I did it! I flashed my Moment successfully. I followed the recipe at the beginning of this thread, however there are a couple of extra things I had to do to be successful.
1. Install Samsung PC Studio...NOT New PC Studio (according to Zefie)
2. And here was the biggie for me; you have to SHUT FIREFOX! I had it open so that I could read the directions.
So--that it! Put in Sam PC Studio and shut off Firefox and followed the instructions top of this thread and all went perfect. Took about 45 seconds! Thanks for all the invaluable help from you guys!! Thanks to you...I am now a flasher

Anyone else's phone die within 5 minutes of getting the red battery with the slash through it with the custom kernel?
I actually only get 5 minutes if the phone is sitting on the desk. If I'm on a call I've got 30 seconds to find a charger after the first low battery warning beep before the phone hangs up and shuts down. Boo.

It is either that, or i "fix it" and go back to the long long time at 15% It is impossible without knowing what they did to the OS and Kernel in cl14 to reprogram the meter correctly.. So pester samsung to release it opensource! (since they legally have to)
I know lots of chicks that are good at pestering... I'll tell them to do it :P
All females get that skill upon their arrival to adulthood. It's the reason the law recognizes 18 as an adult but not 17 yrs, 364 days. The programming is done the last night of their childhood.

Man. Today I finally got to see what a difference this made. I took my phone off charge around lunch. Spare parts shows its been running (awake) 64% since then, its 9:30 now and I have 30% battery left. Before the update I would have been dead hours ago at that awake percentage.
i have the same problem on my asus netbook... i dragged the odin window as high as i could... removed the title bar... dragged it up a little further and was able to click the corner of the one package box.
currently having the same problem as you guys.. only (and this makes me feel like a super noob) I can't figure out how to remove the title bar for odin. How do you do that?

oh, we removed/reduced the windows (not the odin) start bar (on the bottom) and were able to click the top part of the "one package" box (to select the tar file). hope that helps...

Still not quite enough space.. it only gets down to about midway through the button before. The one I have to hit. It's extra frustrating because I can rightclick the title bar and slide the whole window around with the move option, but as soon as I left click or nudge the mouse at all, the window snaps back onscreen
Move odin as high as u can, right click on desktop and open properties. Click on appearance then advanced or "custom" or something like that. Pick "active window title bar" from the drop down menu. Reduce the size by at least 5. Click Apply, click ok.
You have to undo this when finished in order to close odin.
problem is, i use a mac. what should i use? plz help, i hate having the meter read 15% and not being able to use the backlight on my keypad.
thanks
There is a thread about getting Odin to work on Linux but there is a single post by Zefie which states mac's would need to use bootcamp for Odin to work on them and that Virtual machines haven't seem to run Odin either.

well i don't have bootcamp, nor do i know how to run it...damnit i really wanted to fix this. is there a way to turn off the powersaving feature once it hits 15%, that's the only reason i want it. I want to be able to have brightness, keypad backlight, etc, since it stays at 15% for a long time (its actually around 50%).
and thats what i get everytime. where it used to say "detected" on the top left, it just says start. idk how to make it start!...im so confused...some one please reply quick, b/c i can't turn my phone on, and i don't want to reset it, i just wanna finish doing this. please someone help.
Is the phone still in download mode? If so, pull the battery and replace it and start it up normally to make sure it will start.
Try rebooting it, and making sure you have all three boxes checked in odin....then be sure moment.ops is loading as well.
Thats about all I can think of. Hope it helps.
Also, be sure firefox and pc studio aren't running. pc studio could be running in your task bar.
yes i did all that, but none of that was the issue, i found the solution.
Zefie has his own little page explaining what to download when u have been updated by sprint. I had to use odin 4.03 instead and go back to CJ05 and then use HIS file to update to CL14 and then use a patchoob version of ZE9.2 or w/e.
i was wondering what the difference in the regular and patchoob versions were. so, since i never went to the store, i can just load his custom roms straight up and not worry about the patchoob versions. cool.

