Default [ROOT][CWM] LG Marquee AIO Root & Recovery

I am in no way responsible for what you do to your phone. Use at your own risk!

The zip contain scripts for windows, linux, and OSX (Intel Based), just download to your pc, unzip, and run the appropriate one for your OS. Both zips are All In One, meaning it will root and install CWM in one step. Also options to unroot, unroot n install stock recovery.

  • Download zip to your computer
  • Unzip zip
  • Connect phone to computer via USB cable
  • turn on and put into Internet connection mode
  • Make sure debugging is enabled in settings > applications > development.
  • run the install script for your OS (.bat = windows, .sh = linux, mac)
Note: Please let me know if they are issues with the scripts or if the phone setting are different.

The goods!

Can I use this even though I've already rooted my phone with OneClickRoot and used your CWM from yesterday?

Default hello God

Not to be disrespectful, even to a playful god...

I just wanted you to know that it did not work for me on my Boost Mobile LG-LG855. I did all of the usb drivers, but i still got hung at the daemons starting screen...

That's when I did the LG Marquee Root Guide

and then...

[WORKING]CWM Recovery v5.0.2.8

Both finished and rebooted the phone. I got root and cwm, and was able to make backups.

But the all in one did not work.

I appreciate your help on this phone, you being a God and all, I just wanted to let you know...

And thanks! This is not meant to be snarky; i just wanted to let you know.

lol I left su, superuser, n busybox out, other than that it should work, same script as the other just installing the pre-mentioned files.

Edit: I added su, superuser.apk, and busybox to the zip.

Still can't root? Try to root and install CWM separately.

Root - How to Root Sprint LG Marquee - LG Cell Phones Blog
CWM - [WORKING]CWM Recovery v5.0.2.8

Worked for me on the first try for both

I wanted to add that the drivers I used for both my Root and CWM were the ones munguse linked to above me (v3.2.1.2)
How to Root Sprint LG Marquee - LG Cell Phones Blog

I couldn't get the v1.0 drivers to work, so you may want to give the 3.2.1.2 drivers an install, then try adb and see if the phone is recognized.

But

IF YOUR COMPUTER DOESN'T RECOGNIZE UR PHONE WHEN USB CONNECTED THEN FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
1ST- ON UR COMPUTER OPEN THE DEVICES AND PRINTER TAB, HIGHLIGHT ANDROID NET DEVICE, RIGHT CLICK, CLICK ON PROPERTIES,
2ND- SELECT THE HARDWARE TAB, THEN HIGHLIGHT (THE 1ST OPTION IN SELECTION PANE BY SINGLE CLICKING THE: 'ANDROID SOONER SINGLE ADB INTERFACE' THEN DBL CLICK ON PREFERENCES BUTTON BELOW....
3RD- IN NEXT WINDOW SELECT THE SETTINGS BUTTON AND SELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS: UNINSTALL OR UPDATE (BEST=UNINSTALL)

THATS IT! CUZ THE NEXT TIME YOU HOOK PHONE TO COMPUTER VIA USB (CABLE THAT CAME WITH THE PHONE) THE WHOLE DRIVERS PACKAGE WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE INSTALLED.

**** THE MARQUEE ONLY CONNECTS TO YOUR PC VIA THE ORIGINAL USB CABLE!!!!****

SUPERONECLICKROOT AND THE SEPERATE CWM FILE FROM THE LINK AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE WORKS THE BEST FOR BOTH THE BOOST/SPRINT PHONES. ROOT FIRST WITH SUPER1CLICKROOT*TIP- KEEP USB DEBUGGING DISABLED UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST TWO LINES APPEAR ON THE INTERFACE, THEN CHECKMARK THE USB DEBUGGING OPTION ON PHONE AND THE ROOT WILL FINISH, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE STUCK FOR ETERNITY*

(not trying to diss the man who put this awsome prog together, cuz i couldnt do what he does, but figured i'd relieve some of the frusteration for yall that r bout 2 do try it out)... actually the "AOI"works sometimes but i believe since it doesnt keep the usb debugging off until the first two lines appear after clicking root in
sup-1-clk-root... DONATE TO THE GOD CUZ HE WOORKS MAD HARD ON THIS SH!T FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL..

Default Help for mac user?

So I've previously rooted a LG Optimus by hand moving files over and executing via the adb shell.

