Bring back the Light / Dark Theme setting ...
... the white is totally obnoxious IMO, especially at night ...
I totally agree with you. Especially the stupid White dock. I'm like uhh why would they make it white. Wonder if they would release a quick update that give users the option to change the theme colors to black or white for us.
Even contacts background, settings background has turned to white!
Even font size is bigger now (hopefully should be some setting for decreasing font size).
Some solutions please for changing background to black.....
EDIT
Installed Go launcher EX.. Liking it so far..
At least now home screen looks better..
Contacts is really f**up in GingerBread because of large fonts!

what about in settings and such? it's all white. i loved froyo's black look.
this white is killing my eyes!
edit:
tried handcent and it's nothing like froyo. feels clunky and the themes are meh. the white makes the screen look yellow.
If you are patient, and hunt around, you can find black versions of many of the popular apps. The term you want to use or be aware of in searching is "Inverted". You can find quite a few Inverted apps over on Droid Forums - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum - Search Results - and on the XDA Forum. Although their forum is trickier to navigate through. I'm not currently using any inverted apps with my themes, but I do know that with some minor exceptions, **the apps are not platform specific**. So you can use an Inverted LinkedIn or Facebook, which you found in a Droid X thread or an inverted Handcent found on a Droid Incredible thread, on your Atrix - it's simply an APK which you put on your SD Card and use a file manager like Astro or Root explorer to install. I *would* avoid any Inverted Markets, because those aren't usually apps, but zipped files which must be flashed. I'm leery of using that type of approach unless it's specific to the rom you have installed. Also take a look on MyDroidWorld Forum - some very talented developers hang out over there.
Also look into getting ADW Launcher. There are dozens and dozens of themes (many free) which you can download. Those themes dramatically change the way your phone looks.
The apps are out there, you just gotta find them.

What in the name of all that is holy did they do to the gallery?
I have over 2000 images in my gallery. They were all nicely sorted into folders. Now I go to the gallery and I have ONE folder with over 2000 images! Someone please tell me there's a way to sort these without having to individually move every single image into its own album.

i dont like that as well. but i saw if u go to files they are sorted. but i hope they change that back.

I was hoping that the update would FIX the Gallery. Well, it works, but, like you guys, I HATE IT! I organize all my pics into about 15 folders. I can't find CRAP in the new stock Gallery!!
Have you looked at the new MUSIC app??? They did the same CRAP to it as well.
And, to be able to get music info (Like album art) from online, you have to agree to SHARE your listening activity!!!!

That's the old FroYo (non-motoblur) stock gallery! Much prefer it to this messed up pile of fluff. I was hesitant because I didn't realize I could switch my default to it, but I can, and I just did. I really don't know what they were thinking with this change. Like they think users will go "Oh, wow, they pull all photo sources from every app and lump them all together! THAT IS AWESOME!"

One thing I LOVE about the new music app... songs are now listed in ALBUM order and NOT alphabetically!
As for the gallery, I was liking it initially but do agree that removing the folders was a bad idea. I noticed that downloaded pics from the main Gmail account do not even show up in the "all photos" folder. You actually need to browse to the downloaded folder to get to the pic. That sucks. From the browser and stock email app pics do show up in the "all photos" folder.
One thing I LOVE about the new music app... songs are now listed in ALBUM order and NOT alphabetically!
I keep mine on Shuffle, and I have VERY few Whole Albums on there. So, Alphabetically makes more sense for me. If not, I wind up having to open a dozen albums to find that one song since I can't remember what Album every one of the 4,000 songs on my SD card are on.
Back to the Gallery - It looks like you can sort the new gallery by location... fine if all your pics are tagged with a location.
Or, by Tags (Provided you've tagged all 500 pic's and linked them to a contact).
Why can't they put the Sort by FOLDER option back in there?? Many of mine have nothing to do with a Contact or a Location (Like my Wallpaper collection, or my Screenshots)!!
Liking it a lot so far. Nice and clean, and you can move pics to different folders from within the app.
I have to say, though, it always disappoints me to have to download a replacement to do what the stock app should do in the first place.
@lunameow - I have QuickPic as well. But, I find that it does not find new pictures (Say from the camera or a screenshot) until the media card is rescanned. Either by un-mounting, re-mounting it, or rebooting the phone. I'm still torn on if I want it to be the main gallery or the Stock FroYo Gallery.
sucks!! i am not a power user, heck i don't even know how to use all the features, but i assumed since this upgrade was supposed to be better than sex, i was supposed to download it and install it.
YUCK! i hate the white screens and that all the squared off edges on all the dialog boxes, screens, etc. it looks very unpolished.
I will admit there are things on gingerbread that are nice - I like the new screen lock clock - the old star trek or whatever you want to call it font sucked. I like the customizable dock buttons - the one thing i had wished for in froyo. and i really like the new keyboard - typing is 100% more accurate and at least twice as fast with quicker typing recognition and typing corrections. but i don't notice any performance issues, except maybe screens seem to be more laggy and jittery in GB!! odd, huh?
Is there a way to downgrade back to froyo? or at least can i change the white screens - they are driving me crazy!

