I've been a little confused on all the details of this process, but if I understand this correctly, do I have to use the unbrick method to get my device from 87010B to 87010A before I can do anything with this kernel? I've got my 87010B rooted and had my ROM Toolbox and everything on; I couldn't get this phone into a recovery menu or anything, so I used RTB to reboot in recovery... And all it did was hard reset my phone. I'm a little sketchy on the full extent of this process on the B firmware, and I want to double check before I end up ruining this phone.

Sorry if anything is so blatantly obvious, I just want to make full sure I comprehend the process...

Sorry, I don't own this phone. I just made the kernel for you guys.

You'll have to start a new thread with your question and wait and see if anyone that owns this phone can provide you the answer you seek.

Yes, you must downgrade for the kernel to work.

Android Debug Bridge (ADB)

This runs adb with root access always. This feature is for those that use adb. If you don't use it and are not familiar with it, don't worry about it, it's probably not a feature you'll need.

ADB is for accessing your phone from the terminal on your PC which allows you to do many things.

If you would like to get familiar with adb there are some good guides out there that you can google.

Can I use Sammyz unroot method to go back to stock after flashing this kernel? Between the lack of development and the little update icon that I can't get rid of, I would rather go back to stock and update like normal.

Here's the stock kernel. Just flash the zip in ClockworkMod recovery and it will remove my modded kernel and restore the original stock kernel. You must first restore any apps that you removed that would normally cause the phone to brick without my modded kernel being installed.

Alternatively, I think you can also run the unbrick guide first and it will restore all the stock apps and then flash this to get stock kernel.

Download

GameTheory, can you also patch aboots for LG MACH and LG ESCAPE? I will be able to provide you the aboot for both and will be willing to test. Since if anything goes wrong, i can always recover my device.

These devices are not supported by loki patch. To see supported devices go to this link and scroll down till you see red font. There will be about 14 devices that are supported.

To see if these devices can be added, you will have to find djrbliss at XDA and ask him if he would be able to. He's super busy, so keep that in mind.

So if I use the unroot guide to get back all the apps I took off, I will still be able to flash the stock kernel in the stock recovery and then be able to do system updates?

I don't know anything about updates since I don't own this phone. To flash stock kernel, you need to have whatever recovery you guys have for this phone installed in order to flash this.

Guys, I would refrain from asking about ROM development and ETAs in a thread about a kernel that a guy that doesn't even own your phone created. GT has done a wonderful thing for you guys by making you a kernel that is loki patched, especially considering he doesn't own the phone, and has nothing to gain at all by using his spare, unpaid mind you, time to create it. How about saying thanks, and then asking all of your questions about Unbricking and rom development in their respective threads?

Also, GameTheory, would it be possible for people to flash the kernel without downgrading if they installed the A firmware aboot? Or is it different for this particular phone?

Hey Sworn, Thanks.

That's a good Q. It's a possibility that may work, but I'm not the least bit sure lol. Someone should definitely try that though. As long as they know how to unbrick it shouldn't be a problem if it doesn't work.

I have the aboot from firmware A, but not sure if it flashes to the same partition as the Motion. I'll go ahead and make a flashable using same partition, but getting someone to test will be a whole other challenge lol. This community is tiny.

I'll post back here in little while with flashable.

You'll need someone on B firmware to flash the kernel and the aboot to test it out

As far as I know, there's only firmware A and B. I made this kernel from firmware A files.

One person is telling me that he tried it on firmware B and it didn't work for him while you're saying that it worked for you on firmware B which is great. Either way, it doesn't matter cause I made this for firmware A which it'll definitely work on.

So I'm on the new firmware now and installed the kernel and everything. When i boot up a get the box of "*******" with something like "boot error" that flashes on for an instant. I would call that a problem but i'm still able to remove all the bloatware without any problem (tested on amazon app store, and IMBD), and my phone is detected as an adb device.... So i guess it is overall a success!

GameTheory, you have a modded kernel for this (which is basically the same as the Optimus F5) and for the F7, so do you think you could make one for us F3 users? It would be greatly appreciated

Oh wow. Never came up in any of my searches... Awesome! And I see you're working on a ROM for it too? Would it be too much to ask how that's coming along?

I had to postpone the rom because noone has uploaded the files I need to make it.

edit:
Just noticed your side panel says you're with virgin mobile. I'm working on the Metro PCS version of F3.

Is there anything I can do to help, if you're willing to make it for another carrier's version? I'm fine with restoring my phone due to a soft brick.

There's a fairly large number of people wanting a rom, I can be a test dummy for that as well.

Someone uploaded an edited stock rom, think this could help the process?

Going through that thread, he said he got about 20% done with Cyanogenmod, but later he says the phone went through the washer, so any progress has been stalled, possibly indefinitely.
