They,re moved to sdx/zip on the sd card when installed via recovery. You can delete them with any file management program like Astro, root explorer, etc.

Seems like a new 1.8.x is being released every two days. Here's what I feel, if you have a ROM that's stable and working 90-95% of the time, just leave it there. The incremental benefits are not worth the trouble dealing with unknowns in a new ROM. Some apps/features, though nice and cool, were never meant for the Moment and it seems these along with hardware limitations are the culprits behind the phone acting up. For me the Amstel 2.0 ROM will be the base ROM for a long time.
hey guys would it hurt anything to remove the moxier mail and estrong security apk before install . currently running the amstel v2 and think of trying one of the radioactive 1.8.x roms . have had 3 reboots a day for the past three days so far mostly when using handcent . tried un-install and re- install but still doing it.
also ive used the sdx recovery . so can i just apply to sd and boot from sd with out wipeing the phone .or will i need to reflash .
want it to be as easy as pie. im a newby and dont want the headache i had before from the 1st flash.
1.8.20 is up. Word of warning, though noobnl's listing this as "stable", it's was the least stable rom I've ever used. More reboots than not, the first airplane mode since swapping my phone, FC's in bunches and the power button stopped turning the phone off (2nd time for that). That was after I flashed back to stock. It could just be something I did wrong or my particular phone, but I'd have a solid back up to flash to if I were you If you want to give this a spin. I actually had a reboot during a phone call that maintained the call for about 30sec or so after I saw the boot loader graphic. I'm happily back to my custom non jit system!
1.8.22 is out for a little more than a day or so. It's receiving glowing reviews so far. No reboots claimed by more than a few people. Anyone tried yet? I'm not really one that jumps on every new version of these things so anyone care to test it out?
What's new on this version?I have been using version 1.87 for a couple of months now and it has been great overall. Is it worth it updating or should I stick to the quote if ain't broken don't fix it?Thx!
can i apply this over my existing rom. rooted already or do i need to reflash. then install through recovery. running amstel
I am sure you could, but I would recommend going back to DE03 Tar and recovery from the Sprint Updater. Then booting recovery and flashing 1.8.22. This would give you the best performance with the least amount of issues. Just my opinion.
just put on 1.8.22 coming from 1.6.5 ( i know, big jump, but i really like 1.6.5 so i went back after trying his other versions)
anyways, just ran linpack and on 1.6.5, was averagin in the 8's, almost 9. now i'm getting around 4.6 on average. is my phone really this much slower?
edit:
actually, i just manually rebooted 5 times, just to be safe. and ran linpack again, and back up into the 8. range. and so far, the rom is nice, although, don't notice anything that different from 6.5 .

just did the same noticed the same thing . came from amstel where is was getting 4.6 on link pak.now im at 3.9 but have yet to have reboots like i did after opening center apps.

I don't know or much care about linpack scores, but no problem removing Moxier or file viewer.
Followed steps in Post #46. When I boot into recovery and select apply sdcard:update.zip I don't get the opportunity to select the zip file, it just automatically states:
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Any help is appreciated.
BTW, the zip file version is noobnl-Radioactive-FroYo-romv1.8.7

I helped a guy a couple of weeks ago and he was having same issue. He was using Win 7 and winrar. NOt sure why, but to fix his problem he had to use a xp machine and 7zip. Not sure if it will your problem or not. Just thought I would throw that out there.
If this doesn't fix it, what recovery are you using?

Thank you so much forty9er!!! I changed my recovery program to the one from the JoeyKrim Rootpack I had on file and that did it. I didn't think of it until you asked about which recovery I was using and I thought, "Hmmm, I'm not sure".
Thank you! I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm just following things from the forums. Ta Da! You guys have all helped me so much!
Now, I just hope I get better battery usage! We'll see...
Yeah, thanks pasta for all you've done on this site. I'm also EXTREMELY new to rooting, and after a little trial and error (and your helpful posts) I'm now rooted, running 1.8.22, and LOVING THIS PHONE AGAIN. This makes waiting for my upgrade renewal (November) a lot more bearable.

I am new to rooting phones. Where can I go to learn more about rooting the moment? I read this info on here but since I am a noobie, it is mostly over my head. I need like a step by step everything list.... explanation to things and what all is needed.
If you root is the operation of the phone basically the same or is it like a Frankenstein phone and you don't know what will happen.
Thanks for any help... You can contact me by message or email or on here. I dl the radioactive Froyo 1.8 but was afraid to continue with it. Was afraid I would totally destroy my phone. I have 2.1 update 1, s:m900.8.os.de03.....kernal 2.6.29....build eclair.d106.... whatever all that means. Thanks again.
Try this howto -- down to where it says "install root v7". Instead you will use the radioactive froyo file, but the process is the same.
There are a bunch more howto's for the moment here.
In short, you run the sprint updater app (version D03) from your computer and follow the instructions. Then replace a .tar file in the installer (see instructions above for exact path) which will give you root access ("rooting" the phone).
Now the phone is rooted and will appear completely stock. The difference is that now you can install a custom ROM.
After installing and booting into radioactive froyo, everything will look the same except for minor differences - the sprint apps (tv, nascar, nfl, etc...) are gone and the phone should run much faster.
Try running the benchmark app 'linpack' before and after to see the difference.

