 but the seller would have to file a claim since it was supposed to be delivered to them. I've explained the whole story to the seller three times and even sent them a scanned copy of the tracking record that the post office printed out for me. I've gotten this email from them ALL THREE times!

Dear jmcook797,

Hello
we apologize for this issue
the tracking number says you have received this package it has not been returned back to us
Your item was delivered at 11:52 am on November 1, 2013

I'm more upset with the seller than I am with the USPS. Mistakes happen but this is ridiculous! At this point, I've pretty much written off ever getting my $20 back.

All carriers do it. Read the horror stories in Telescope fora. I had UPS just about throw the scope on the front porch of the office. Right on the ticket was the notice that the address was a business and signature required.

Another time, a UPS driver left a package and forged my boss's sig just before I arrived.

FEDEX delivered accounting check 3 times to the wrong address. Somehow, they got Monument and Willamette confused. What's upside down dyslexia?

Can't you mention that in a review or doesn't Ebay let you make negative remarks?

I had a package USPS didn't deliver on time, it sat in a local distribution center for 3 days over delivery date. I asked Amazon to hurry the buggers up, and Amazon resent the order overnight.
I got an RMA and returned the original order which wound up being 6 days late.

Yes I've read some of those stories, it's a shame people can be so careless.

Ebay lets you leave bad feedback, but I was holding off for as long as I could but not anymore. The only bad things is that you only have 80 characters to explain the feedback. I will be sending eBay a message about this whole ordeal though and maybe they will refund my $20.

Overall this is only the 2nd bad experience I've had with eBay, and I've been buying various things from them for going on 10 years now so I'm not going to let it stop me from being a customer of eBay, only certain sellers.

I don't use eBay very much at all, but don't they have something analogous to Amazon's A-to-Z Guarantee Protection? Even if they don't, it must be possible to file a complaint with them regarding a seller.

Yes they do and I emailed them tonight. I'm just afraid since the USPS lost it, they won't consider it their problem. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Just explain it to them the way you did with us. Be sure they understand that you're not saying you never received the package, but that the seller simply isn't getting what you're saying. If they get it, perhaps they can explain it to the seller--who will give them something other than the canned response you're getting.

Well I explained everything to eBay over the phone. They told me that since the item is no longer for sale on eBay, I would have to take it up with Paypal (even though there owned by eBay!) So I filed a claim on Paypal. Here is the response I got.

We Have Registered Your Dispute

Thank you for registering your complaint about this transaction. Unfortunately, this type of transaction is not eligible for PayPal dispute resolution. We encourage you to continue to work directly with your seller, as we have found that many misunderstandings reach amicable solutions through communication.

My next step is to call Paypal. I have a feeling my $20 is gone but at this point I'm so fed up with it that I don't even care. If it were more money then I would really lose it lol.

WOW! One call to Paypal is all I needed to do to resolve this! When I explained everything to them they said they will just credit my Paypal account for $25.95! I didn't even expect to get the $5.95 back since I paid extra so it would arrive faster. They said the chances of the seller going through the trouble to file a claim with the postal service is next to 0 since they already have the payment for the item. I am pleasantly surprised.

The seller just got some really bad feedback as well.

Well I had to call again because I still haven't recieved my credit. They told me they need me to file a dispute with my bank and my bank gave me an affidavit that I have to take to the sheriff. At that point my bank can forcibly make them refund me because they refused to simply file a claim. I know it's only $25 but at this point it's more about the principle of the matter.

Ok this thing is over now. The bank said that I'm responsible for the first $50 of the claim and since it's only $25 I can just kiss it goodbye. The seller is Coolcorp1122 so I advise everyone to not do business with them.
