Default [GUIDE] System Backup/Restore for LG Motion 4G (root nand)

CREDIT:
Firstly, Big Thanks to everyone who made this possible: 985hPaKicK, cretinoid (aka hroark13), slipkn0t2012 (first tester), zeest (first person to brick ), and everyone on this thread here: 985hPaKicK 2nd init recovery

FIRST STEPS:
Before you begin, your phone should be rooted.

Next we need to install 2nd-init to your phone.
  1. Download the file lte2recovery.apk to your phone
  2. Next you will want to use a program like Root Explorer to copy the file to the folder /system/app/
After you do that, it should appear in your apps drawer (you may need to restart your phone to see it).

RECOVERY BOOT:
To reboot your phone into Recovery Mode- Run the app "LTE2 2nd-init Recovery"
  1. Click 2nd-init Recovery
  2. Click Reboot Recovery

Your device will immediately reboot. IT MAY FREEZE on the LG Logo. Just press the up or down volume keys to view the recovery screen.

WARNING:
If you want to experiment with this tool, it would be wise to first see the path of those who ruined their phone before you. After rebooting and entering the CWM menu system, AVOID "Reboot Recovery" under the Advanced Menu options. It will factory reset/erase your phone.

CONTROLS:
Recovery Screen Controls:
[HIGH]Vol Up - Move selection up
Vol Down - Move selection down
Power - Choose selection
Back Key - Go back
Home Key - Toggle Internal/External Storage

Quickly double select "reboot system now" to reboot.
[/HIGH]

BACKING UP:

To perform the backup, you will need at least 1GB of free space on your sdcard. If you have a lot of apps installed or files saved on your internal storage, then the backup may require as much as 6GB to 7GB of space.
  1. Use the Home Key to select- Current sdcard: External
  2. Choose the "backup and restore" option.
  3. Choose "backup".
It will immediately begin backing up your system. All backups are saved in a folder named "clockworkmod". All backups will have an incorrect date of 1970.

RESTORING:
  1. Use the Home Key to select- Current sdcard: External
  2. Choose the "backup and restore" option.
  3. Choose "restore".
  4. Choose the backup you want to restore.
  5. Choose "Yes - Restore"
Your phone should begin to restore from the backup. Do not attempt to stop the process after it begins.

EXTRA HELP:
If you have done something that causes your phone to continuously reboot, then you will need to unbrick your device before you can perform a backup or restore.

Pull out the battery on your phone to power it off. Then follow the unroot/unbrick guide.

Should be, as long as you don't flash anything unless you know it works, and if you follow instructions.

Hi Sepero

I like your thread, and it is more user friendly then mine, so it will be helpful to newer users and stuff.

Instead of posting a direct link to the file, can you make it more like this

1. Download the apk file from the OP in this thread
985hPaKicK 2nd init recovery

People are already referring to your thread to get the recovery,

I know that you gave proper credits and all, but I would like my thread to get a little more traffic before it gets buried in the sands of time

Thanks for understanding

You didn't have to link back to this thread. That was a really nice gesture. I personally don't care about the recognition for myself. All I care about is people getting easy and good guidance on the forum.

I have added a link to your thread in the First Sentence of the OP on this thread. If ppl want to join in the discussion on your thread, then I'm sure they will.

Hopefully that is enough for you. Everything you've done is really appreciated. I just don't want to force people jump across multiple threads for no reason. That's a bad internet tactic that only serves to frustrate users.

Most people won't understand what's being discussed on your thread. We can't force people to learn if they don't want to. People will learn on their own if they choose.

I disagree

I try to encourage people to do more reading so they learn more, it seems if you make things too easy for people, they do not learn.

I did ask you nicely to link to the thread and not the file directly, if you do not want to do that, fine, it is your thread.

I am really not going to be interested in making any more threads, if people are going to be doing this type of stuff.

I have to say I agree that it is a bad tactic and frustrating, from firsthand experience. He put a link, if people want to go and read more about it, they can. I find the last part hugely unnecessary. You had a thread for testing/development of the 2nd-init - which was successful. He then made an easy-to-read guide, so that people that aren't dev's know it is now safe, and there are now instructions, rather than just your thread, which says "Here, have a file, figure it out."

maybe if you spent more time reading threads and learning about this stuff, instead of reading easy noob guides, you would of known enough not to brick your phone

I'm sorry, this was uncalled for. I made a mistake, forgot to check if something was safe, assumed the e-mode would save me if I did make a mistake. It happens.

