Default Connecting phone to Linux Comp

Ok, so I "upgraded" my computer to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from Windows 7. When I connect my phone, in internet mode, the computer sees it as a CDMA connection. I understand that means the OS knows what it is. Does that also mean I have the adb and all other such drivers I need? What else do I need to do? With Windows, I just download the USB driver from the mfgr website (in my case, LG for my Optimus M+). They don't have a Linux driver. I'm wanting to set up my computer with adb and such so I can do all that I used to be able to do under Windows.

with linux there is no drivers needed, just plug it in and have adb working. however mounting and getting to your sdcard is a lot harder now due to mtp

Oh, I found and installed the forum's mini-sdk. I assume that when I connect, I use the internet connection mode, 'cause it's the one that gives me the debug symbol in the status/notifications bar.
