After getting really close to trading a guitar for a used LG Esteem and just barely getting one for $100 in cash(my max), I have had to settle for a $100 new phone. It looks like The Motion may be it. I wanted the larger screen on the Esteem but it looks like I will have to settle. I really can't afford the one hundred dollars either but my old phone is just getting too buggy.
SammyZ, I'm right below you in Miami. Anything I should know before going into a Metro store and buying this? You can PM me and if you want to talk by phone, either send your number or request mine. Anyone else can chime in. It's just that Sammy is local. Thanks for having me.
Welcome to af!
We can probably use that to recover to stock whenever we get development going.
I say you get the motion, many people left the esteem for it since it has very nice performance specs. If you are able to buy online, get it from wirefly it's 99 dollars as oppose to 150 in the metro store.

Thanks both of you for the wirefly tip. So you're saying that the specs are better on the Motion than on the Esteem? I mean other than the bigger screen and a couple of things here and there? What seem to be the most notable pluses?
EDIT: Ok, just checked the site and it states the following:
$138.88 with a new MetroPCS account. However, there is something about a $50 coupon. That would, of course, bring it to under $99.
Not that it matters as it also states that the phone is not currently available.

It has one gig of ram while the esteem has half or so. Which means it can handle multiple apps open better than the esteem.
Its a dual core while the esteem is a single core. So everything will be more snappier and lagless on the motion.
And it has ics, esteem has gb. Ics is way smoother and nicer.

Very interesting. You may have missied my edit on that same post, though. I added to it a couple of minutes later.
When I was at the Metro store looking at the Motion they made the comment that it was faster than the Connect because it had a 1.2 ghz dual core processor.
I pointed out that the Connect had that as well. They replied that was true, but the Motion had Android 4.0 "which lets it run faster".

What is you guys' take on that statement?
Did they also mention it has a s4 processor and one gig of ram?

I think that the phone is actually stronger because the processor that it has comes underclocked so like...the phone isnt even running to its full potential....well no unrooted phone is but you get what Im trying to say

Well ics does have a lot of performance improvements over gb.
Ok, just looked at the MetroPCS website today. There's a new player there for the same price as the Motion but with a 4 inch screen, instead. Obviously the phone is going to take a hit(or hits) in other areas for that simple improvement. It's called the Coolpad Quattro 4G. Ok, you pros, what are the cons here compared to the Motion to see if it's worth it for the bigger screen which does make a difference to me. Yeah, that half inch.

Picked up the Motion yesterday and im loving it! Upgraded from an Admire. Besides being way faster at just about everything, the 5 + gigs of internal memory is huge for me. The Admire always gave me the insufficient storage error and i had to pick and choose what apps were most important and delete the others. Surprised nobody has mentioned this.
The Coolpad Quattro has way less internal memory if i recall. So that was an instant no go for me.
I would like root mainly to be able to use TiBackup and some other apps. The bloatware is less of an issue with the abundance of memory available compared to the Admire.
My opinion is, if you're on the fence about this phone, get it, it's very doubtful you'll be disappointed.
Edit: the Coolpad only has 133 mb of internal storage, less than the Admire! Plus a weaker processor, less memory, only 3.2 mp camera and no ICS. For the same price!!

I did make a separate thread on the Quatro but, as for the Motion, looks like within the next 4 days I will have one because, guess what, I lost my phone today. I don't know where the heck I dropped it. I had VERY, VERY important info in there. I'm not just talkin' contacts. I'm talking VERY important legal info in there that I could not back up from that phone. Many things were going wrong with it but it still worked. New phone or not, I hope I get that phone back whether I have the Motion already or not.

A lot of us may not have mentioned the internal memory issue because most of the people I know here that got the motions came from the lg connect (like me) or the esteem. Those phones don't have small internal memory issues like the admire, so I'm not accustomed to having that issue.