patchoob is only if you get the sprint "official" update.. they stick the cl14 SBL which you have to remove via flashing back in odin 4.03... something happens tho where odin 4.03 doesn't inject the oob data back in so you have to flash with a kernel that has the oob injected already in it...
Hi I also have this issue. I've tried on a few pc's and laptops and it stops at that point for 20 mins+. Also when I try to turn on the phone I just get a screen with "Samsung" a phone icon and a computer icon, can someone tell me how I might go about fixing this issue?
So I am having an issue - I had the stock Sprint CJ05 with CL14 loaded from Zefie's site.... then I went and ran the ZE10.2 kernel update, and now my phone says the brightness failed to start and my camera doesn't work....
Should I try reapplying the kernel? Should I go back to stock and then try again?

make sure when you flash you use odin 4.03 to flash back to CJ05...and then from there install the patchoob versions. I'm guessing you had the sprint update as well. That update prevents you from flashing using the regular kernels. So, make sure you flash back to the CJ05
basically follow this guide, it should help you figure everything out and get everything working:

oh and when u get that logo of the conecting phone and computer, just take your batter out, put it back in, and hold down the volume down button, the camera button, and the red end button until you see the "downloading" screen again.
i actually have a question of my own, is anyone else having problems witht the new kernels? Does the screen, when using the internet browser or something uses internet, flash sudden lines across the screen? mine does that sometimes, was wondering if there was a fix for this.

Well, I had already flashed with "CL14_STOCK_FIXED_with_CJ05_SBL" and then tried flashing to the new ZE10.2. It worked, but since then I have had nothing but issues with the camera (which won't work) and other errors with brightness, etc.

well did you remove any applications? if you removed brightness.apk or camera.apk it would be causing the problem
on occasion a bad flash can occur, perhaps try flashing the files again but ive never heard of this problem. sounds kind of odd. i would think its related to either 3rd party apps, a bad flash or apps you removed.
if you wanted to go back to *stock* or wipe the phone, flash the cl14 system with cj05 sbl file. it'll clear the data and put it back to default with the latest stock updates.
then you can flash the ze10.2 kernel to get root access and remove stock sprint apps if you want.

Yeah - I had started again with stock ["CL14_STOCK_FIXED_with_CJ05_SBL"] and then went to ZE10.2 - and didn't remove anything - and after flashing I got the brightness app issue and camera app issue....
10.2 was the first one I tried...if the lines were greatly reduced on this version I shudder to think of how bad it was on earlier editions. Between the lines and my icons bouncing all over, I went back to the stock kernel
Not completely. But then one of the reasons the lines are there are because they are a trade off for the speed. I'm happy to live with em for now.
After having 10.3 for more than 24 hours, I can say with confidence that this is the best version yet. Phone overall performence is greatly improved as well as batter life alone. Nice work guys, if your watchin.

Reason: info
I went and updated with the SPH-M900_ZE10.2-dev-2.0.1_KERN.7z found in the /SDX_Files/Dev Files/2.x Kernels/ directory - and when I looked at the version info in About Phone - nothing about being 2.0.1....

Any idea how to flash to this kernel?
not sure what you mean by "updated with" and wanting to "flash to this kernel". if you already used Odin and updated with the Dev kernel, then its already "flashed".
this kernel is designed to run with the alpha/beta version of 2.0.1 which some people have been working hard on getting to run on our samsung moment - Try 2.0.1 on your moment

okay so its great we are getting all these kernels and everything, but what happens when the 2.1 update comes out. do we have to do anything specifically, like take out the kernals....go back to cl14, or do we just go from whatever we have to 2.1?
i was trying to see if anyone else posted the same issue but cant seem to see any... i have also tryed to open just the flat out Fileserv.co.cc as well and i get the 404 not found
i have also tested on other computers as well as i have had friends try to open the links.. and nothing.. and i really donno what the problem would be other then the site itself?

Reason: addition
The steps are slightly different if your phone came with CL14, correct?
I downgraded to CL05, then switched to ZE 12.1. Was i supposed to first downgrade to CL05, then upgrade to a modified CL14, THEN to 12.1? Or were my steps fine?
