I use NetSentry, which is a simple enough program. There's not too much to it, but I guess all you need to know is, how much data am I using?
As for other tv watching apps- I notice an app called SPB TV last week actually, but it's a paid for app, so I've not had a play around with it. They do have a free Lite version you can test out, but I believe it only has the one channel available.