Plus, why does it matter if your thread falls off the first page? You have helped, and have been recognized for that help, and there is a link to your thread here, so it can easily be found still. We all appreciate it. Is it simply that you want all the fame and glory for yourself?

There are different threads for different levels of users. Some threads are for more advanced users and some threads are not. Not everybody has the time or desire to be an advanced user. Should I go without food because I don't have the time or desire to become an advanced farmer?

I'm sorry to hear that, but if I don't make a nice user friendly guide, then somebody else will (and they often don't give any credit). I do it just to bring good things to people.

I'm sorry to hear that, but if I don't make a nice user friendly guide, then somebody else will (and they often don't give any credit). We gotta get over our own ego in life my friend. I do it just to bring good things to people.

yeah and I did compliment your thread, i did not ask you to remove it, I asked you to change one thing, if you do not want to repect my wishes that is fine

I do not need to get over my ego, it is what makes me what I am

maybe you do not have the time or desire to become an advanced farmer, but you should not bite the hand that feeds you either.

Anyway, I am done, I have better things to do, this forum has a nice easy thread to read now, but they have lost a willing developer to make stuff for them, and they can thank you, and zeest for that

@cretinoid
I understand you are frustrated, but please don't blame the forum or anyone here. I hope you find peace with yourself.

EDIT:
For those wondering why cretinoid was banned, let's just say that some people have a difficult time controlling their emotions online.

Guys, c'mon.

It's the holidays, is a public disagreement and more grief today worth it?

Let's do two things -

First, let's just pause on this whole issue for a few days, it's not much.

Second, this is best handled via PM and copying me. I'm sure that we can all work together.

Now - not another word of controversy or disagreement in this thread is required.

And this must serve as formal warning, it's done for the next few days.

Thank you.

cretinoid elected to not work this out and to no longer participate in our forums, as it was a sock puppet account for a member who previously left unhappy anyway.

Let's just move on.

Thank you.

Try downloading from the computer instead. Other users claimed the same problem. Check the link at the top of OP for other mirrors also. Hope it works.

  1. Download the file lte2recovery.apk to your phone
  2. Next you will want to use a program like Root Explorer to copy the file to the folder /system/app/
After you do that, it should appear in your apps drawer (you may need to restart your phone to see it).

RECOVERY BOOT:
To reboot your phone into Recovery Mode-
  1. Run the app "LTE2 2nd-init Recovery"
  2. 2nd-init Recovery
  3. Reboot Recovery

Your device will immediately reboot. IT MAY FREEZE on the LG Logo. Just press the up or down volume keys to view the recovery screen.

WARNING:
If you want to experiment with this tool, it would be wise to first see the path of those who ruined their phone before you. AVOID "Reboot Recovery" in the Menu options. It will factory reset/erase your phone.

CONTROLS:
Recovery Screen Controls:
[HIGH]Vol Up - Move selection up
Vol Down - Move selection down
Power - Choose selection
Back Key - Go back
Home Key - Toggle Internal/External Storage

Quickly double select "reboot system now" to reboot.
[/HIGH]

BACKING UP:

You will need about 2GB of free space to backup your system.

There is a de-odexed ROM here:
Base de-odexed ROM
It is fully functional as far as I know.

The CM10 ROM is just an alpha ROM in early stages.
And welcome to AndroidForums.

Default was up bro

Thanks for the quick reply . I just did this one other thing . I changed the device auto storage to my external from internal . So i was wondering , if i factory reset , will it wipe my external sd card in that process ? I dont want to wipe my recovery , unless you guys can provide a backup custom recovery witch i would be really grateful for . Or should i just unstill that script and go from there . Im trying the install the rom that is in the link you provided me with , but unfortunately i was spooked to read these words "If you install this ROM , it will format your system partition, extract the system folder to it , create the needed symlinks , and set the proper permissions" i have a clue of how to find some of these things like the permission options , but i have no idea what everything else is . I have no clue what to do to with them and how to find them . I hope i made sence . Thanks for your quick reply and im glad you are friendly , helpfull and on top of things . Much appreciated .

The safest thing to do before doing a factory reset is just simply remove your sdcard from the device. Then there's no chance for an sdcard erase accident.