But I can't get this AIO to work. Can someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong?

I have USB Debugging on, and when it says USB connected I have it set to "Charge only" (as opposed to mass storage).

I have ADB up and running, so when I type in "ADB devices" in the terminal it responds with the device attached.

When I try to run the script in Terminal (not Console, which I can't find a run command and appears to be an editing program), I get a request for a password. When I type the password, I get this:
Files/adb: Files/adb: cannot execute binary file
Looking for device
/Users/Mac/Desktop/LGMarquee_AIO/RootRecoveryAIO.sh: line 422: Files/adb: cannot execute binary file
....
The device cannot be found.
Plug or replug the USB cable. Press any key to continue.

It obviously is a problem with pointing the script to the right location for my device. But I don't know exactly what the script wants in this regard.

Help??

for root, cwm, or both?

for root, try this: http://vulnfactory.org/public/LG_Esteem_Root_v2_Linux_OSX.zip

for cwm try this:
Code:
adb shell
su
adb push Files/cwmrecovery.img /data/local/tmp/cwmrecovery.img
dd if=/data/local/tmp/cwmrecovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 bs=4096
(make sure you are in the AIO directory)

First, thanks for the quick reply and help. My question was for the AIO script -- so in answer to your question -- both. Is there a way to run it on Mac (Intel) that I am missing?

For the root zip you linked, I downloaded it -- but what next?

For the cwm -- I can follow that code once I get root.

Thanks!

Talking Almost there for a Mac (intel) -- just wussed out at end

Well, folks seem to be busy so I took a stab at this myself. Basically, I opened the RootRecoveryAIO.sh file in a good text editor (Fraise for Macs), and took a look under the hood.

Stripping away the mini-GUI stuff for users, the basic goods for root start at "Pushing Zergrush". To be explicit for future Mac users, though, here is a step by step:

  1. I entered Terminal
  2. I cd'd to the file where the AIO was located (so that I could correctly follow the paths in the text). For me, that was done by typing: "cd ~/Desktop/LGMarquee_AIO".
  3. I then confirmed that my device was connected by typing "adb kill-server" and "adb start_server". I got back "daemon started successfully" so I was good to go.
  4. Then, I simply cut and paste (from the editor to the terminal window) the relevant commands after "Pushing Zergrush." There are three of them before you get root on the adb. Because I was running this directly, rather than via a script, I only had to type the part starting with adb. So, the first line was "adb push Files/zergrush /data/local/tmp/zergrush"
  5. Then the next two lines, each in sequence.
  6. I knew I had root (although you don't see the # symbol like you would if you were actually in an adb shell, rather than just using a "remote" adb shell) because I could then enter the commands for "Removing Trash and Installing Root files"
  7. I did the first two, which remount /dev/block files. That worked.

Then I totally wussed out -- because the next line was "rm /system/bin/su". That made me a little worried -- because I really don't know if this code works, given that the script did not -- at least on a Mac.

I am pretty sure that I could have just continued cutting and pasting on through the rest of the commands in the "Root" section of the .sh file. But I wanted some confirmation that folks have actually used these commands and they worked. . . . so . . . . has anyone??

If I get a green light, I will move through the commands and post the whole thing for Mac users.

when i ran it with that line it just said file not found and skips the next 5 or 6 lines that are similar.

Ok. So I got it to root and to install CWMrecovery. I just backed up.

Basically, the script's line commands work, I just couldn't use the script itself.

I can post the details if anyone wants, but its basically just continuing off where my post above stopped from *****dom.

Default Mac Root for LG Marquee

So, two things:

1) Playful God's code does work, but for me I had to "find & replace" the following: "Files/$" with (nothing -- i.e, just delete Files/$ in each line).

2) There is also a Mac specific app (i.e., one touch rooting) that does this and more. I don't want to hijack Playful God's thread, so I will post a new one on this topic.

Many thanks Playful God!

Default Root

Download Marquee drivers to your PC, install them, download whichever root method to your PC. Go to settings/applications/development and check the box in USB debugging. Unzip the root file. Connect your phone (via USB) double click on the
.bat file and follow the prompts. You will then be rooted

Apparently there's a new LG update as of 3/28:

LG Marquee Software Update - LS855ZVC

Enhancements/Fixes
- Device may lockup while on call
- Security update

After updating, you lose the root, as well as the way to root it previously.

http://community.sprint.com/baw/community/buzzaboutwireless/phones-and-devices/lg/lg_marquee/blog/2012/03/28/lg-marquee-software-updates

If you've got CWM installed, you can always revert to a saved rom though, right?

