I'm a proud owner of the Atrix almost since it came out. My company uses MobileIron technology to protect our phones, and it does not allow the pattern to be used to unlock. But it lets the fingerprint scanner, and that has been the biggest differentiation with this phone. While pulling it out of my pocket, I can swipe my finger, and it's unlocked and ready by the time I see it. It's been reliable, secure, and doesn't get me mad like my old blackberry did.
My question is this: I'm comfortable with keeping this phone for a while, but sooner or later wouldn't mind upgrading. Does anyone know of other phones (current or rumored) that has the same functionality?
Right now this is the only phone with that feature. And it is really nice! There are othe phones though, like the Galaxy Nexus that uses your face to unlock your device, but it can also be unlocked with a picture.

You'd think Motorola would have included the fingerprint scanner when they created the Atrix 2. I mean the fingerprint scanner is what makes an Atrix an Atrix and stand out from the other Android phones.

Yeah Exactly! Hopefully, Motorola releases like an Atrix 3 or something and brings back the fingerprint scanner.

I too love the fingerprint scanner. It does put the Atrix 4G in a class all by its self with this feature. I don't like the face detection security, since I can unlock my Atrix when driving using the fingerprint scanner. (not to mention what someone else mentioned above.) Got to admit, it would be hard for someone to steal your fingerprint to unlock your phone.

I was told that if you were to take a silly putty or clay and mold your finger print, it should work.

Even nearly a year after it's release the Atrix 4G stands toe to toe with every phone currently available. Some might have a slightly faster processor or or bigger and or better screen, but none have the combination available with the Atrix 4G. A GB of Ram, 16 GB of on board storage, dual core 1GB Processor, fingerprint scanner, QHD resolution, 720p Hi Def recording, 4g (HSUPA) speeds.
Sadly I'd like to upgrade someday too, but I want this phone with a 1.5 (or better) dual core, a bigger brighter screen like the Atrix 2 and 4g LTE (or greater) speed, and I doubt I will ever see it.

1) A friend recently went to purchase an AT&T Android, and asked the rep if any phones had this feature. He was told no, and that the reason was the fingerprint scanner, made by IBM, was very expensive. Now I'm sure some customers would pay extra for the feature, but that's what he was told.
2) I work with a team of engineers with background in security and pen testing. They tried putty, scotch tape, compressed air and latex gloves to try to duplicate my fingerprint, which was last on the phone and I would give them upon demand. They couldn't find a way to open the phone. If you just lay your finger on a sensor, that's a whole lot easier to fake. But actually moving your finger wipes the existing traces as it swipes, and no reasonable alternative was found.

Thanks for the input. I love the fingerprint scanner on my Lenovo, so I was quite excited when I got my Atrix!
Someone on here posted that it would be easy to replicate your fingerprint and unlock the phone using the scanner.

I was so mad when I saw the post about the laptop dock going for $100 ($150?) at AT& T. Pissed me off that I didn't catch this news earlier
I love the scanner too. Seems like there are no plans for a future phones to have one. I am looking seriously at the Samsung Note - even though I swore to never get another Samsung after the Captivate disaster. The thing I will miss most about the Atrix, no matter what my next phone is, will be the fingerprint scanner.
. Behind the 4.6-inch display, the Japanese hid a quad-core Tegra 3 chipset (the most powerful currently on the market), an extraordinary 13MP camera, NFC chip. The device comes pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Fujitsu flagship will be equipped with a fingerprint sensor and it will be water and dust resistant.
WOW!!! That's like our PERFECT phone replacement for the Atrix!!! *drools* What the Atrix2 should have been!!!
The Motorola Atrix 4G brings several firsts to AT&T's lineup, among them a dual-core CPU in the form of NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform. The CPU is clocked at 1GHz per core, providing enough zip to match the HSPA+ connectivity and 4G download... Read More
