So after the Gingerbread update my phone was awesome. I would get like 19 hours unplugged and I would be at 15%. That would include roughly 2 hours and screen one time and 30 minutes of talking. It also included about 5 hours of the bluetooth being left on. I was loving it. It was better than my wifes iphone. Well about 2 weeks ago the battery life started getting worse. I had just installed words with friends so I thought that was it and removed it. Still didn't help. Finally over the weekend I bit the bullet and did a full factory restore (I had been meaning to do it for a while anyway). To my surprise, still not much of an improvement. I'm to the point now where I have to charge for a while during the day to make it like I used to. Has anyone else experienced this? Even before gingerbread, I didn't feel like my phone got nearly the battery life that some people spoke of. I just wish I could get it back to where it was right after the Gingerbread update.
Check your running services (apps) and see what's been running in the background, how long and using alot of CPU memory. Did you add any new widgets? Are you still using the phone, about the same, as before you noticed the battery draining quicker? Has your cell signal been steady or dropping? If all else fails, buy a new battery. Also, you mentioned that you would get to about 15%, assuming, you mean before charging. I have heard and read that you shouldn't let the battery discharge that low, because it decreases the battery life.
I have closely watched the apps and none seem to be doing anything different. The biggest battery drainer according to the battery usage on the phone is "Phone Idle". I have a spare battery so I'm going to try and use the other one for a while and see if I notice a difference. Thanks for the help!
I was a little worried after purchasing my Atrix (it came with GB installed) because I work 10 hour days and it needed to last at least that long. I have had no problems thus far, even on my days off where it gets more use it has lasted all day. I have JuiceDefender installed and keep WIFI and BT off when not using them. It was the one thing keeping me from Android and now I am a convert.

Yeah, maybe it's as simple as you have a bad battery. Good luck.
Battery life is good!!.. IMO This is my first android phone. I switched from Nextel about 8 months ago. And I love it. Generally I unplug it at 6am.. and plug it back in about 6-7Pm. During those 12 hours... I typically have 3 calls lasting about 10 min eachs. I play a few games during my break. And i listen to music during work. WIFI is almost always on. On given days i check weather and radar. Maybe check a website or two.. Pry about 100 texts.. Checking or sending. Some days taking pictures... Basicly do a little of everything every single day. After 12 hours my lowest ive got was 38% AVG around 50ish.
Note: All these apps i use during the day i dont task kill them. And even though they say the battery doesnt have a memory. We all know it still does. At least once a week i let it run completely dead and fully charge. Atrix has a 1930 Mh battery... Im no cell geek.. but biggest one ive seen stock on a cell.
Getting 20+ hrs with heavy use from my batteries. Have two batts. with external charger. The one that came with my Atrix and I bought a second Motorola batt.
I use my smartphone for so many things, I even wonder, how people can NOT have two batteries?
i got my atrix for $53 from best buy yesterday (didnt charge me tax on the full price) after my captivate just died on me and the battery life has been impressive so far. after a full charge, i was unplugged for 7 hours and the battery only went down to 61%. i was doing a lot of stuff during that time too. i havent let it go the distance yet because i plugged the phone in and went to sleep after that though. with the same amount of activity, my phone wouldve already run out of batteries on my captivate.
Note : At all times i had screen brightness to min. level.
Just wanted to share. I got my phone couple of weeks back and it had Froyo. First time with a single charge i got around 2 days with minimal usage, after that not more than one day and sometimes even less. With GB it got worst.
After full charge, with some light usage battery would deplete to 20% within 2hours and 30-40% depleted in idle mode.
Yesterday i charges it to 100% with phone turned on, then unplugged charger and then switched off my phone and charged it again, it was showing 90%. I let it charge until it was at 100%. Checked with calibration tool it wouldn't charge to 4200mV, it got upto 4140mV. I used Wi-Fi for few min, ran Watch dog for few mins with realtime CPU that drained battery a bit, opened couple of apps for some time.
After 11 hrs and 15 Mins its at 80% (3922mV), that is what BatteryCalibration tool is showing, i hope it doesnt deplete repidly at any point .
After 11hrs and 15 mins , Battery meter at 80% (3922mV)
Phone idle - 59%
Display - 21%
Cell Standby - 11%
Voice calls - 5%
Now it seems my phone is consuming less battery when i am not using it. Also after reading many posts i believe you shouldn't let your battery drain completely that will probably increase your battery life(life cycle ).

