Idk pappy...perhaps I need to tweak the installer script to do something more??
I'm not familiar with scripts so I could use some help with that from someone who is more knowledgable.

I simply can't explain why Secmms would disappear like it has for some.

Yes. It also comes in handy when you're texting someone that has to pay extra - i.e. - no unlimited plan with texts. (yes, I know... rare these days)

It also means people will get your texts even when they're in an area without Mobile Data or Wi-Fi - whether it's unlimited for them or not. (When I'm out and about, I run into that more often than not)

It's just my opinion, but I really think Metro should have considered that prior to releasing the phone... it would have been a nice "selling" point for their service, if you stop and think about it.

That's right. Good points. Split texts will still go through, even on the slowest bands (1g?? ) without a WiFi, 4g, or even 3g connnection... an mms won't.

imSHAD and most recently Shabby pointed out that you should be looking for Secmms.apk and not Mms.apk...so there's that.

Thanks for that gentlemen

I'd like to get a tally of how many people have it working? Let me know what rom version and mod version ur using?

This is great, thanks a lot! I've always been annoyed by the MMS conversion. There is one problem, though: the conversations seem to appear out of order. In other words, if I send someone a text and that person replies back, that person's response will appear before the text I had sent. Unless, of course, it was meant to be this way? Anyway, thanks again!

I could be wrong but i think thats just how it is. When it splits the message...it starts from the last thing you type, counts x many characters back from that, splits and sends that piece. It does this till it reaches the beginning of the text and sends the last piece. So they end up responding to the last thing you type, before they get the beginning.

Glad that you like it! Glad its working for you! If you please, what rom are you running?

Okay, update (v2.0 lol)

If you read my last post concerning the SecMms.apk, I installed Metropolis 1.2.0 and deleted SuperSU, but only AFTER installing Superuser... I've since rebooted many times, in an effort to re-create the problem, but have not had the same loss of Root issue (and failure of the new SecMms.apk) that I had before.

Barring further testing, I can only assume at this point that the problem was with SuperSU... hopefully I won't eat my words later, but that's what it looks like at this point.
Can someone else please try this for me?

1. Install Metropolis 1.2.0 (a CLEAN install, of course), and then boot into the ROM
2. Go to Play Store and download the free version of Superuser. Open and update it's Binary.
3. Go into SuperSU and select "Settings", then scroll down to "Switch superuser app". That gets rid of it. Do that, and then reboot.
4. Go back into your recovery, and then flash the mms test.zip
3. Reboot and try it out.

Please report your findings.
Thanks guys.

I noticed that too, but I'd like to find out what's keeping the thing from being 100% stable ATM... the message order sequence will be the next issue to work out after we get it working 100%.
It's kinda like making a cart that just rolls first - before giving it independent four-wheel suspension. lol

And on that note - great job ARocker! It's getting there bro!

There's not much more tweaking to be done with the mod. Seems that getting it to work depends mostly on how you install it.

It works with stock deodexed, Metropolis and #2.
It should also work with stock odex provided you delete the secmms.odex file but I have not tested.

Most reliable way to install is to start with a new base. Factory reset, then flash the rom, then flash the mod. Barring any flash gremlins that happen from time to time that should get you working.

Can you not find it in the system/app folder? Try following the method I used in the post above.

Also if you are restoring data with twrp or Titanium backup it may cause an issue.

Could be a bad download...try downloading the mod again.

I don't believe its a bug or issue...I think that's just how it works. Ill keep my eyes open for a mod that changes that.

This is what I wrote about it.

Also tried going through to Secmms of the zip through a file explorer a install it as a normal apk... wouldnt install

Just a thought here but could it possibly be the kernel?

Maybe a fresh install works becuase we're going to stock kernel. (im on leankernel now)

And as much as I want to use this mod. Im just not in the fresh install mood lol. Sorry about that.

EDIT: forgot to mention using metropolis 1.2

Someone should try adding the SecMMS.apk to the ROM before flashing it. Basically unzipping the ROM switching apks and then zippjng it back. With win rar you can just throw it in the right folder while its zipped and it will only replace the apk file. Just throwing ideas out there

*cough* added it to the next version of metropolis *cough*

The crazy thing is...I have yet to experience one of these disappearing apk issues and Ive flashed this mod so many times. I flash all the time to test all kinds of stuff cause i dont like pushing files via adb. I rarely actually wipe dalvic when I flash and I almost never have an issue.

I've noticed that this happens with roms like the new mc3 sprint leak, wisenheimer rom, hyperrom which require you to install a custom kernel to work on our phone and you guys on #2 i think all have lean kernel. Perhaps it IS a kernel issue?

This is what I'm thinking peeps...
With goodness rom there is a process that needs to be followed to install correctly. The same with the mc3 leak, wisenheimer rom, chemistry rom ect.

Factory reset, flash rom, immediately flash a patch, then immediately flash the kernel. Try using this process but flash the mod right after the patch, then flash the kernel. See if that works.

For #2, treat the mod as you would the patch for those other roms. Factory reset, flash the rom with stock kernel, then the mod. Let it boot up and check to see that secmms is there. Then flash lean kernel and see how that goes.

I know its a hassle loosing ur data every time.

I appreciate all your help :b eer:

Thanks for your input.
There doesn't seem to be an issue with Metropolis rom. Must be the superior scripts

more likely the kernel lol

This what I thought theenextkb24 meant about the text sequence being out of order. (At least, this is what I found strange)

Could it be related to the text showing the time it was sent, instead of received?

If you'll notice Test #2 - yes, I have invented a Time Machine, and no - you can't have the plans to build your own. Although, I WILL sell them - for only $19.95 + shipping and handling.

BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE!

in the meantime anyone wanna use this?

GroupMessagingSecMMS.apk

nothing special just something i put together, i took the app from Hyperdrive ROM and put it in a flashable zip. it has group messaging! which is all I'm looking for and i can confirm it works in Metropolis and i assume it should work on any touchwiz rom

EDIT: so group messaging doesn't work correctly..... i might be going back to AOSP roms

You didn't mention whether you factory reset before flashing?
Also, check permissions?

nothing special just something i put together, i took the app from Hyperdrive ROM and put it in a flashable zip. it has group messaging! which is all I'm looking for and i can confirm it works in Metropolis and i assume it should work on any touchwiz rom

EDIT: so group messaging doesn't work correctly..... i might be going back to AOSP roms
I'm looking at your script from the file you posted...to see what differences there might be.

First, I see that your script mounts and wipes cache and dalvik...mine doesn't.

Yours mounts /system in a different way too...

Lastly, the script I'm using fixes permissions at the end...yours doesn't.

I'm thinking of experimenting with the script a bit, but fact is some, including myself, have flashed the mod as it is with no issue.

Ill let you if you change the name of the rom to #ARocker Rom

Of course you can LD!
Probably the best way to avoid the flashing issues some have faced.

lol well hold on now.. #2 is my thing!!! hahaha, but yeah flashing apps AFTER a rom can sometimes be a PITA.. same ordeal I went through w/ that stupid "Rom Customizer" idea I had lol.. the idea was good and somewhat understandable, but without proper permissions for some/most apps, it just gets badd.. the app WILL be in the system/app directory, but the size will be 0.0kb and it wont exist in app drawer lol so that was like a week long head-ache trying to figure out WHYYYY!!!??? but then I realeized it's permissions etc...

honestly im not too fond of the whole aroma thing... but it's just sooo convenient to actually have the options of which stock apps to install, and makes life easier not making extra flash packs lol but with aroma you need to mount and unmounts partition to do certain things etcc.. lol it's really easy to get a grasp on how it works.. but it's also really easy to mess shit up and break things hahaha

but regardless... this is all a hobby and it's fun to accomplish these little things lol, great job with this mod btw credit will be given after I do some testin of my own LOLOL

between me and who-ever reads this.. I want yu to know I haven't yet put ANYTHING on this device except for the TW stock/based roms lol, nothing personal but im just alwayssss trying to test new things (for stock) etc.. this my first device with anything over 2.3.. so im still learning as I go

I appreciate and agree with you on all points LD.

Thanks for confirming that permissions could be the issue.

Definitely recommend testing. I don't know for a fact that all features are working as I haven't tested all of them. For instance, I haven't actually tried to save and restore messages but I see that the option is there and doesn't fc when clicking it.

I don't use the mod cause I have no service on the phone and don't message.

Which version of the mod are you going with? Splits or no splits?

not sure yet.. lol I would love having my txts not split because sometimes people don't even get them, or get it hours later when I send those big ones with data enabled.. so I just stop typing when I have like 1 letter left lol, but on the other side of that... there's a chance having them be huge sms it may have issues with other types of receiving devices whether it be service provider, phone model etc... could be trouble down the road.. so ill probly do some testing of my own before deciding

or ill jus throw em both in the aroma portion to offer the selection to those who want the option of the two... if yu was cool with it

When I said clean install, I'm saying I wiped factory reset, dalvik, cache, and system. I fixed permissions after flashing but I didnt check permission when I had it under /system/app

I'm gonna give it one last try or I'm switching to AOSP lol

Using splits, I can confirm (on Metro 1.2) that the Volume Key text size, and the Backup/Restore messages functions work well.
I don't know about this latest version on ld's #2 yet, but I'll test it too soon.... I've been trying to break it on Metro 1.2, and so far the only way I've been able to, was to theme the ROM. (not really an issue for me anyway, because the only theme I like on TW, is Wasabi's "Black Pearl")

BTW - idk if my first dl was bad (the original test model) or if you changed something, because since using the latest one posted on the OP, I've had zero issues... but then again, I've also stopped using SuperSU. (It was causing various other issues for me prior to these tests)
So...

Anywho, so far, everything I've tested since works fine. Now... if I can just figure out how to turn off the Time Machine. lol

~Update;

Can't test it on #2 v1.03.... after many attempts, it hangs while Aroma loads... and just sit there, requiring a battery pull.
Oh well...

Great work pappy. Thanks much!

I also had the aroma installer freezing in twrp. I didnt mention it because i think it was because I wiped system before it happened? After a battery pull and restoring system from backup, it ran. Could be a coincidence? I'm not sure.

Sorry for the late reply... again. lol

I just got back from the Hospital... had to welcome my 4th Grandchild into the world - it's a boy! 7lbs, 10oz (my first Grandson! - 11:47pm, 4/20)

(now ya know why they call me Pappy. lol)

Anywho, I dl'd #2 v1.03 three times, and tried them all - same result. Man, I'm almost convinced my phone is screwy.
But you know how it goes... how the same ROM/FW can act differently sometimes on the same model phone.
Not quite as bad as the old LG Esteem, but still... just goes to show how "Ghost-in-the-Machine" works sometimes. lol

Congrats Pappy!

Have you been wiping system? If you have try not. Think that's how I did it. Just restore only the system from a tw backup n try the rom again if you like.

Thank you!

Yes, I've been wiping everything - System, Cache and Dalvik... including Factory Reset.
I'll give it a try, but I gotta go back to the Hospital again today, so it may be a while before I'm able. (phone's been ringing off the hook. lol)

This didn't want to work for me either. I am trying a few things again to see if I can get it to work. I had to use restore as my messaging app was missing. I was on metropolis.
