Default 2.1 officially coming

Looks like 2.1 will be coming for sure. Unfortunately it looks like you will all have to wait until Q3 for it to happen.

Default what will it bring to the backflip?

Are the same changes expected on the backflip as what I have read about other android phones? I don't mean to sound dense, but does motoblur affect the update at all? Currently I am still trying to decide what carrier I am going to change to and what android phone I want. I am on a local carrier and will change in the next month and I have narrowed it down to AT&T and Verizon. I am just not completely sold on the backflip. I am more impressed with it since I played with it a bit at the store but the motoblur (which doesn't really interest me) has me on the fence.

Well, the Backflip is certainly a niche device. Either it's for you or it's not. The downside of the Backflip is the SoC. Meaning it's not as powerful as some of the Android phones coming out. What it does have going for it though is the social networking aspect along with a good form factor and fairly decent keyboard.

Now I guess I'll answer your question lol... Yes and No. It will get a lot of the improvements but likely it won't get the live wallpapers and potentially not flash and a few other things. The reason behind this would be due to the SoC(CPU/GPU) not being quite powerful enough.

Keep in mind this is purely my speculation.

As for which carrier to go with? Depends on coverage in your area, who has the best? Personally I've been with Sprint, Verizon and AT&T in the last several years. My experience with Verizon wasn't the best... great service but seriously screwed up billing(I know several people that have had major issues with their billing). AT&T... mediocre to great service. Sprint... well they have their issues but it seems they have worked on resolving/resolved a lot of their issues.

Go play with phones in the stores. Make sure you get one you won't regret.

Sorry if none of that makes any sense. Feel free to ask any more question lol.

Well, the live wallpapers shouldn't really be an issue. The Droid is only clocked at 550mhz and it does live wallpaper just fine. So, I guess, who knows. I'm not sure what flash would do performance wise but it should be at least ok. It may be bad enough that they leave it out though. I guess we'll find out when it comes out.

If you are choosing between VZ and AT&T. I would wait until the Incredible comes out and then check out it and compare it to the Backflip. Not sure if you have to have the qwerty keyboard if so then you will want the Backflip but if not then there are other options.

Keep in mind there's supposedly still (3) devices coming...
The original announcement at MWC was that there would be (5) android devices released in 1H2010, from Moto, Dell, and HTC.

Moto released the backflip, we know the Dell is the Aero, there's still (3) devices left to go. Whether they butcher the 2 that are left, remains to be seen.

And add the Samsung to the mix as well. Or that is the latest rumor. But it is not for me I know. Will not buy a Samsung item that is on the cutting edge due to past experence.

Saw that - I'm just going by what they announced at MWC, but heck, if they want to bring more, I'm all for it - nothing better than choice.

I have a preference for keyboards, and kinda' need AT&T (or T-Mobile, but questionable service from them here) for the inat'l aspects of GSM phones.

If the Samsung "i897" rumor is true, that would bring the total to 6 on AT&T... Curious if any of the remaining 3 have keyboards, though. AT&T always seems to have a few kb models in the product listings. Hope android is no different.

The Droid is only clocked at 550Mhz but it uses a different architecture. It's an ARMv7 chip vs the Backflip's ARMv6. Also the Droid's OMAP has a great 3D accelerator which is what drives the live wallpapers to my knowledge.

As for what everyone else said, I completely agree. Wait because there are some great phones coming out. AT&T is going to be getting the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire, and Dell Aero while Verizon has the Incredible coming out and I believe the Motorola Shadow(I think that's what it's called).

So there are a lot of potentially great phones coming out. Not to mention Sprint has the Evo 4G, Legend and who knows what else. Lots of great things coming out!

AT&T has started posting references to 2.1 on their Backflip pages, and have also updated their online Backflip manual to reflect the changes in 2.1, so it's coming very soon. I recently rooted a Backflip and put a leaked 2.1 on it, but I am curious to see how it runs with an official release. It's kind of slow with the version I have on there, but it was kind of slow with 1.6 as well.