[In bold] that sounded as if you had a very rouge app that wouldn't let your phone go into sleep mode (really badly). Do you remember deleting any apps after having the bad battery to the good battery?

. . . . Also after reading many posts i believe you shouldn't let your battery drain completely that will probably increase your battery life(life cycle ).
Every time you discharge the battery, you're wearing it out.
Unlike NiCd Batteries, there are NO benefits in discharging a LiIon battery. Occasionally you need to fully discharge a battery to re-calibrate the battery level gauge circuitry - this does not provide better battery life, it just allows more complete discharge if it has drifted out of calibration.
I seem to have the same problem I don't think my battery life is that great. But I must say it is a huge step up from my Iphone 4 which I think drained faster than any phone/device I have ever owned
For me, great battery life is having the phone last from waking up to going to sleep without having to charge it. I hardly had that happen on my Nexus One. The Atrix lasts and lasts and still has 20-40% by the time Im plugging in the charger at night.
So far, the only time I let it run completely down, I got 22 hours out of it.
excuse when you first got this phone would you like to tell me how u charged it .. because i got mine and discharged it fully before giving it a first time charge for around 5 hours and took it off charge and then it hasnt lasted me more than 8 hours thats with the following
2-3 calls around 10 mins
screen on 60%
frequent text messaging
browsing web now and then
6 or 7 songs playing
Should i be getting more what should i do .. i am going to buy another battery

60% screen time on of 8 hours is almost 5 hour the phone when the screen was lit.
That's really heavy usage. What were you doing with the phone on for 5 hours?
the Display screen takes up a lot of battery life so the more you use your phone, the more the battery drains.
My usage is 2 hours display on for surfing the net and 30 minutes of call, 1 hour of music and I get about 10-12 hours of battery life with 20% battery left

well here is my story guys,
im 19, ive own a total of 8 iphones, (now) 2 andriods (optimus V & Atrix, 3 blackberries, an lg neon and like 20+ dummy phones lol.
now before i start, i am in no means rich or greedy, i have bought 90% of the phones i have owned, ive been working since i was like 13.
iPhones.... there amazing, there so stable and user friendly. but i hate how closed they are so ive always jailbroke my phones
blackberries suck, the best thing about them is i could pull 2 days of nonstop texting on them lol
the optimus v was my first andriod, about 7 months ago i got her, thru virgin mobile(MAD CHEAP PLAN!) when i first got it i loved it to death, then i started reading up about roms, and stuff, then the next thing you know it i had cyan rom and i overclocked her to 806Mhz, angry birds was laggy, some stuff lagged on it. BATTERY LIFE SUCKED!! i used to text like 24/7 and constantly on the internet with that thing, it was so bad i bought not one but **2** backup batteries, id listen to music alot and stuff too, then i sold it and decided to get a plan with a new white iphone 4. i loved that phone to death, i wanted the iphone 5 when it came out so i sold it like 2 weeks ago on ebay for 475(i got 400 bc paypal and ebay like money lol) i was using my 3rd blackberry that my aunt gave to me for the time being, almosst got a 3gs to get me by till the 5 came out, then almost got a used 4 off ebay, but thank god i cancelled that, then i started reading about the s 2 coming out, i dont even think thats out in the us yet so i went to the next best phone, the atrix
i found one on ebay for 380, brand new in box. while i was waiting to get it i read like every battery post and a crap ton other stuff about the phone, it got here one day after sevral days of not updating thru usps, i was so pumped. first thing i did was updated it, then brought it to my local atnt store, got my plan changed from the blackbery to the normal data. was kinda worried about the battery.
Ie had it for less then a week now, at first the battery sucked soo bad, i thought it was good to let the battery fully drain then fully charge it, i wont be doing that anymore lol. well today i decided to try a few things and change some settings around and stuff, well it worked very well,
heres what i have:
11h 51m 23s (i restarted my phone at 1 so its only showing 7.51)
Display:44(3h12m)
Phone Idle:15(4h38m)
mediaserver:12(39m) wtf is this??
Winamp:9(3h52m)
cell standby:6(7h50m)w/o signal3%
Android system:4
android os:3(10m)
hancent:3
com.android.imputmethod.latin:2
Voice calls:2(3m)
These are a little but wrong bc of the restart i did
from 10am to 9.02 pm im sitting on 28%, im impressed,
i have wifi off and gps off and brightness almost all the way down and juice ultimate set on extended. tomorrow i will have a wayyyy shorter post of the usage with no restart screwing things up lol
15h 58m 21s 2am-7:58pm
Display:44%(4h 26m)
Phone idle:33%(11h 31m 53s)
Cell standby:11%(15h 58m 4s)[w/o signal:4%]
Handcent:3%
Android OS:3%(10m 37s)
Voice calls:2%(6m)
android system:2%
At my parents i dont get good service, it cuts in and out everytime i touch it, so between like 6-8pm and 2-3am that was draining more then normal. im happy
from 2-11 it drained 8% and then was going down kinda quick at firstm i was scared lol, also no music today ether, but will be morrow, might get a second batter too

