Default Settings background is white not black?

I look at reviews of phone and whenever they go to their settings their background is a nice black color, but on mine it's a nasty pasty white :C Is there any way to change this? The same goes for the contacts, it's all white D:!
I have an unrooted, 2.3 Gingerbread atrix from AT&T

Those screenshots in the reviews were from months ago when the phone first came out. It was running 2.2 (FroYo).

Gingerbread (2.3) uses the black text on an off-white background. This is much easier on most people's eyes (Myself, it HURTS to read light text on a black background). It's also easier to see in bright light.

This is part of the OS and not a user configurable setting.

Default it can be done..

You can either install one of the themes that has the inverted settings or you can do it yourself..

You will need to decompile Settings.apk and Contacts.apk to do this.

Decompile the files and open up AndroidManifest.xml(I use Notepad++) and look for this line:

application android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light (line 50 or so)

and change it to this:

application android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Black"

You can go over to the Atix 4G forum on XDA and look at the Theme & Apps section, there will be themes in there with the inverted settings like you're looking for. If your phone is unlocked(bootloader) and you don't mine some of the minor bugs, CM7 Beta has this setting as well, same with Alien ROM 4.

Also, if you're interested in learning how to theme yourself, there is a thread with tips/tricks on how to accomplish this and what is needed. There's just too much to type up to get you started in this unless you're already familiar with ADB and using the SDK... a great tool to use is apk manager I linked both for you... the first link will have the links to all the tools you will need to start...
