Eedeeits.

.... well I was cautious about it, but it was worded that way. Hopefully they will update their website soon enough to indicate what cities BYOD will be available in. If it's up in Tallahasee tomorrow, I would hope they include other cities in Florida. I would hate to see them rolling out the BYOD by area codes in Florida until they reach us down here lol.

Called up a local MetroPCS authorized dealer and they do have the Metro sim card. $10 for the card and $15 for the activation. Might go in today or tomorrow.

The cities section has been removed from the BYOD page.

http://www.metropcs.com/metro/static/genericstaticpage.jsp?title=keepyourphone&int_camp =byod-hp-a2-spot

They had to do something to put out that flaming bag-o-dog-poo I left on their Faceplant front porch yesterday.

Ok. I went to the local store and they had the card, saw it, but two problems. first, they didnt have the cutter to make the card fit in but they were going to get it within the hour. secondly, they told me the phone had to be unlocked. I told them it was a T-mobile galaxy s4 phone paid off but they said it didnt matter. said later on they will get a system to verify the iemi, bu5t they dont have it now. so I hax to call up t-mobile and they are going to unlock it, but it may take up to 24 hours to get tge code. so I guess it will be tomorrow then :/

That sucks :s and I think it's weird that T-Mobile phones has to be unlock, I thought it would be using T-Mobiles network anyways.

Thanks! I made the call to T-mobile, before posting this here, it seems that it was approved to be unlocked, I just would have to wait around 24 hours to get the unlocked code. Through your method it seems that I can unlock it, but not get the unlocked code? From what the MetroPCS employee told me, I had to take the phone unlocked with the unlock code. First time I unlocked a phone so I'm not completely familiar with it but thanks.

considering most metro employees are not going to be familiar with gsm networks and such I would not take anything they say for truth without independent verification.

for example take them your tmobile phone when they ask is it unlocked tell them yes, they put the sim in and it works you know they were talking out their ass, but if it comes up with the lock code screen then oddly it would seem they are correct.

if its unlocked then you just pop a sim in and go, the code is used to unlock teh device. it stays through factory resets odin etc. so use the dialer code and you can enjoy byod today

lol. Yeah I wouldn't take their word for it because they told me to take the phone into a T-mobile store and have it unlocked there, it would be easier done over there than over the phone. They also told me that since I wasn't a T-mobile customer, they probably wouldn't be able to unlock it for free..... I gathered enough info around here to know that I can just call in T-mobile and they would unlock it at no charge and wouldn't you know that it worked out just like that . But since they didn't have those cutters to cut out the sim card, there wasn't much I could do.

I'm pretty sure that it would have worked if they slipped the sim card in, but I guess I'll just walk in with the unlocked phone tomorrow lol.

Oh ok, I see how it works. I really doubt that I'm going to make a second trip to Metro today, but if I have enough time later on to go, then I'll deactivate it this way. Just need to be focused on it not to dial in anything incorrectly .... If not, then I'll go in the morning.

I called T-mobile again to see how the unlock process was going, and they told me sorry but I didn't meet the requirements for having a phone unlocked, I guess since I never used their service ...... anyways, I'm going to try the process you suggested .

I made it to step 6, but there is a slight difference on my phone. It mentions

6. In "NETWORK LOCK", select [3] PERSO SHA256 OFF
It should show:
SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[1]
SHA256_OFF => SHA256_ON

On my phone it comes up as

SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[0]
SHA256_OFF => Not Change

Then for step 7 I click on the first one as it comes up in my phone "SHA256_ENABLED_FLAG[0]" but the current commend is slightly different. My current command is 116630 instead of the 116631 shown in the instructions. It's as if my phone skipped those options and it was at step 8 already. Before moving forward, I would like your advice since you may be familiar with the difference in that. Also, every time I use the back key it just closes the program and I'm back to the dialer. Any other key to press so I won't have to dial in the long code every time? lol

I also should mention that I never inserted the T-Mobile Sim card that came with the phone. Not sure if that card should be inserted to perform these steps?

Thanks.

Wow that was really easy. Easier than calling T-Mobile lol. I went through it all really quickly and then the phone rebooted. Thanks a lot for taking your time to point this out! I'll be off to MetroPCS tomorrow.

I believe the l9 will do HSPA +42 so it will have fast "4G" but no LTE.

I have personally seen 26mbs down with 3mbs up with HSPA + 42 but as usual your results may vary depending on market/signal.

And yes for the metro byod you ideally want to have a device with native 1700/2100 AWS for both HSPA and LTE

The Nexus 4 is one such phone, even though LTE is not officially there.
Another will be the newer t mobile galaxy S3 SGH-T999L the older one the SGH-T999 has the HSPA + but not the LTE.

Google play edition of the Galaxy S 4 also will work well, but unfortunately not the Google play edition HTC ONE.

What do people think about the phone on this website. Its a version of the note 2.

http://www.gsmnation.com/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-i317m-16gb-unlocked-lte-marble-white.html

It looks like it's compatible with metro new network, but I'm not sure metro would accept it.

What do you think?

AT&T version once its unlocked you can get LTE and the HSPA in reframed areas and metro should take it

Any area that has t mobile refarming will get it, but if its a note 2 you can also do a nv mod that will put it on t mobiles HSPA AWS.

Attention for all you "In The Know".

Approximately how long until say Authorized Dealers will begin to get new GSM phones?

I have said it before and it needs repeating now.

I NEED to see two similar phones in specs, one on Metro CDMA and the other on GSM.

What about corporate stores?

I think our Slocala stores are way down on the supply teat.

No, I'm not changing phones anytime soon. I'm just REALLY curious.

'Sides, I have my Motion to sell before I get to the Spirit for sale. (And that needs to happen Soon.)

One of the reasons I signed on with Metro when I did was to get in on the last hours of the $55 plan. I am in no hurry to pay $60 More A Year for "the same plan".

I have said before that I laugh at how data speeds are so much, "mine is bigger than yours". I mean it. Right now I'm getting consistent 4-6s. That does everything I need a signal to do.

My Spirit too does everything I need it too. Even my second choice of case and screen protectors works for me. There's just no need for me to fixed something that ain't broke. Of course, that still doesn't mean I'm not curious and want to see the two different networks at work. When you take my rebate and the $80 my Droid X's got me, my Spirit ended up costing me $80. If I use it for a year (sometime after the end of this one) $80 for a years usage on this nice of a phone is an OK deal for me.

If I absolutely HAD TO get a new phone Right Now, I'd do whatever it took to come as close to $300 as I could for a GSM S3.

actually he is right. his $55 plan is a grandfathered plan that should be the exact same as the current $60 plan.

I have one that is $40 but i get the same unlimited no throttling as the $60 plan.

I have been a big supporter of the GSM switch but I can not see paying $240 per year more just to keep the same service i already have.

That being said t mo service will get you several more mbps over the equivalent metro phone.

I thought it was implied CDMA network to gsm if we are talking metro gsm to tmo that does not apply

So glad you think so, to me ferrying that vs gsm lte s3 is a vote with my wallet.
On a unrelated note don't ever vote with an empty wallet learned that the hard way

Yup, especially jumping from a 3G phone .... Walked in and I was the first customer to ask for the program. She didn't really know to much about it, but I helped her with what I could. Successful activation so I'm ..... In my home I'm averaging between 6 and 9 mbps.

Nope, no other fee. Just $10 for the sim and $15 for activation and I was ready to go. No other hidden fees to worry about.

If you switch phones, you have to go back to the store. Will you have to pay anything every time. (Like if you have 2 gsm phones)
