I sure hope they don't stop my current $55 unlimited (well I get it only for 50 since I'm on a family plan too). Still $60 is not bad for unlimited 4G.
The $30 (promo) plan was made for me. I don't use that much data and I don't want to be hesitant about using the phone to talk or text. I used to have Virgin Mobile's 300 minute talk, unlimited text and data plan and it was the worst thing for me. When I was on the phone, the only thing I could think of was to make the conversation as short as possible so as not to exceed my monthly minutes. Now I talk my heart out without worrying and even though I use 4g (much faster than Virgin's 3g) data frequently when I am away from office or home, I still don't/won't exceed the 250MB 4g limit. I have a feeling that a good majority of people who use smart phones don't use as much data as they think they need.

??? What are you talking about he's talking about the fully unlimited 4G plan.
The only reason you get throttled on 4G is you've used a substantial amount of data but I dont think anyone would use that much data on 3G but if they did that would probably be throttled also, because in the TOS it basically just says that if you impede the service of others they have the right to limit or cancel your service

I wouldn't be surprised if they force everyone to switch to newer plans like Verizon did. Meaning being grandfathered doesn't matter. That's exactly what Verizon did with their new plans and it looks like metro is doing the same thing being that they are limiting the lotions.
With t mobile changing their plan layouts its obvious that metro was gong to do the same thing. Plus with the growing popularity of mvnos they have to compete with those as well.
If metro actually pushes their data speeds to what they should be, these plans will be great. Plus i wouldn't be surprised if there is more changes to come.

Fuzzy, hasn't Metro GF in everyone on all prior plans so far?
VZN didn't force everyone to go to tiered. I still have unlimited data on VZN. You are only forced to go tiered once you accept your next subsidized phone from them. Otherwise you stay GF in. Yes, I'll give that up to come to Metro. The most data I've ever used was about 3.5 g and that was a month with massive WiFi issues and basically no other net availability.

I'm talking about Verizon's "unlimited" plans they had that people were on. I personally know several people that all had unlimited plans through them from which they were forced to switch to their newer share everything plans. I know there's been plenty of news article on that subject as well. But verizon does have the subsidized phone work around if you wanted to keep your previous plan. But I dont like talking about things I dont know about first hand so this is only info that I've gathered from about 5 or 6 friends and what's on the web. So what i speak of isn't first hand.

I say again.
No one forced anyone on Verizon to do anything UNTIL you accepted your NEXT subsidized phone from them THEN yes, you did have to change plans to the new tiered plans.
I still have unlimited data on Verizon. I hear never heard one word from them about switching to a new plan and I probably wouldn't until I got a new phone and the new paperwork showed up in the mail.
PS It says right in your 2nd article linked no one HAS to change Until they get their next subsidized phone from VZN.

new activation only. In store we only have the promo plan for 4g phones available for new lines. On the non smart phones we have access to the 25 and 30 plans for reactivation...

@Trigger1074 ok let me get this straight... so right now I have the 50 dollar 4g plan on my LG esteem and I want to switch to the 30 dollar 4g promotional plan. What I have to do is deactivate my LG esteems line and then go activate my LG esteem on a new line at any store and ask for the 30 dollar promotional plan right???
Another question.. Since the promotional 30 dollar plan is about to end on 01/03/13. What can I do if I paid my phone Bill a week ago and I want to deactivate my phone?? Will they refund me my money or what??

You cant switch to the 30$ promo on an existing phone, its only on a brand new phone and activation. You can however switch to the 55$ unlimited.
If you just paid your bill and switched to a new plan like the 55$ that would go towards it. But if you cancelled your line they will not issue a refund.

How to get on the $30 plan

I went to a corporate store and asked if I could get on the $30 plan with my current number, and they said no, I needed a new activation.
Then I went to a local store and asked them, and they said I only needed to buy a new phone. I bought a new Android LG Motion 4G that day, and I was immediately switched to the $30 plan with my same number. That was Dec 4th, and it shows correctly $30 on mymetro account. I'm in central Florida.
For any store rep that says you need a new number too tell them they need to go read the specifics from Metro's website. It only states you need to be activating a new phone, not a new number.
Metro won't force anyone to there new plans, everyone will still have there grandfathered plans, I've seen people have the old $45 unlimited international calling plan still on there feature phone they just get taxed for it.
Metro will keep grandfathering your plan as long as you stay with the same type of phone ex. 4glte phone to new 4glte phone can grandfather your plan, etc. It would be a bad move on there part because they have all these people moving to the $30 plan and $55 plan the past few months that they've been available.
As for the reason of the change i think it has to do with them dropping MetroStudio completely out of the $70 plan.
As for the $30 promo plan that plan is only available to PHONES that have no account history, you can keep your number your just going to need a new phone.