Going back to Froyo would be difficult, if not impossible. Since your complaints seem to be cosmetic in nature - dealing with the appearance of the phone - why not check out some of the alternate launchers available from the market. ADW and LauncherPro are two of the more popular ones and at least ADW offers a variety of themes which change the way your phone looks. I'm not that familiar with LauncherPro, so I can't comment on any of the themes that may be available for it. There are also a number of other custom launchers available too - just open the market and type launcher.

Can someone merge all these 'Gingerbread sucks' threads into one so that everyone who doesn't like white backgrounds can have one place to talk about their grief.

Yes, I can so...
Welcome to the "Why I hate the new Gingerbread OTA" thread. Some love change, some hate it, or at least parts of it. Either way to keeps some things simple and clean in the Atrix area, all threads about disliking the new GB update will go in here. It will also act as a way for people who have not updated to see if they really want to.
By the way, you cannot return to Froyo once you flash Gingerbread. If you already did, and hate it, post here to let other know.

In the new Gallery, why did they decide to show your oldest photos shuffled as the background. It will never change if they always use the oldest. At least if they used the newest, then it would change every time a new photo was on your device.

That's the beauty of Android though. If you don't like a stock app, you can easily replace it on the market, unlike some other OS where you are stuck with whatever is given to you

Don't you mean "On other OS's where you are HONORED to use the app that Lord Job's has Blessed you with." ???

Oh, I agree completely. I love that I can change whatever I want. I'm just saying that I shouldn't have to do so just to achieve the most basic functionality. It'd be like going into your contacts list, and just getting a long list of phone numbers without names. Android/Motorola wouldn't dream of doing something like that, so it baffles me that they did this to the gallery.
I couldn't care less about colors, themes, docks, etc. as those are all customizable and I don't mind the small amount of time it takes to "have it my way" (as the King would say)...
The one thing I do hate is that the little magnified text bubble that used to appear when editing an email or text has gone away and I am at a loss on how to get it back. I thought that maybe it would come back when I installed the latest Swype beta but, sadly, no luck.
Hey now! My gallery whining got merged, but I don't hate the new GB OTA. I love it to pieces except the gallery thing. If it were a physical thing, I would snuggle it and let it sleep on my pillow. Just wanted to clarify that.
Hmmm..I hate the blue and white theme. Why no black theme? Seriously, who at Motorola decided to get rid of badass black theme and make it these colors?
I agree about the nice black theme, but from what I hear, it can look however we want it to. I didn't like the music player either, at first. But when I saw the lyrics scrolling as the music was playing, I was sold. I'm pretty new to this android stuff, so that was pretty cool to me.

Anyone notice in change in gps behavior? I used to leave gps checked, and it would activate when something needed it, then turn off when not used. Now it just stays on (gps icon in notifation bar.) Didn't notice this and battery ended up being drained. Now I have to manually turn the gps on/off when I want to use.

For me its the opposite. I leave it on now and it only activates when using GPS or maps. Before the icon would stay on until I turned it off.

Where did you hear that? Without rooting, the best you can get are themes for certain apps. Hardly a reasonable work around. My old LG Dare would let me choose between white or black...why not a high end Android device? It's just pathetic. Also, why are we stuck with the launcher in that position. I'd like three items in the dock with the launcher in the middle...like it should be.

hehe...that's just messed up.
Maybe I'll try a factory reset. Haven't needed to that in a while and hate to lose all my stuff, but It's a bit annoying.
Or, maybe I'll give tasker another go. Originally wanted it for just this purpose but when I found the gps would turn on/off as needed, decided I didn't really need it.

O.o I hope Evil is the only one that sees this with the GPS.
But, I find that it does not find new pictures (Say from the camera or a screenshot) until the media card is rescanned. Either by un-mounting, re-mounting it, or rebooting the phone.
Try SDRescan on the market. Free, and it saves you the hassle of rebooting your phone for it to find new images.

"A small tool that invokes the android media scanner to rescanning the SD card for new media files."
I would assume that, by that, it triggers the built in re-scan and would pick up on everything (Pics, music, vids...). My concern with this is, whenever I've tried something like this, It's re-indexed the media and broken all the links to my MANY custom ringtones.
Well, I can tell you I've used it for...probably 6 months now...with no issues, beyond that it can sometimes take a minute or two to go through the process. And that's not really a problem so much as it's me being impatient.
I should add that I also have many custom ringtones, and this has never had any affect on those. My understanding of the app is that it's updating the index, not changing the locations of files or anything of that nature.

Multitasking FTW!
Just download. Hopefully it picks up the 5GB of song I threw on there, lol.

It's in this thread. A few posts up states that there are a number of launcher apps that allow you to customize. I haven't delved too deeply yet but I'm sure I'll fine something. I see what you are saying though, that should be a simple task as going into "settings" and changing what you like.
