Smile Atrix has been great. What's next?

I really have loved the Atrix. It has plenty of power and connectivity, but my favorite feature has been the fingerprint reader. I remember thinking that I would never use the fingerprint reader when I first got it! Boy was I wrong. The one thing that I don't like about the Atrix is the screen. It's not bad, but it is a little small and the Samsung AMOLED screens blow it away in every way.

I'm the type who thinks two full years with the same phone is too long. It's only because the Atrix is so cool and powerful that I have made it this far. I am due for a new phone in October, which means I should be able to convince the manager at the ATT store to give me one a couple of months early in August. For months now I've been looking at upcoming phones and trying to figure out what to replace the Atrix with while keeping in mind that I don't want to have to go back to unlock codes or swipe patterns. None of the new phones have fingerprint readers.

So enter the Galazy SIII. The specs on this thing are amazing and it has a massive 4.8" AMOLED screen! It has everything that I dream of spec wise. I recently found out that it can unlock using facial and/or voice recognition. So it looks like I have made up my mind that this will be my next phone. My 48 year old eyes are not getting any better. I can't wait to get a hold of that AMOLED screen. I actually considered a Samsung Note for a while, but it is just a little bit too big.

So what phone are you waiting for or planning to get after Atrix?

John

I'm not due for an upgrade till January. I actually use a Galaxy S2, but that's because my wife was due up for an upgrade but really does not care about what phone she uses so I traded from the Atrix to get a phone easier to root and play with (A functionality I really don't take advantage of it seems).

I have to say my next phone will be the Atrix 3/Dinara or whichever Motorola phone comes out next most likely. Otherwise I will probably be going for a Sony device.

I personally hate the SAmoled screen on my GS2. Everytime I look at the phone I can never get over how fake everything looks. I would give the 4.3" WVGA SAmoled+ screen up for the 4" qHD Pentile LCD screen in a heartbeat.

I have both of those screens, and while the Samoled screen may be a bit brighter than normal, at least it is a crisp picture. When I first got the pentile screen I didn't think I would mind it, but the longer I have it, the more weary I grow of seeing everything through a slight blurry edge.

So I have a question for you guys. Do the Samoled screens give true life colors or do they make the colors brighter then the actual scene of the picture taken? Thanks.

You have to see one for yourself and decide. The black is blacker and the white is whiter than on any screen that you have ever seen. It almost looks fake. To me we have all gotten used to seeing "not real world" colors on our TVs and devices, so the SAMOLED screens kind of look surrealistic at first - almost like a cartoon. They are also sharper than any screen I have ever seen and work great outside in the sun. There is absolutely no blur whatsoever.

All I know is I switched from a first generation Samsung Galaxy Captivate to my Atrix. The Atrix is a MUCH better phone than the the Captivate, but the screen took a while to get used to. The AMOLED screen on Captivate was way better than the Atrix screen to my eyes.

Looking at the specs for the Atrix HD; it looks nice, but not nearly enough to sway me from the Galaxy III.

Atrix HD accidentally posted early on Motorola's website - TechSpot News