The 25$ and 30$ feature phone plans required a new phone activation not switching down to it. Now it includes reactivation as well. The 30$ plan for 4g required a new 4G phone purchase.

I remember a time when all smartphones were $ 50 Dollar and Up Plans Only-
Then a point when you could get a 4G LTE Phone on the $ 40 Plan but the Stores would say No until you showed them the Website ...
So what's the deal in 2013 ?
You have to put a 4G phone on a 4G plan but it doesnt matter which plan $50 or $60
But is it still 4G LTE for voice? Once you have a VoLTE capable phone & in a 4G area & on the 4G plan since your required to have one then you'll get Voice over LTE

Thanks. So if someone buys new 4 G Phone and Plan after Jan 3 2013 it's $50 or $60 Plan Only for 4 G.
IF I upgrade to a Galaxy S3 from the Motion, will they allow me to stay on current 4 G Promo
, or since a new activation required would Grandfathered Promo Plan disappear ?

looks like they're going back to the old rates before the $70 plan was introduced as far as 4G.
Yes and they are
1) Ending Unlimited $55 4G promo .
2)Ending the $30 4G 250 meg promo.
3) Ending the $40 4G 250 meg Plan.
So no more 4G except on $50 and $60 Plans
Unless you are "grandfathered in " on an Existing Plan- still honored.
Question - if I try to switch to $30 Promo -and pay Activation Fee, using same # and device, would the System recognize the serial # and not allow it ?

I say try it and let us know how it works out. If it doesn't work, then you only lose $10. But if it Does work, then you will save $10 every month from now on.

Local Dealer was not sure.....
in order to downgrade ANY plan to the $304G you MUST purchase a NEW 4Gdevice. example: existing phone:esteem plan:$504G, to downgrade your plan u must BUY A NEW 4G phone and pay the $10 promo fee.
it can be changed without paying a thing but its against the promo rules. lol nothing happens if changed, meaning they dont change it back. u just gotta know a guy whose willing to do it...

Jesus man! You're hurting my brain with all this nonsense. Go try to activate your current phone Already, and stop trying to convince us. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. We can't tell you if there is some kind of back door because we don't know.
If you really really want the $30 plan on your old phone so bad, do this:
Buy a new LG Motion 4G (they are in very high demand), pay the $10 fee, and get the $30 service with your old number.
Tell the clerk to be very careful and you don't want to remove any of the plastic or anything on the device.
After you have the new phone, immediately tell them you want to switch the service back to your old phone. Bingo!
Advertise the new LG Motion 4G on craigslist as "Brand New, never used". Sell it for $20 less than you paid.
In total it should cost you prolly about $40, but you'll have your old phone on the new plan. After 5 months ($50 savings), the cost for switching plans will make up your losses.
PS.
If you're old phone doesn't support 4G LTE, then I may recommend keeping the LG Motion 4G and selling your old phone. The $30 plan supports 4G LTE phones, and you might as well take full advantage of it.

@Joshb101 i been told by some other people that i can't do that.. that i have to buy the phone in the store??? I'm confused now O.o.
Where did you get your info from or do you work for metro??
Don't know who has told you, you can't do that, but they're uninformed themselves. I bought 2 Motions for my parents from Wirefly and they then took them into a store and got the $30 plan.
And if the store employee tells you that you need a new number tell them to go read the Terms and Conditions of that plan as it only states you need to be activating a new phone, you can keep your same number.

Sounds sketchy to me, but whether your right or not, I wouldn't risk it.
If I have to go in-store to activate it, why not buy the phone right then also? I wouldn't risk buying a phone online, and having it delivered, only to get down to the store and have some stupid clerk say "Sorry we can't do that".
For me it wouldn't be worth it to try and "debate" TOC with the clerk, because we all know that most of those employees are pretty ignorant on these types of things. Besides that, there's little time left in this month. I'd just get it same day from the store.
@robertkoa
Hey no problem, I'm actually very curious to hear how things go with your service. Be sure to follow up with us.
Its not "sketchy" its clearly states that's how it works on Metro's website. It only requires a new phone and in-store activation to get the $30 plan. It shouldn't be a big deal at all. The biggest problem people have seemed to have is Metro worker's saying they need to be activating a new number/line instead of keeping their old one which is NOT what Metro says you need.
Honestly if the Metro employees at said store are that dumb, then I wouldn't trust them with anything. Its not like there aren't a billion more Metro stores.
But by all means if you want to be overcharged for a phone, go right ahead.

How do you get a less expensive phone online than in store? Are there special online promotions I don't know about? You have to pay the plan promo and first month fee's no matter where you bought the phone.
