Default no offense

Xda is where it's at for any respectable development projects. I think you guys would have more headway migrating there for custom roms.seeing that this phone had been out for awhile, there has to be some folks over there that can get the ball rolling.

Im offended! JK ...yes I agree with you. Clearly nothing is being posted on this phone from this particular forum. Its actually strange considering the other phones I owned were popular on this forum. Clearly this phone did not take off the way it was pictured to have.

Hmm phone should have so much going for itself now since the boost version was released! I think the best thing is ask devs on the optimus black forum on xda to help us make a WORKING CWM, then custom roms, etc.. will follow!

For the record, XDA is a fantastic forum, especially for anything generic Android-related. However specific CDMA-based handsets have never been all that popular over there (with a few notable exceptions, such as the HTC EVO).

For example, back in the days of Windows Mobile, the Touch Pro 2 GSM version had quite a following on XDA. However, there was almost nothing for serious ROM development of the CDMA Sprint/Verizon version.

In fact, when folks asked for a section on XDA, the response was usually something like "there isn't enough interest in that handset for its own section". Almost everything was happening on PPCGeeks.com, and once the community was established elsewhere, eventually an XDA section was born, with stickies and FAQs pointing to PPCGeeks.com mostly.

Same was true of the Optimus S. Almost all Optimus developments were happening for the Sprint network on Androidcentral.com, AND NOT XDA.

For my nearly 10 years of posting there, I can say that XDA appears to cater to a global market, which is mostly European-band GSM phones, and the smaller CDMA markets (boost especially) hardly ever get any love. Androidforums.com seems to be were most of the Boost support comes from, and Androidcentral.com seems to be preferred for a lot of the smaller Sprint options.

For Sprint, androidcentral.com has had a pretty decent section of their forum for the marquee, hosting many early conversations between myself and tcaudill01 (arguably the person who got the closest to actually cracking this thing open). The conversation there eventually died out when there wasn't enough interest, and only came here recently when it launched on Boost months later.

As far as getting O-Black people to help... Tcaudill01, myself, and a few others have tried to illicit the help of folks from XDA. If you search the Optimus Black section of the forum there, you'll find a few posts dealing with the Maruqee, and you'll also notice that they are not met with much fanfare. I wish I had better things to say right now, but until we get a Marquee into the hands of someone who knows enough about recovery to figure it out, jumping to another forum isn't going to solve anything.
I had a marquee for about 2 weeks. I'd love to see it cracked open so I can adopt it again, but sadly I don't have the time or skill level for it myself. I've tried conversing about this on every Android forum I could find, even down to harassing known devs on twitter.
My hope is that some of the Boost devs (I know there are quite a few budget conscious brilliant minds out there) will eventually adopt this handset and shine some light on it. But I have a feeling it won't happen on XDA. My 2 cents.

You are probably right i saw your post yall made on the xda for the sprint model of the marquee and got nowhere! I remember when the triumph came out i posted on xda and with success got a good dev named issacj87 to come over to AF and he made the CWM, and miui for the triumph! So i guess i got lucky on that one!

SO THIS IS A CRY FOR HELP! if we can get a working cwm, i will try to make a update zip from the nandroid and will be set for stock like roms with tweaks and such!

I have some links showing you how to make cm7 and somebody with ubuntu or linux can work they magic with that!

I really appreciate you guys bopping around these forums. I got my marquee the other day, rooted it, and bricked it within 24 hours. Got it replaced. The self-proclaimed girly techno geek says I should not have tried to install zeam launcher. I didn't really tell her what I did, and i now have a new marquee, but I am watching from the sidelines for now. I can't bring another one back. I would just like to have root and cwm, or any other type of recovery.

But that thread over at xda is all greek to me right now. What the heck is the "g" key?. Until I understand fully, I need to absorb more. Just turned in my midterm, so I hope I have more time.

Thanks again!

From what I have been reading the last month or so now and from my own experience. You can root the Lg Marquee (LG Esteem OneClickRoot NOW READY!! | AndroidNerds.net). I am uncertain of using CWM since that is what worries me of bricking mine. I have used the stock rom and am waiting until someone can come up with a working method of CWM and a custom rom.. Until then I enjoy my phone for the most part anyway so its no big deal. I have not read the xda site, nor do I know what the "g key" is lol.

Yea right now only thing that can be done is rooting the device. that thread on xda is for a variant model of the lg marquee. so hopefully if things work on that model we can use that to install a fully working cwm! So then with a backup you wont have to worry about not having a phone if screw with things!

Also the g key is the button located below the volume button.... you can use it to quick launch certain apps...I use mine as a dedicated camera button.

I wouldn't try using another recover from a different model especially since we don't know how the boost model dev/block are. I found some info on it but i was trying to find it using adb? Anybody know how so i can post it on that xda thread?

Here's the commands, to run from adb or terminal, that I gave Playfulgod to build the Ignite CWM. Someone else has posted some of this info for the Marquee in the last couple days. May want to compare your output of these with them.

cat /proc/mtd NOT FOUND.
ls /dev/block/mmcblk*
cat /proc/cpuinfo
cat /proc/partitions
cat /proc/mounts
vold.fstab contents vold.fstab in system/etc
