To get a fully compatible BYOD these are the bands it should have.
LTE - 1700/2100 (AWS)

HSPA+ | 1700/2100 (AWS), in some areas where they have refarmed the network 1900MHz (PCS) will be compatible. See below for list of refarmed areas.

GSM | 1900MHz (PCS)

List of refarmed areas as of 3/15:

Even the ones on the metro website aren't fully compatible, if unsure post here and we'll all be happy to help

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 waiting to bring over to Metro PCS once I can do the BYOP. Will the phone's connectivity be just as good as the T-Mobile/Metro PCS version? Specs - AT&T Cell Phones SGH-I337 | Samsung Cell Phones

You would be able to get LTE and HSPA. HSPA would only be in refarmed areas though. Only difference is metro version gets HSPA everywhere available

As soon as they expand the metro BYOD to Miami You will be able to get HSPA+ and LTE, through tmo towers and network.

Sometime this week I am going to take my unlocked samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket 4g to a mom and pop metro store in many area. (Atlanta Market). I was wondering weekday do you pay up front. Iknow $10 for the SIM. $15 for activation fee. And I heard something about having to pay for your first month of service. But does paying the first month's service apply to current metropcd customer or my customers?

Oh then no you don't have to pay the whole months bill but if you go from like a $55 plan to $60 you'll have to pay $5

That phone has LTE in the AWS band 4 but it does not have HSPA + in band 4.
It looks like Atlanta Ga is in the refarmed market though so you should get HSPA on 1900.
It may not depending on your exact location though.

So you may be on edge at times.

So what specifics do we know to be factual? Moving sim from phone to phone, which lte is used, etc....

I know this stuff was discussed but it's buried in the other thread. Maybe have a fact section in the OP for the stuff mpcs doesn't tell you and people always ask about.

Keep up the good work G. You've offered a lot of knowledge for everyone.

Funny... last night I didn't completely lose service, but it dropped from full service of 3G to 2 bars of 1x. Thought it was just because of my house. Maybe it's the HSPA+ switch?

Keep in mind that your area is one of the "testing" sites for the t-mobile/metro pcs merger (I guess). If you happen to have a unlocked GSM phone, they can work on metro now!

HSPA would have nothing to do with his CDMA since its already fully rolled out for the moment and he doesn't have an HSPA phone(Spirit) if he just lost LTE that would be a different story

Be better to get an unlocked tmo one but if you want the Nexus edition one you just would get HSPA in refarmed areas only. You would get LTE though

theres no reason why a metro byod phone wouldnt work in normal metro covered areas. think about it it would suck if you could only use those phones in those 4 cities only. theres tons of loop holes here. starting off like getting ahold of the new sim cards like i did and should get in the mail this week sometime then having the dealer activate them. now i would have to further test some theories of mine like could i pass on my number/account on to that sim? also what wasn't shared yet is that metro has micro sim and the normal sim so if u guys planning in getting one i would get both since if ur planning to be getting tmo or at&t phones to be used on the byod sticking to one phone for too long will be a challenge.

All are the same price and an adapter kit for all 3 is like 2.99 but initially micro was on iPhone only but if I was to do BYOD that's the way I would do it.

Yes, metro will need metro sim, the sim card will have the network information, and how to bill it depending on that info.
Just like Straight talk, simple mobile and others all have their own sim that runs on tmo networks.

I know micro were only on iphones and nano could be the next micro, which is why the (Yet)
I really dont understand the decrease in sim size, the gold contact area is the same so now the nano is all contact area with no "buffer" around it. and it just makes it harder for users to do things with them.
I know micro will work just fine in normal sim spots even without adapters you just have to position the contacts correctly I have done is several times, adapters would be helpful though. lol

I've been having the lg motion for a while, if I get an htc one, unlock it, and take it to mpcs for the byod, will the lte differ from my lg motion?

A few things.

1. The only HTC One worth getting is the Tmobile version, neither the AT&T or Playstore version have the 1700 HSPA band, though it will have the 1700 for LTE.
And the tmo version will not need to be unlocked, it will be running on tmo towers.
2. Tmo HSPA is faster then metro LTE and tmo LTE is faster yet However it will depend on where you live some areas the tmo coverage is not as good and so it would not be worthwhile to switch.

Dallas has spotty LTE from tmo from what I hear, but with improvements to a brand new system continuing I suspect by the end of the year it will be better.

Oh, and is the htc one from TMobile, the only phone that doesn't have to be unlocked, or is it the same deal with the rest of TMobile phones?

Default Metro 4g - BYOD device question

HI I would like to know if an at&t version of the Samsung galaxy note would be fully compatible with metro's network, as long as the phone is unlocked of course.

Thanks.

So , if I'm in a reframed area, I would still have HSPA access, not LTE?

You should be able to get an LTE signal everywhere theres an LTE signal.

On HSPA you'd only get it in refarmed areas