I guess this is the right place to put this.... I followed the instructions and got to the part where I click 'start software download' and I get a message saying 'cannot open bin file'. I even tried searching the forum for 'bin file' and 'bin' and came up with no matches.
I didn't do anything but remove the original file from the models/binary folder and replace it with the .tar file... Hopefully somebody can help a brutha out.
**edit**
NVM... I think I got it, I forgot to run the update patch... All is good now.. I'm now about to put that zip file on my SD card and see what happens... Things are going good so far.

I have a question for all the very smart Moment people... I received my new moment today (my other was acting up) and ofcourse my phone actually came with Build number Eclair.D106 and Baseband D106. I really want to root again however I keep reading about going to DE03 and going from there..
How do I get DE03 back? Do I download from sprint (sprint updater and then patch it) .. I'm so freakin' confused. I am wanting to root and then add Radioactive Froyo 1.9.2. I know the steps.. I'm just stuck on the initial process with the D106.
I've done research over at SDX but I don't have a step by step process on how to go about this. I really don't wanna fry my phone since I just got another today. Thanks!
I also would like to add that I downloaded the newest SWupgrade_lite the other day and I am now stuck with that.

I guess my problem is I swear I read at SDX that there is a problem with the new D106 not accepting .tar files. It's like I am reading post after post at SDX with people who are already rooted prior to the D106.
I literally have everything D106. I mean stock D106 and I d./l the update tool from Sprint last this morning to find it being SamsungDL LITE. If I just add that new .tar file will everything work correctly. I get so confused by all these different versions and .tars. I started to get real good with rooting and then Sprint updates stuff and changes things. I know the last update indeed breaks root. AHHHH!
@Cephraim - I kept getting popups and ignored them but then I got a new refurb so I started from scratch.
For those of you stuck like I was -
I started from stock de03 with 3.1.1 recovery.
Cleared Dalvik Cache and installed 1.8.2.2 to trigger the D106 update. To get the update going.... I went to update Profile>PRL>Firmware in that order (not sure it matters) and after 2 times of it saying No update needed the Firmware finally a popup came and I accepted it. After update it will reboot and install the the baseband D106 but this is the first part of the update (not the build)
To get second part of D106 update:
I then went to boot into recovery and cleared dalvik cache and added 1.9.2 radioactive froyo which is the rest of the update needed for d106. (My understanding is that v1.9.0 and above included second part of D106) Once the phone boots up completely a popup will ask you again to update. Just click install later. It will ask you this quite a few times on reboots but then stops asking (it took me 4-5 reboots for popup to stop).
V.1.9.2 is stable imo however I do have a problem when rebooting where sprint logo/android logo collide until boot. It's a known issue and I am just dealing with it for now until it's fixed. There is a new version V.1.9.3 that I have yet to install.
I was using v.1.8.22 prior to knowing what would happen I installed the update but it only installs the first part and errors when it reboots. I would recommend a clean install and do the steps above I said. The folks at SDX are really helpful!
I hope I explained this clearly as I am not good a explaining things well. I just know what I did to get my phone back to Radioactive Froyo v.1.9.2 with D106 update fully installed. Baseband D106 and Build D106. =)
Also, if this is a pain in the rear... Maybe stick with V.1.8.2.2 or below and avoid pop-up completely by hitting install later.... It's up to you.

quik question...I was reading through..im such a noob at rooting still..although my phone is rooted i followed a step by step guide on youtube, and im running ultimate dream 5.0..but my question is..How do i switch over to another rom after being rooted already? like i really want to try this radioactive froyo i hear alot about..but i'm not sure as to what to do now to switch to a different rom? is there a step by step guide to show me what to do? thanks
Your best bet is to start from scratch especially since you are running Ultimate Dream. I always start from scratch. Follow this Simple Root instructions to get De03.
Then you can follow my post #237 above if you would like to run Radioactive Froyo 1.9.0 or above with the newest D106 update (for aiplane mode) .. If you don't care about the update D106 then you can actually use Radioactive Froyo 1.8.2.2 which you can get this at SDX. The thing is.. with 1.8.2.2 you will get a occasional pop-up which will tell you to update to D106 and it can be annoying.
I recommend starting from scratch. Again, this is what I would do but I usually take the long way but I like to have a clean rom.
wait..so i have to install froyo 1.8.2.2 FIRST? and then whichever froyo i want? i cant just go straight to 1.9.0 and up?
no, you can go straight to 1.9.3 (which is the latest version) and it should work as long as you install correctly. I would however also start from scratch if you're not coming from a previous version of noobnl's rom
ok im gonna try it..basicaly i'm gonna flash my phone using the samsung update but with the file in the binary folder..after that just save the froyo rom on my sd card and open my phone in safe mode and install it from there correct?
Your best bet is to start from scratch especially since you are running Ultimate Dream. I always start from scratch. Follow this Simple Root instructions to get De03.
I was about to begin the root process and noticed the link for the updater in step 1 of the simple root instructions is broke.
I'm not sure if you got it working however I just checked the Simple Root Instructions and all files are working (downloading) I am not sure why it wasn't working on your end. Also, you will need to sign up over at SDX when you follow the path for the De03 file connected to the simple root instructions. http://androidforums.com/moment-all-things-root/163034-simple-root-instructions.html
Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to post #10 in the the link I highlighted. User momentandroid said they had a simpler method. Link #1 in his post did not work.
Nevermind i got it working...froyo 1.8.22 only thing now is that there is an update today for the samsung moment to fix the datalock..how do i go about that???
