Default Verizon has $50/month with no contract

and they have the Galaxy S3. So what's the virtue of having MetroPCS instead of Verizon ?

That $50 Plan Is Only For Feature Phones NOT Smartphones. They Have A Prepaid Smartphone Plan That' $80 For Unlimited Calls And Texts And A 2GB Data Cap. The $80 Plan Also Limits You On Which Smartphones You Can Use. You Can Only Use The Samsung Illusion, HTC Rhyme, And The Blackberry Curve 9310.

That's so stupid. Why would anybody do that when they can get Metro and have better phones and cheaper plans.....

One word: Coverage.

I agree for what you get, and the phones you're allowed to use it's a rip off though.

That's the only reason Verizon is able to keep increasing its customer numbers is because of coverage and is the main reason I see people saying why they wont switch away.

It will be interesting to see how things go for Verizon and ATT once Sprint and T-Mobile's infrastructure plans are done in the next couple years.

Chances are they will either expand further or add newer features. I doubt T-Mobile or Sprint will be able to close the gap on the 2 largest cellphone carriers/service providers in the US. Unless they flop like Apple, Microsoft and RIM did when they believed Android wasn't even a competition. LMAO! Android is now the biggest mobile smart OS in the world! Its funny when you read their responses to Android back in 2007 and 2008 and compare to how they are reacting now.

Because some people are hesitant just because metros not one of the top carriers and still think its for poor people or stupid stuff like that.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone where I live who has them nor do I think they have a single store here. Looking at their coverage map, my area isn't a home area, but an extended one. So it looks like they're not a real option where I live.

Having Metropcs instead of Verizone or the robbers Att means I dont have to worry about paying more then what I owe or suppose to pay, when it says 50 dollar I pay flat 50 dollar not a single penny. IN Verizone case all my friends that had that crap paid 300 dollar every month instead of 70 dollar they were promised. In short Metropcs doesn't rip me off neither they f--k with me or my family like Verizone or Att I had to call this thieves everyday when I had them, god those terrible times.

yep, if metro isnt in your area than you simply cant use them.

verizon covers a lot of territory and many people use them because they dont have a choice in that verizon(or ATT) is the only carrier that covers their area.

straight talk is a much cheaper option that runs off of ATT towers but they have their restrictions as well.

Pageplus is a prepaid company that uses the Verizon towers. $55/month would net you unlimited talk text and 2 gb of web. The only drawback is that you are currently allowed tor get data at 3g speeds. Lte phones are allowed with some tinkering

Going off of your "location" being Rochester, NY. T mobile has "excellent" coverage in a large portion of that area with a good amount of "very good" and "good" as well. Still all of which is 4G (HSPA+). I didn't see a non 4G area any where near that area. Assuming you would want to run GSM but if choices are scarce in your area I guess whatever is available is what you gotta run with.

That would mean you could either use T mobile's pre paid options which are pretty good plus their data speeds reach up to 30mbps in good coverage or use Straight Talk which uses T mobile or ATT towers. T mobile is the better choice with ST, I'll explain later.

Being that Tmobile has great coverage in that area I would also assume ATT does as well. But the down side with ATT is that you get pathetic data speeds and great coverage. Data speeds in excellent areas average 3mbps or so. Pathetic when compared to Tmobile.

Also Straight Talk is an option being that they use Tmobile and ATT towers. $45 a month out the door for unlimited everything. People have rumbled about getting throttled at around 2gb with the ATT SIM on ST but with the Tmobile SIM, people have said they have used up to 10Gb's a month with no throttling. I personally was able to go up around 4 with no issues.

After 3 months of testing out every MVNO and pre paid GSM network I could find, I found out that overall Straight Talk is by far the best option. Even though my current $30 5GB plan is amazing, I would rather just pay the $15 extra and not have to think about my minutes each time I do make a call, even though it's not very often. But as far as data speeds vs price per month, Straight Talk can't be touched. There isn't a single pre paid carrier out there that can offer 30mbps for $45 a month. Aint happening. That rivals Verizon's LTE speeds and we know how much they cost.