Interesting...if anyone updates please post. I just checked, and wasn't available to me.

BTW, in the "System Updates" menu, what's the difference between "Update Firmware" and "Update LG Software"? Supposedly this update is installed with "Update LG Software" while I had assumed that would just update some LG apk's or something. "Update Firmware" for the radio firmware maybe?

  • Download zip to your computer
  • Unzip zip
  • Connect phone to computer via USB cable
  • turn on and put into Internet connection mode
  • Make sure debugging is enabled in settings > applications > development.
  • run the install script for your OS (.bat = windows, .sh = linux, mac)
Note: Please let me know if they are issues with the scripts or if the phone setting are different.

Default Help!

I have read the entire thread, tried everything that has been suggested and still can't get my Boost Mobile Marquee to root. I can only get as far as "*daemon started successfully *" but then NOTHING. I have downloaded/installed the drivers, have the phone in "charge only" and "usb debugging". The phone is recognized on my computer and i have not gotten the new update. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance

Never mind, after trying many more times I rebooted my laptop and that seemed to have taken care of the problem!

Make sure your zergrush file did not accidentally get moved out of the folder from an anti-virus program.

Default Just installed OTA firmware update

I just did the OTA firmware update and it removed root but now this method doesn't work. It just sits on daemon started successfully and then nothing. I've seen this before when rooting other devices when the method doesn't work. I'm going to try and restart my computer and see if that works. But I think they disabled the method.

If you want to ROOT your LG Marquee with no problems or errors.....this is what I did.

Go to YouTube and type "How to ROOT Boost Mobile LG Marquee"...watch video by knoxville363....I did it and it worked perfect....not one problem

Then go and follow instructions from playful God or Monster for CWM Recovery v5.0.2.8

This can be found in other forums here.

I am new to all of this and these two steps I have had no problems.

PlayfulGod's CWM is AIO. It has Root and CWM. Just to add to what you mentioned.

I was posting that information because there have been a few people who have had their antivirus program automatically delete the zergrush exploit, which is required to push both superuser and CWM recovery image to the phone. If it's not in the folder with the script, the console will hang when it's supposed to execute the exploit.
Also, the zergrush exploit does not work on the newest Marquee update, ZVC and ZV4 for Sprint and Boost, respectively. If you're running ZV9, the older version, you will want to look here for the Sprint update or here for the Boost update. These will allow you to keep root privileges and your CWM recovery through the update. From there, you can flash to a ZVC/ZV4 rom if you choose.
BTW, welcome to the forums

Np, welcome to the forums! At this point in time there is only one ROM that is for the zvc update, Marky Beats v1.2zvc. Now I cannot report on PlayfulGod's 'Undeniable Marquee', weather or not it is updated for the zvc update or not though that is for Sprint ONLY. There is a version for both Boost and Sprint. You can however, use MB v1.2 (before the zvc update) though your S/W Version under 'About Phone' will still read ZV3(Boost) and ZV9 (Sprint). Though I am quite sure the Update sticks on either ROM, since after flashing the first boot you see the "Checking Firmware for Update" that pops up then says "No Update was Found". Just to inform you these ROM's are still in Beta Testing stages and have a few issues, overall though |Monster| did a GREAT Job!!

This whole process has been pretty cool.....I have read thoroughly throughout the posts regarding what to do and what not to do....When I got the Marquee with Boost, I had a feeling that the phone could do so much more than text and make phone calls...lol....I haven't had any issues so I am going to keep researching but Marky's Beats will be the one as I will have a "new tech toy" to explore and play with.....thanks again.

I clicked on the wrong post lol.....I didn't know how to delete it....I did the updates today after I installed the CWM...I guess if I had the ROM installed, it would have caused some problems....thank you.

Default Root Help

Hello, I'm kind of new to rooting phones and I'm having a problem. I followed both rooting methods, AIO and the other method and the only thing that happens is every line of the command prompt says permission denied, is there any way around this? Please help I'd like to root my phone if possible.
