I don't see them charging $299 but the Atrix does have an SD card slot which I will slip my 32GB card in giving me 48GB

It all sounds good... To match my prediction in the "Mar 1st" thread, all I need is for it to be available for online ordering Superbowl sunday.. (hopefully the stores running out of stock prediction fails)

He said the phones are coming around the 13th, but he still thinks the Inspire is coming first. He also said that pricing was strictly not discussed by the regional guy, nor was availability to his store (sometimes he gets things right after launch day). He also said that at first the guy said the 13th, but then wouldn't comment on which phone (or both), and the rest of the meeting he changed quickly to saying "around" the 13th. He also said it was odd that it was just an AT&T guy, as apparently the training for the Bravo, Flipout, and whatever was done by a Motorola rep hosted by At&T, and the Aria had a similar guy but not with either HTC or AT&T directly. This one was a regional sales manager for AT&T...
At any rate, he said to expect them both soon, and that they are amazingly cool phones...

Edit: I just texted him about accessories and he said he is getting them AFTER the devices, and that he probably won't have the docks for a while. Whether that's an authorized dealer thing or just that they aren't ready yet, I don't know...
Glad to hear another source also stating the 13th. But not having the docks at launch would be an epic fail. The phone itself it great - but it is the docks that really set it apart. They need to have the docks available on launch day! Can anyone else comment on this?

The 13th fits with AT&T's release schedule as it is on a Sunday. The big question I have is pre-sale/pre-order dates. Will AT&T or Best Buy be offering the Atrix on pre-sale/pre-order? I hope so. I really want to pre order the phone and docs ASAP so I can pick them up on release day. Any Best Buy contacts able to shed some light on any presale dates?

Sorry for the noob question but coming from a line of 5 htc devices I just want to verify: A locked bootloader = no custom roms correct? Please tell me I'm wrong as I'd love to have this one. Ya you will eventually be able to root it but for me a missing feature of the phone would be no custom roms. Right now I'm flashing 2-3 time per week. Cant see paying to give that up.

That is correct, with a locked bootloader you would have a much harder time putting custom ROMS on it, depending on how well locked it is. The Motorola Milestone also had a locked bootloader but there were a few ROMs that were able to get around that.

That is correct but might be better to post this in on of the bootloader threads. Why do you need to flash 2-3 times per week?

Great - thanks for the information. Keep it coming.

I expect that if the 13th holds true - we will hear something in the next week or so about pre-sales and such.

It's 110% want too. Been flashing/cooking roms since my htc wizard in 2005. Gotta keep pushing the envelope. There's always something that looks good on the next rom. Besides, google sync and titanium just enables more flashing. (like sashimi and UC scripts if anyone here is a old winmo convert)

Many thanks for the confirmations, sorry for hijacking and I'll move to the bootloader thread. Very new to android forums outside of xda android HD2. I'm more than ready for a real android phone but dont want to make a 2 year mistake. Sadly it looks like Motorola is off the list.

Great news for the release date! I have been busy so haven't really been able to keep up with the latest Atrix news. I will still end up waiting till MWC though (I have waited 1.5-2 years, what's another couple weeks?).

Well stuff announced at MWC might not get released till Q2 or Q3 who knows. It's all about the now, for me at least. There is always Craigslist, hell I sold my iPhone 4 for $700 on Craigslist so I would do the same for the Atrix if there is something that blows me away. Although I don't expect to get $700 for it but I will make my money back and then some.

doey anyone know how long it usually takes for moto to release the phones in europe after their initial release in the us?
would be really interested because then i could choose betwenn the optimus 2x and the atrix
btw does the atrix also have the feuture of hdmi mirroring so i can browse on the internet on my big tv for example? just asking

There isn't really a good precedent for phones going from the US to Europe, it really depends for each model. That said I believe I heard it was coming to Orange in Q2 (I'm not 100% though since that doesn't really impact me)

As for HDMI mirroring, I don't think it's exactly the same as how the optimus 2x does it but you definitely can connect to a tv via mini HDMI > HDMI and use the webtop app to surf the web. (the phone then turns into a "trackpad" and keyboard for input)

The release date works fine for me. Got my Captivate for $0.01, back in Sept and it is starting to give me problems. Going to use some of my tax return for the Atrix.

Yeah, I know but the wait is not too much of an issue for me. I have an iPhone 4 but I can't really sell it as I need some sort of iPod Touch so I might as well use it in conjunction with an Atrix or another phone. I would just be inclined to wait just for LTE and possibly even for Tegra 3. I mean, if I end up waiting 6 months for LTE and then Tegra 3 is just a couple months off, it wouldn't be too bad. Like I said, though, I have an iPhone 4 that I can use in the mean time so it is not a totally bad alternative for waiting.

That could be but with a phone with this much buzz I don't see why. It could just be that some wont get it at launch?

Well that's what I mean, the original Moto Droid had a lot of buzz but not every Best Buy store sold it a launch.

I don't plan on getting it at Best Buy anyway but would suck for some it they don't release it in all stores at launch. Well Ill get from BB if they release it before AT&T and if there is some instant rebate that I'll have to mail in for AT&T.

Best buy will not have an exclusive period of release...

Really?? It seems as though that is what they were saying. Do you have any kind of proof to back up your statement?

well it seems that there are multiple people on here who have corroborated the fact that the Atrix will launch on FEB 13th at Best Buy before other channels

I'll put it this way. If a carrier hosts an advocate type program for it's COR employees, it's not going to go to an Authorized Retailer first for exclusive sales time periods. It's a waste of money, time, and effort to train a bunch of people across the country on a device they can't even sell in their stores but an authorized retailer does. It's not a good business sense. We'll let it pan out and we'll see, I suppose.

For me at the end of the day, the date is the most important part :-) If it's not exclusive to Best Buy that's great, then I can choose where I want to get it and hopefully be more likely to find it soon; if it is exclusive, well I can work with that too (hopefully my neighborhood store will be all stocked up!)

Either way, I'm hoping we're just a couple long weeks away :-)

Just think though, why would at&t not sell one of the most sought after phones that was announced at CES in their COR stores before best buy? Why would they train thousands of employees on the device before the launch just to have them wait for a month or two after launch to sell it? Doesn't make sense, does it?

because there are more Best Buy stores than AT&T and in the end AT&T makes money either way

The Motorola Atrix 4G brings several firsts to AT&T's lineup, among them a dual-core CPU in the form of NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform. The CPU is clocked at 1GHz per core, providing enough zip to match the HSPA+ connectivity and 4G download... Read More
