Thank you for contacting LG Electronics. We are delighted to hear from you as our Valued Customer.

Quality is a top priority at LG. We continuously strive to improve our products and our service, based on the requests of our valued customers. We are always happy to assist our customers in any way possible.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and strongly agree with your feelings as a consumer myself. Im in favor of unlock bootloader as well.

We appreciate your feedback and concerns brought forth. I have forwarded your email to the appropriate department to have a formal complaint on file.

As soon as I hear of any news on this subject I will be sure to notify you Christian.

Happy Thanksgiving!

And a live chat

michelle: Hello Christian. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today?
Christian: Hello, could you please give me some information about unlocking my phone's bootloader?
michelle: Hello, good morning! I'll be more than glad to assist you today! michelle: Well, unfortunately as the manufacturer we do not have the instructions or the information about how to root the device, sorry. In fact, if the phone is rooted, that would void the warranty service.
Christian: I don't want to root it, I would like to unlock the bootloader, so that I can upgrade and customize my phone.
Christian: Could you please send me to a phone tech?
michelle: I do apologize for any inconvenience, because we do not have those instructions either, sorry. I wish I could provide it to you, but, the only instructions that we can provide you would be how to get into the recovery mode, but, by resetting it.
michelle: Well, our technicians do not take calls, nor chats. This is the actual Customer Service and Tech Support department.
michelle: And we do not have that information at all, to be honest with you.
Christian: Is there a recovery mode other than the one that automatically resets the phone? One with options for things such as installing updates from the sd card?
michelle: As far as I can tell you, that we know of, this would be the only way to get into the recovery mode. By pressing the combination of keys, to reset it, sorry.
michelle: Most of the updates that we send out, are either over the air, thru the service provider or online, if you connect it via USB.
Christian: Ok, could you possibly tell me or give me a link about how I could make an update by myself to apply via USB so that I can replace the phone's ROM?
michelle: Well, to change that out, we do not have a tool. Those are part of the phone specs and software. We have a software update tool that allows you to update the software in case there is one send out.
Christian: Do you have a tool or information on how I can create an update myself?
michelle: This would be our link:
michelle: Pushed Page: LG LGMS770 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA
michelle: To be honest with you, no sorry.
Christian: And that is all the information you have about this?
Christian: Ok, thank you for helping.
michelle: Yes, that is correct. Sorry, I wish I could provide you more details, but without the resources, there's not too much that I can do. michelle: No problem. Feel free to contact us back if you need further assistance at anytime please.
michelle: You are very welcome! Thank you for choosing LG Electronics, you have a nice day and take care!
Christian: There is no one higher in position that knows more about this that you can direct me to?
michelle: I can connect you with my supervisor if you like to.
michelle: Would you like me to connect you with him?
Christian: Please do
michelle: Sure, one moment please.
Notice: michelle transferred Christian to John.
Notice: John has joined the chat session.
Notice: michelle has exited the chat session.
John: I will review the transcript right away
Christian: Hello
Christian: Ok, thank you.
John: I am afraid that this information is not available to us on how to make an update, updates are given to us by the carrier and we work together with them in the development process but we do not have a tool available to give or share for creating updates for any phone
Christian: Do you have a tool to unlock the bootloader?
Christian: Well, I am quiet sure your techs have one, what I mean is are you able to give me any information about where or how I can get it.
John: I am not able to give you instructions or assist on unlocking a phone John: it is against our company policies
John: if not I would help you with that
Christian: Ok, well thank you for your assistance. I hope LG decides to release this information/tool soon. Many of us would appreciate it.

Looking at the list of features, I don't believe so. The only thing interesting is the flash firmware, but we can already do that.

This is what I meant about harassing people. I'm not a dev but it's not like we are hacking into fort Knox. A few other threads here have promise. Morning call is one of them., Instead of b*Ing at LG, let's find a solution we can be proud of.

Edit:thank you typo fairy.

Good luck guys

Good luck guys
yeah, but it doesn't hurt to ask them for a tool that does it legit, like motorola and htc....and this is how Motorola and HTC unlock tools got started...by people asking repeatedly...not harassing but being persistent, there is a fine line there i know...but DDos and whatnot is a little far...and pretty f**ked up to do to a company that we're asking for help...

yes those threads have potential, just as this one does too, eventually something will happen...

Lets all agree to disagree on issue and move on, there are private ways to deal with issues. Thanks for understanding and please keep this thread on topic. Lets do as LoopyD mentioned, lets come up with a solution, instead of attacking.

