Default Water Cooler Rumors and Gossip

You meet your friends and coworkers around the water cooler and begin to discuss rumors about upcoming Android devices. Discussions range from concept devices to the wait being experienced for new devices. That, fellow members, is the purpose of this thread. Today rumor threads and posts exist all over the place. For example a post for the HTC One replacement may be found under any HTC thread, under a specific carrier thread or anywhere else. Lets try and keep all the rumors in one place, here!

Please follow the Android Forum rules for posts here. Since we are all different, please provide a link for the source of all rumors. One member may consider a feature trivial while another considers that feature the one that makes this device a must have. Also please remember that copyright laws exist so do not copy information verbatim.

That's it. Let the rumors flow.

OK, here is a rumor about the new LG G Flex. Are curved screens fully developed yet? You may end up with bubbles in the curved portion.

September 2013 had a possible concept of a future Samsung phone. I think it looks great, but I would not trust the curved display. How long would the curved screen last???

I finally found a rumor confirming what I thought about the new Galaxy F smartphone. It looks like the GS5 will be the plastic model while the GF will be the metal one.

"The report adds that the Galaxy F will help kick off a new line of "super-premium" smartphones, with the Galaxy F serving as a higher-end version of the Galaxy S5."

Interesting - that almost makes it sound like the S series will no longer be a flagship model. Or would "super-premium" translate to a rare phone few people buy?

I prefer epic, colossal, gargantuan, historic and legendary-type device-specific rumor/leak threads?

Huh can be Huh!

This is the lounge after all. The main purpose of the thread is to try and keep rumors in one place instead of spreading them out all over the place.

Those threads are fine too. I am not a staff person so i don't get a say anyhow. The truth is I will probably upgrade this spring or summer, but have no idea whether to stay with Samsung or switch. Without a single spot to find and discuss rumors how am I supposed to know which brand to get?

Let's just keep both then!

That wasn't a complaint, but an inside joke to those who remember a certain rumor thread of world-wide repute. Relax and know that you and your threads and ideas are more than welcome, here.

Yes that is an interesting point. It may well be the latter depending on the extra cash outlay. For an extra $50 it might be worth it - for$ 200 extra it would not be woth it for me!

I think you just hit the nail on the head! I feel the price of the Galaxy F will be the determining factor. I don't use the GS III for much more than calls when I am not home. T-Mobile claims to have good non LTE coverage in my area and are increasing their footprint all the time. (Who would have thought they want to be a Sasquatch? ) All I know is that I get a good signal from VZW and get a very very poor to no signal from AT&T and Sprint. I use wifi to my home network to use a BLAST internet connection to Comcast. I have downloaded a 250 meg file on my desktop in ~3 seconds. Of course some servers have what appears to be poor connections to the backbone. Downloading from Epson, for example, is usually at about 250kb.

Let me go get some dinner. The blasted chemicals the doctor used to dilate my eyes hasn't worn off yet and the glare from the monitor is giving me a headache. Yes the brightness is is cranked way down.

Interesting that the S5 may not use the AMOLED display. I think since this is thread is for Android rumors it should be in the Android Lounge section?

Default KitKat 4.4.2 for GS III

Sigh! Here we go again or where have I heard this before. GSMArena today (21 Jan 2014) says that the Samsung GS III will be getting a KitKat 4.4.2 upgrade by the end of March.

Default Bad News From T-Mobile?

According to GSMArena the Sony Xperia Z1S will come with bootloader unlocking disabled. (posted 18 Jan 2014) This apparently was requested by T-Mobile.

Just when T-Mobile is gaining some momentum, they decide to go all corporate. Maybe that will change after release. I think some HTC phones have to wait awhile after release to get on the unlock list. Maybe this will be similar.

I recently got an update from Google Now about the rumor Galaxy s 5 phone. To me, its really interesting but it sounds expensive. Here's my source.

That site is requesting that I do one of those stupid CloudFlare CAPTCHAs.

Why do I have to complete a CAPTCHA?

Completing the CAPTCHA proves you are a human and gives you temporary access to the web property.

What can I do to prevent this in the future?

If you are on a personal connection, like at home, you can run an anti-virus scan on your device to make sure it is not infected with malware.
If you are at an office or shared network, you can ask the network administrator to run a scan across the network looking for misconfigured or infected devices.

Do these peeps want people to view their content "web property" or not?

I don't get any sign-on screen with a Captcha. Could it have something to do with your location? Flagfox has an USA flag indicating the server is here in the States. I don't know what is going on.

If they really include expandable storage at least, I think they could take some business away from Samsung. I doubt the battery would be removable.

The only curved phone, coming to the US in a reasonable time frame that I have heard of, is the LG G Flex. This site lists a potential problem and has a demo video from CES.

I wonder how scratch resistant that flexible screen material is. It would likely be much harder to break/shatter, but if it scratches easily I would rather stick with Gorilla Glass.

Six inch screen is way too big for me. I'm drawing the line at five unless they can somehow squeeze another fraction of screen into the current S3/S4 size.

Does anyone have any info on the Nokia X that is supposed to run Android? Nokia has always had decent cameras. I'd be interested in what flavor of Android, and where it would be available.

I can't see Microsoft putting out an Android Nokia phone, it would be an admission that Windows Phone is a failure and undermine the whole brand. I'd like it to happen, though. Nokia makes nice stuff.

I will call this a rumor since I haven't seen an announcement yet. Besides it gives me a chance to point to a hands on evaluation of a new product.

The LG G Flex is supposed to go on sale at AT&T tomorrow (31 Jan.) and at Sprint (5 Feb.). Phone Scoop has the review.

I hate to disagree with you Gmash, but this was published just yesterday.

"Round The Rumor Mill: Microsoft Still Plans to Release Nokia X Android Phone"

You take a phone with weak hardware. Put an old version of Android on it. MS then says how much better a windows phone is. Simple logic.

Meh, if it ever sees the light of day, it looks like something slated for third-world countries. Maybe they have an internal team who has to keep a toe on the Android waters so they'll be somewhat prepared when Windows Phone finishes dying its slow death.

Here is a 12 minute video alleging to be the Sony Xperia Z2. It looks like an interesting device. It uses the LG G2 double tap to wake up. The screen looks sharp. I was surprised how good it sounded coming through the stereo speakers on my desktop computer.

I'd like to see Sony step it up in the US, we need more competition.

Honestly I hope they don't do this. I love android but I also believe that windows phone and windows operating system could be amazing if developers would do better. Windows is a great os and I use it everyday. They could compete with android. I don't know why its not doing so well. If I had the money, I'd probably buy a surface pro. But here's the thing. I don't need another full blown computer. I can't justify $1100 for a tablet in which a $500 Samsung tablet could furfill all my needs.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I think it's a good thing. Lack of apps is one thing that's held WP back, and Android needs more competition, they are getting too cocky for my liking.

I've still yet to see a Win Phone device in the wild.
