Running the RUU is pretty simple. If you go to the XDA link I posted on the site, you'll find there a link to the RUU executable. Download that file.
Running this assumes you've successfully connected your Hero to your PC already. If you haven't, you'll need to complete that first. Connecting your Hero to your PC requires that you to install HTC Sync 2.5 so that your Hero communicates with your PC.
Once you run the executable, read the instructions carefully. Essentially it will tell you that you need to connect your Hero and understand that it will complete erase and reset your phone to factory settings.
The RUU takes about 5-10 minutes to run. Once it completes, your Hero will reboot. This will also take about 10 minutes to complete. It will feel like an eternity but be patient.
After that, you should be upgraded to 1.29.
