Default unlock with htcdev

i sometimes refer folks to my rezound guide in other forums,so i decided to make a slightly more "universal" version that i could replicate in other forums,so everyone has a dedicated guide, and there are not accidents with accidental application of rezound specific details or files. devices i am familiar with i will try and tweak and add device specific recovery downloads/info. whatever device youre working on,please feel free to post in this thread,i will be happy to assist you

before we get started, however,be aware that htcdev does have its limitations. it can be used if you only wish to add root access to delete bloat and run a few root requiring apps, but IMO it is best used as a "steppig stone" to get root for downgrade,or for other exploits to run. if s-off is availble on any "downgradeable to" firmware,i do highly recomend to try and achieve that goal if you wish to activly flash roms. im happy to help with this,as well,if needed.

the basic steps will be:
1)unlock with htcdev
2)temporarily or permanently flash a recovery
3)flash root files

before you start,go ahead and download these files:
-mini-adb.zip: mini-adb.zip
-amon ra recovery for merge: http://www.mediafire.com/?4ihomf1b6dd49d6
-superuser files: for froyo use superuser 3.07 (found on revolutionary public wiki). for GB or ICS,use the latest superSU from this thread on xda (the download link is where is says: CWM installable ZIP: CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip )
-go to HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader and register an account

1)unlock with htcdev

2)flash a recovery

3)flash superuser root files*

to downgrade and superCID,sim unlock, and s-off the merge, you can now follow this guide:
root,s-off,simunlock,superCID htc merge

if youre considering leaving htcdev unlock, read this if you want to flash roms: s-on and want to flash roms? READ THIS

s-off is better, and worth whatever extra efforts to achieve if available.

*hope it helps, holler if you have questions

htcdev always give an error that they can not send email either mail is wrong or code is wrong?

what should i do?

by the way as I tried to get token severel times it always give me a different token every time i try?

is it something with my htc bootloader version?

it is normal to get a different token every time. only thing i can think of is make sure you are highlighting the blocks like the picture on htcdevs website.

if youre doing that correctly, you may have a warrany phone that has had some internal parts replaced-this has been known to cause issue.

you could try different usb cables, and see if that helps...

also make sure that you do not have htc sync, pdanet, easy tether,or any program cable of comunicating with the phone running.

it may have been a temporary issue with htcdevs website.

beyond that, you can try other means of temp root to get s-off,or you can contact htc and see if they have any advice why the tokens are not working.

You should be presented with the hboot downloads when going thru the unlock process on the htcdev website. After the disclaimer checkboxes, and prior to the actual unlock directions.

Great post Scotty.
After following your instructions and using the HTC DEV provided unlock_code.bin, I easily unlocked the bootloader. I also installed the recovery image you linked(PD42IMG_lexikon_ra_3.04.zip), which already give you S-OFF and SuperCID. Then installed chanfire SuperSU .zip from recovery (make sure you have fastboot unchecked in setting- power)(power off phone, press volume down+power, ...then volume down to recovery..in recovery go dwon to flash zip menu..press power...volume down to choo zip form sdcard, then choose down the SuperSU.zip, press power ...let finish flashing and reboot.

to sim unlock in order to work on ATT and T-mobile
I googled and downloaded the unlocked radio VzW_1.06.00.0910.zip I installed PD42IMG.zip as follow
1. Place the PC421MG.zip radio file on the root of you SD card.
2. Power the phone off.
3. Hold the volume button down and press power on.
4.The phone will boot into Hboot then Bootloader, It should see the PC421MG.zip and ask if you want to apply the zip.
5. Use the volume up button to select "yes"
6. Once its done flashing, reboot the phone and you should have a new radio.
you should remove the PC421MG.zip from the SDcard to avoid future unnecesary upload when you going to the bootloader

Then i went to phone and dialed *#*#4636#*#* then in phone information. set network type to WCDMA preffered or GSM only

tried it on both T-mobile and ATT and they work fine

I got my phone rooted, S-OFF, SuperCID 11111, custom recovery and ready for ATT and Tmobile phone and data service

Awsome! Glad it was helpful. My merge works fine on gsm carriers, regardless of the radio. Some folks have issues even when using the alleged unlocked radio. glad yours ist working correctly. You'll prolly find it works a little better on at&t,where you should see hspa+ data. T mobile will only get you edge data, unless you're lucky enuff to live in one of their refarmed networks