Also, I used wi-fi for over 1h, (roughly 1 and 1/2 hours), and edge connection for about 30 minutes. Mostly, I use my phone with the lowest brightness (0%) and rarely with 10%.
In fact, I was just inexperienced for android os because I have never used it until I got my atrix. However, I guess I managed well and still trying to learn. How to save battery was one of my main concerns since I was suffering with my old htc with windows mobile.
Anyway, I am not using juice defender at all because I thought it is not neccessary. Any program like juice defender that does not help with processor and os is useless for me. I use apn on-off and couple of programs that do not interfere with the processor and os of my smartphone. Recently, I installed a program called power saver and it does what I want exactly: It gets my phone to sleep mode. I can see it from the stats that does not show 'awake'
Now I have a question.. Is this light, moderate or heavy usage? Can anybody tell?

Has anyone noticed that when your battery is getting low, say 40 or 50 % that if you restart your phone it jumps back up to 70+%???? Both the factory icon jumps up and so does my Battery Notifier Big Text. On my phone, it stays "up" for like half an hour, then does a drop back to previous low. My wife's Atrix stays up there after doing that. WTF?

It happens to many atrix owners. You can download batterycalibration application from the market (root required), helps reducing the increment rate. Sudden increments most likelihood will result in sudden decreases while using the phone.

Also have two batteries, store gave me one for free thinking my old one was bad which they let me keep, turns out it was a livewallpaper draining it quicker than norm, still using the old one and have a standby, great backup.

As much as i like the live wallpapers, they are a battery drainer. I still use them on occation. For me, If I have my screen on for over 3 1/2 hrs. I usually get about 14 hrs. I can easily make it thru a day without a charge. But I choose to charge, even when down to 60%.

I like the live wallpapers, the lightning storm wp I had was really nice, but once I removed it along with the junk LP+ I noticed a big difference. I try and drain mine down to about 20% prior recharging, a lot of the systems we use in the aerospace industry require it for longevity in micro-gravity or low-earth orbit. I've yet to break open the new battery they gave me.
I take it off the charger around 7 am and can get it to red by about 9pm. Always has enough for me to be on the phone/internet/facebook/twitter all I want. This is definitely the best Android battery I have had.
I just got my new Atrix on Saturday and wanted to chime in to this thread. I am really big on putting new phones/devices through the wringer when I first get them. As I mentioned, I got the phone on Saturday around 1 pm and used it heavily until it died on Sunday evening...that was on the factory charge and it was roaming without a data connection until Sunday afternoon.
First charge was done and over by 8 pm Sunday evening with some use before I went to bed around 10 pm. I woke up at 7:00 am Monday morning and used my phone for work from 8 am to 5 pm. That usage included emails, twitter, a couple phone calls, app downloads, a couple videos from NFL Network and texting; all while having my screen timer on a 30 second shut off time and the auto-backlight on. After 5 pm I slowed my usage down a little and finally killed the battery around 8 pm when I put it on the charger for it's second charge cycle since purchasing it.
All in all, I think 24 hours on one charge, un-used for about 12 hours and then put through the wringer for about 11 hours is pretty great battery life. I am a big proponent of charge cycles, and I do them once a month on all of my devices. It is very important to do AT LEAST 2 of them when you get your phone for the first time, after that, do what you have to do.