Wtf? Was it really only ONE person behind most phone roots? And if so, why the heck is he going to stop?
bliss has rooted over 50 devices with the exploits he gave out for free. ATT is offering a thousand dollars for any exploits on their phones, how many of you would ignore that to do what he did?
exploits dont just fall out of the sky, they take quite a bit of work to find them. as such it is a losing battle eventually that the phones would be locked down enough no exploits will work, and with a locked bootloader that means you are SOL. you want rooting to remain an option vote with your dollars and choose open phones. samsung, HTC, and future motos are a safe bet. kyocera, and LG started to lock theirs down recently with hash checking and preventing custom software.
lets say he rooted this phone, and he released an exploit that gave you all root.. how long til an update was pushed and you didnt have root anymore? on a samsung you could just flash cwm and override that and root the new update, same goes for htc unlocked phones and the moto photon q. on this phoen you are stuck, even on the lg connect 4g since the way it writes cwm is via that exploit as soon as its patched you wont have new people being able to root or install cwm.. then bliss would need a new exploit and then so on..
imagine all the new phones coming out all the time, how many people are contacting him just per phone? let alone the people who would msg him and a week later msg him asking how its going etc. its surprising he lasted this long. his particular skill set isnt very common. its easy to understand how so many people could get annoying asking you to root their phone all the time.
now if you would like to have some root goodness, id suggest hitting up jcase as he is a very well known dev and has rooted a few phones himself.

Very interesting and valid point!

Ok, so I got the Motion today. I need to know what I do next. Please refresh me what you guys do when you get new phones to remove all the bloatware, advertising and all the junk. You can point me to other threads, websites, etc. If each and every time it's phone specific and not much can be done yet, please let me know. I have never removed any bloatware from anything but am not totally non-tech.

Ah, yes, sounds like what I need. That will take off the NBC News(and others)banner and will stop automatic downloads of more garbage like used to happen on my old phone? Oh, that reminds me, have to change "my phone" on the side bar under my username to reflect my new phone. Thanks
So im thinking about getting this phone ( i would like to sell the connect first)
I see that its back on wirefly for the 138.88 but i dont see anything in regards to $50 rebate. where did you guys see this.
Not only is the offer still on their website but I just looked on the rebate form on their website and on the one they gave me at the store and they show the rebate is active for purchases between August 23rd and September 30th.

That's also not correct. The website doesn't state that and at the store it did not either. I had the choice of any combination of 4G phones. In fact, we almost got the Motion for me and the Quatro for my sister and the guy was about to make the transaction but my sister decided to also go with the Motion.

Those two phones, yeah. However, you don't have to pick a combination that has to have one of those two phones. You can pick two other 4G phones meaning neither of the phones has to be a Motion or Cuatro. You can buy two 4G phones where neither of the two is a Motion or Cuatro. More choice combinations so that's good.
Ha ha, sorry, I can be confusing sometimes. I thought you were under the impression that one of the two phones had to be either a Motion or a Coolpad where that isn't the case. I sometimes read my own posts and can't understand what the heck I was talking about.

Your sure, just took a look at Wirefly's website, it was not showing the rebate. That would be great if it is still active...

Sorry, thought you were talking about Wirefly, Metro still has the rebate up. Cool...
I looked at the coolpad quattro forum. And its sad. Metro released the clearly superior lg motion 4g the same time they released the coolpad quattro for the same price. Of course no one going to get the quattro.

Yeah, but why oh why could they not have just charged a few more bucks and made the Motion with the Quatro's screen. It just boggles the mind.

The LG Motion 4G is an awesome phone. I can't believe how fast it is. I just upgraded from the Samsung Admire. Huge difference from 3g to 4g and 800mhz to dual 1.2 ghz and bump up to 1gig ram. I just finished a programming in C class and would like to figure out how to root this phone. Any idea where to start?
I did the same with the admire to the motion and I can't believe how fast it is and how everything on it works better then the esteem (which I also own). I love this phone and the battery life is crazy great, after 3-4 hrs talking and some gaming I still have about 35% left at the end of the day great phone.
