I heard that android 4.4 kit Kat uses 16% less memory than the previous version of android Jellybean and Google made so that low budget devices can run it to

The new velvet apk is awesome but I can't get Google home to work. I've tried every step and possible workaround there is but still get force close.

I've not got it to work yet either, I get a error about some placeholder for google search not found lol.

Google camera works tho, I got a pm about it and checked it out, no purple 1080p video with it.

Did you install the Google_recognizer lib from xda? I did but it still didn't allow Google home to work. Still getting Google search can't be found as well.

Download the new Hangouts, the Google Launcher, and Nexus 5 goodies!

Here's the link, but I followed all steps and could get everything working, but the launcher. If y'all figure it out please let me know.

Yea I read about the same from droid life, tho I got the apks straight from google (stock images for N5)

Supposedly to get the launcher to work you need the GoogleHome.apk, Velvet.apk, and PrebuiltGmsCore.apk.

I placed both the launcher and velvet into the system, placed the lib in the system only thing I didn't replace yet in the system is the pre-built. I don't even know if it's all necessary but installing them like a regular app didn't work so I'm trying everything.

You need to replace or add this if you dont have it in System/lib.

libgoogle_recognizer_ini_I.zip (File Only, not Zip)

I have the new one that is supposed to be from kit-kat. It works fine as a stand alone. I just can't get it to work with the launcher.

I already replaced it into system/app as velvet and it doesn't show as quicksearchbox in data/app or at all anymore in data. When I installed it as a regular app it read as velvet in system (which is how it came stock) and quicksearchbox in data.

maybe kitkat puts search in a different folder. seems like nexus 4 uses a folder called priv-app for some system apps.

decompiled google home.apk, all that was in there was the wallpapers and a couple other png's so i guess the actual launcher is in the velvet.apk and i'm assuming were not putting it in the right place. later i'm going to look into the code on the home.apk and see if i can find out where it expects to find google search.
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>
    <string name="main_launcher_component">com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.launcher.GEL</string>
    <string name="launcher_name">Launcher</string>
    <string name="launcher_name_internal">GEL Stub</string>
</resources>
so maybe we should delete our quicksearch.apk before installing velvet so that it can create it's own or i hear it is working on spirit, maybe we should try to get the quicksearch from it after google home is installed and working.