Hope this info helps you find a carrier in your area.

Here is some links for you

Monthly 4G Prepaid Plans | Compare Prepaid Data Plans | T-Mobile

T mobile "Value" plans,. Great options for CHEAP. Contract though.
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Packages/ValuePackages.aspx?pkgcatid=simonly&line=1

Once again I just wanted to add on to what others have said and explain fully.

And the person above me brought up Page Plus. A dude I work with has the Iphone 4S on Page Plus. Not sure what he pays or how good is service/coverage is but it is an option if they have coverage in your area. Hopefully there will be more LTE/CDMA pre paid carriers in the future cause MVNO's are everywhere. And with Tmobile focusing mainly on their Monthly 4G plans and Value plans more so than their higher priced plans, I think a lot of carriers will start pushing their pre paid options more so than their contract plans. Before long, contract plans will be like pre paid was 5 years ago, scarce. But, The more pre paid carrier options the better.

Getting a "contract" bill is about as bad as getting a bill from Comcast. All these extra garbage charges here and there and a tax for this and a tax for that and women's breat cancer research and 911 and blah blah blah. It's freaking depressing. Verizon is about as bad as Apple. A bunch of theives that don't give a damn about thei customers. At least ATT and Tmobile is focusing more on their pre paid options than their contract options. And they don't have those bogus fees and charges. I'll go without before I sign up for a Verizon contract. Sprint too.

I personally think T mobile will move up once they focus on their pre paid options more so than the contract plans. They destroy ATT with data speeds and plan options. They are the only carrier I would ever think about signing a contract with only because their Value Plans are amazing and there's plenty of choices to choose from. But Sprint also shifting to pre paid options will make it interesting for Verizon. Sooner or later I would assume people will have to wake up and realize they can pay half or more than half off of what they are paying now. Makes no sense to me why someone would pay $100 a month for a damn phone.

Yes, that is correct and I eagerly await the day my verizon contract ends to go that route. Etfs + new phone costs are keeping me put for the time being.

Keep in mind though that we are now the New United States of The Provided For. Many people don't have the intestinal fortitude to actually save up the money for a (non-contract) phone they need. We've had people here getting all moist in their pants 'cause they can get an $500 S3 on the Installment Plan. Brazeelyuns of people still get Hugh Jass tax returns every year (after letting the gubmint keep their money all year interest free) because they are too damned lazy to correct their exemptions and have those $ go into an interest bearing account. You can see it happening right in front of you. The GiveMes elect their I'llGiveYou President and don't even care THEIR taxes go up when he expressly told them they wouldn't. They'll PAY high taxes to be coddled by the Gubmint.

We are the Coneheads, we are from France.

Those same stupid people will still pay $100/month to Verizon as long as they make it super easy to get their next phone and keep them otherwise happy.

You are touching on a subject that I could easily spend months talking about.

Let's just say I agree with you.

Won't be long until the Obama phone comes with a free 100 dollar food stamp voucher.

Well at least you've got time to prepare. Luckily though there's phones like the N4 that are half the price of the Note 2 and Iphone and are beyond amazing for the money. I'm debating on selling my nexus and hopping on the N4 bandwagon.

Honestly speaking if I would travel alot, I would pay $100 (or whatever plan suits me) to Verizon. They have far better coverage than metro.

by travel I mean around the country.

Also don't forget, there are companies which pay for your service because you use it for your job. If I were out of state and because of my crappy service I miss a call of a client with $20000 proposed contract, thats just not worth $30-$40 of savings.

Excellent point and a main one for me having Verizon now.

I don't get around the country near as much as I used to. WIDE coverage isn't so critical for me now.

2 years ago, there were basically no decent Metro phones. Before I re-upped with Vzn I actually tried out (and called Vzn about my reup from) a Virgin Mobile Optimus. (That I could never get a data connection with) The ONLY way they got me to re-up then was to give me $400 cash and a great deal on a new Droid X. Even that took doing bloody battle with them to get.
