Ok IF T-Mobile buys metro and you bought a CDMA phone from metro such as the S3 when it comes out, you WILL NOT have to give up/sell your phone. Why? Because they would LOSE customers. And if this is to take over metro's 4G LTE network, all 4G, 3G, 1x CDMA phones will still work properly. Just because a GSM phone company buys a CDMA company doesn't mean they are gonna switch all metro's towers to GSM signals....that would be stupid and expensive as heck!

Exactly what some are not realizing here is that tmobile wants metro lte that's it they are after that and it will give them an LTE footprint let's forget about the whole CDMA and gsm thing we will be just fine purchasing any lte device cause it's the future

LTE signals work with both CDMA phones and GSM phones. The signal works with ANY LTE phone whether GSM or CDMA.

T-Mobile buying out metro would actually be bad for us already on metro because this will mean a lot of people all hopping onto metro's 4G LTE at once. Speeds would slow down......

If you guys have read the Reuters article according to their sources Deutsche Telekom is essentially giving T-Mobile to Metro in exchange for what I'm sure will be a significant share of stock.
So this isn't Metro getting bought out, this is really Metro buying T-Mobile. DT really just badly wants out of the US market.

I actually read about that a while ago. For now we should just sit back and relax until we get the details tomorrow.

Yup have to see if DT's board will even approve this, though I think it highly likely.
I doubt Metro wouldn't want this deal either as they don't have to actually put out any money, just give up a certain amount of shares and this also allows T-Mobile to technically become a publicly traded company, which has the potential to bring even more capital in.

ok so what you think about this

Official PR from T-Mobile and a video statement from CEO Legere are now waiting for you after the break. There's a few new interesting details, including that MetroPCS's CFO will be holding on to his position post merger. Interestingly, even though the carriers will become one company, for the foreseeable future they will maintain separate pools of customers. However, we wouldn't be surprised to see that change as the LTE rollout accelerates and gives T-Mobile a true 4G offering. As Legere notes in the clip below, this is just the first step and the deal isn't expected to close until sometime during the first half of 2013.

T mobile obviously wanted lte and now they've got it.

Metro is about to roll out the best phone on the market and is gaining customers by the truck load. They wouldn't do anything to cause their customers to jump ship. Wet have no contact so we can leave without hesitation at any moment and they know this. T mobile knows this.

I'm sure they have been going over every scenario for months and months.

I'm not worried. Why? Cause i can walk away and sign up for straight talk and not miss a beat.

They are a bigger company. Read the article, it says that in essence Metro is taking over t mobile.

T mobile is obviously the bigger company so that name will stay. They have more money, customers and stocks so of course their stake well be bigger.

The good news for us? More coverage and a data network that covers a 20mhz x 20mhz spectrum from which Metro just expanded to 10.

It will remain 2 separate companies for now but they are basically sharing each others perks.

Just read the article, it's all in there.

The new company will operate under "T-Mobile", and drop "MetroPCS".

Which is interesting for me... because I've been contemplating switching over to T-Mobile. I've been very unhappy with the smartphone choices and "4G" speed with MetroPCS.

According to many sources metro is getting the GS3. I'm thinking that just may be what you need the best android phone available atm.

This is another reason why I won't pick up the gs3 on released. Gotta see if any changes comes of this.

One good news is they are planning to provide wide selection of services. Hope we can keep affordable services

T-Mobile Confirms Plans to Merge With MetroPCS | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

MetroPCS and T-Mobile did not mention specific post-merger wireless plans or devices, except to say that the combined firms will offer "a wider selection of attractive, competitively priced plans to better serve the marketplace, including contract, no-contract monthly, SIM-only, pay-as-you-go and mobile broadband services."

Looks to me that metropcs will be doing the work while tmobile just reaps the money in till it sells its stocks off. Wonder what will happen than. I hope metro gets to use tmobiles 4g as tmobile has great coverage here.

Very interesting. It mentioned, however, they will be operating separately. As long as MetroPCS remains at $70.00 and contract-free, I couldn't care less what they do.

By they way, this thread should be moved to the MetroPCS forum or the T-Mobile one.

Good for shareholders and cost cutting, not so good for planholders and competition. Maybe the FCC will agree but I doubt it!