Just wanted to update everyone, on my second and final charge cycle after receiving my new phone on Saturday afternoon, I got 25 hours and 5 minutes out of the battery before it died. That was with heavy usage all day yesterday and then no charge all night and using it for about an hour this morning.
In my mind, this is a great battery life. MOST (not all) people consider the ability of a phone battery to last from the time you wake up to when you go to bed to be a good battery life but if you can get longer out of it, that's just icing on a the cake or if you prefer, gravy. The Atrix has a great battery for the speed that you get out of the phone.
I have been getting about 20% - 30% by 8 or 9pm if I start the day at 7am with 100% battery. I usually browse the net a few times a day, (short 5 - 10mins), get about 20 - 30 emails, and check the stock prices a few times. Now this is the shocking news ... I turned off auto sync gmail, and I am having 60% of battery by 8 or 9pm. Everything else stays pretty much the same except I now manually sync gmail.
ok so ive went through 2 atrixs in almost 3 weeks. the one i have now is my 3rd one. my first one at first had great battery i was very impress but then i dropped it about 4 or 5 days after i got it and the battery started to die fast, so i went and returned it. my second had bad battery life and so a few day later i went and returned that one too. now the one i have now is pretty much like my second one the battery is not like how the first one was at all. i would go to school at around 7:10am and come home at around 3:25 to 4pm and i would get from 50% to 30% left. i do the same thing i did with my first atrix leave data on all day, use a 3rd party texting app, browse the web(about 20mins to 1 and half hours),download some apps, maybe netflix once in a while. my first atrix would be around 70% to 60% which i dont mind becuase i know i used it alot but the one i have now drops so low. can someone explain to me why my second 2 atrix can last as long as my first one? i had it for for 6 days. all of them were new atrix from a at&t store. on my first atrix i left all syncing on, didnt mess with any of that at all, with the one i have now i turned off all syncing and the apps that i normally have running at all times are facebook and textfree again this was the same for the first atrix and the one i have now

I believe that. It really depends on how many apps you have running in the background, screen brightness, notification settings and how much net surfing. My phone is loaded with 190 apps, 33 widgets and a live wallpaper. I get 12 to 14 hrs daily. I don't talk much on it , but do text, check e-mails, do about a few hrs. of reading news and stuff, surfing the net and stream music for about 2 hrs or more.
After searching for weeks for a solution for my terrible battery life I finally found the fix on XDA forums. I was getting a little bit more than 48 hours on battery, with light use and almost no calls. The problem I had turned out to be the phone baseband, as I was using an unlocked Bell phone on a Rogers network (in Canada). After flashing the phone with an AT&T (who developed Rogers network in Canada) baseband (36p and later 37p) my battery life jumped to almost 5 days!
I cannot post links yet but search for “Atrix radios” thread on XDA developers for more info as to what types of basebands are available. The flashing process is simple: you only need the clockwork recovery installed.

OHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! *_* I am in the same predicament as you. Bell on Rogers...but no use and my phone only lasts for 20 hours XD 48 hours on standby is pretty good on my book...but FIVE BLOODY DAYS! Molly cow!!! I flashed the French Radio last year, I don't think there was an AT&T radio at the time. Thanks for posting!
My battery life is pretty poor... dosent do too badly in fairness to it as a smartphone but know where near what I need... I had a little look on eBay and picked up a 2800mah battery with larger back casing for a whopping £10.44... can't see as ill have any problems with it then

Same here. I played with it when the first build was released on a friend's Atrix but there were too many bugs that I need to be ironed out first. I'm pretty happy with my set up.
The Motorola Atrix 4G brings several firsts to AT&T's lineup, among them a dual-core CPU in the form of NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform. The CPU is clocked at 1GHz per core, providing enough zip to match the HSPA+ connectivity and 4G download... Read More