The idea is that lg wont give us a bootloader because we are talking to the wrong people. When you contact tech services they are there to help you out with something wrong with the way the phone functions, they have hand guides for that situation, but they dont have the first-hand knowledge to program the clock on a vcr... we want someone who had a hand in programming the phone, not someone who's most prophetic advice was "factory reset"

So i also emailed LG, here its the message i sent them, to two different email addresses, and the replies i received:

My message:
Good morning,

I am writing to you this morning in regards to an Android handset that i recently purchased, the lg motion ms770. I love the phone and its features, and especially its price. That being said, i am very disappointed. Before shipping the phone, you seem to have locked the boot loader.
I am not sure if this was accidental or intentional, but i think you guys are missing the point of using a phone with an open source operating system. In the true spirit of what open source is, the boot loader on this device needs to be unlocked through some unlocking tool provided to the end users by LG or through a set of steps that are easily followed by anyone who purchased this device.

The reason people choose Android over the iPhone is customizing, plain and simple. If we wanted to purchase phones that were locked, we would have bought iPhones, but we didn't, we bought an Android phone created by LG, because that is what we wanted. Do the right thing, like Motorola and HTC before you: release a tool that gives us, the users, full and unhindered access to the boot loader.

What you couldn't possibly understand yet but will eventually, is that your locked bootloader will eventually result in thousands of smart phone consumers switching from LG devices to other phone manufacturers with comments like "Why would I sick with LG? I can't customize on account of the locked bootloader." being spouted by each of them.

Do what is right, do what makes sense, allow us to customize, and unlock your bootloader.

Sincerely,
My name here ;-)

Dear Mario,

Thank you for your interest in LG mobile phone.
Currently we are considering methods and target models for bootloader unlock to allow customers to install a custom OS (Operating System).
We are looking for efficient and safe methods to support it, and the target model will be selected after careful consideration. (e.g. technical barrier such as platform limitation and/or mobile carriers policy).
We will let you know when we are ready to support unlocking the bootloader.
It is regrettable that we cannot give you the answer right away, and we hope this information is helpful to you.

Best regards,
LG Developer Team

Dear frrrrrrunkis

Thank you for your interest about our mobile phone.

We received your request on LG Open Source Code Distribution site(Open Source Main).
This site is just for providing source codes of FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) we have used in our product.

Totally you're right, customers want to unlock their phone now.
We hope that the next OS version isnt locked.
Please wait for more times with your patience.

We hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
Sincerely yours,

Default Progress? Maybe?

Joe: Hello. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today?
me: Hello Joe. A lot of us (your customers) are looking to develop our own software and android operating systems for your phone, the LG Motion 4g. The problem is, your bootloader is locked, so we can not put anything we make on the phone. I am requesting that either a tool to unlock the bootloader or the key used to sign your software is released, so we can create our own android versions for this phone, the LG Motion 4G.
Joe: I am sorry to hear about this.
Joe: I would be happy to help you with that.
Joe: Okay, this is actually handled on a different department level, let me guide you to the proper place.
me: OK, thank you
Joe: you are welcome
Joe: Please go into Open Source Main , select 'Mobile phone" in category and then type MS770 in model name and click 'search
Joe: Then click on the LGMS770 link
Joe: And press the 'request for inquiry' button. From here you can make a formal request for the software so the technicians in charge can consider releasing a version with the Bootloader unlocked
me: Hmm, thank you for your assistance,
Joe: you are welcome
Joe: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
me: There is one other thing, is there any way I can contact your tech department or developers directly?
Joe: Unfortunately no. The only way would be through the 'request for inquiry', regarding the software.

This would me amazing. The requests are fairly simple; I was the one who requested the Version D Update. They responded saying it would take about 2 days... then about 30 hours later they responded saying it was posted.

Remember the unlock tool doesn't have to be specific to our device. Theirs a few others that if got unlocked we could unlock ours.

There is already an unlock took available for one of the optimus models.. I can't believe no one talks about convincing that dev to take a look at the motion and possibly try to port it over to our device

The optimus g? Project freegee? Tried it, talked to some people about it, completely different, won't work. They just took the bootloader from one of the Nexus's which happened to be really close to it, and flashed it to their phone.

Good clarification.. Remember, i have a deeply invested psp background, and a majority of the psp breakthroughs have been Ports or pieces of code from one thing working perfectly elsewhere..
