AT&T and Motorola have released an update to the Motorola BACKFLIP device to enhance overall performance of the device. This software update provides improvements to messaging, display, camera, and Bluetooth functionality. This update will upgrade BACKFLIP devices from software version 0.12.1199 to 0.13.35.
This Blur Over The Air (BOTA) update will be a two stage process. The first update will be marked “1 of 2” and will take between 35 seconds and one (1) minute to download over 3G. The second update will be marked “2 of 2” and will take between three (3) and 10 minutes to download over 3G. The updates will download in the background and customers can resume normal operation of the device during the downloads. While customers can use their device as normal during the download process, they will be unable to make and receive calls during the installation of the update.
The update will be made available for customers who check for updates from their device on May 5, 2010. The updates will be pushed to customer devices beginning May 11, 2010.
PS: Doesn't appear to be live yet.

I'm quite sure it's just a patch update of 1.5. Motorola is focusing on 2.1 and nothing in between as far as I've heard. No sense in porting incrementally to 1.6 when you can go straight to 2.1
Well I just checked this morning and they removed the information from our internal website. There must have been an issue with it. I will keep everyone updated.

Any word on the enhancement update for the Backflip. Trying to keep up with it for my girlfriend who owns the phone? An update improving overall performance would be great!
Just finished the update. Hard to tell what's different just yet. General navigation seems speedier. Anyone have a feature list included with this release?

For whatever reason my wife's isn't showing the update. She's tried updating manually and it shows nothing. She's still on version 0.12.1199. Reset the phone and everything. Anyone have any ideas?
And WDCMA cannot be turned off on my phone, but couldn't before either.
I am able to do this with SwitchPan, I'll post screen shots tonight. Also when I do update; I'll post if that fixes non-market apps. I am in California, so it may be a time zone thing, so AT&T does not get locked down by everyone updating thier phones
Same here, no update yet. As for

If you haven't received the update yet its due to the fact that the update is sent out in waves. The first 5% gets it, then 20% and so on. So people will get it at random times. This was told to me by a Motorola Android Rep. Just an fyi for you guys out there that haven't gotten the update as of yet.

Yeah I'm still on the 12 version. Clicking update check in the About section of the settings doesn't show any new updates. Guess I'll have to wait for it.
Question for those that got it - did you get a notice on the phone that showed up to alert you that the update was available?
If you have the update please post your feedback in that thread, when it is opened for posting, so that they can evaluate the update and get it rolled out to everyone else.
Actually the feedback thread is locked as it states that the SW update is live tomorrow 05/13/10....not yesterday or today. Once it goes live (and only for 1000 customers) then the feedback thread will be live as well
Hello, I'm from Argentina, I have a backflip that I purchase in usa. I would like update my android but I have to do it using my PC I can't do it using my local currier.
Somebody can help me?
I am currently updating my device. I was able to get the update so I'll be posting my feedback here and on the Moto website about this update. Anyone else lucky enough to have gotten this preview update?
PS: Currently undergoing step two. Step one took like 2-5 minutes. Step two shouldn't take too long either.
PS x2: The second step seems like it'll take a little bit longer due to the long time spend downloading step 2 whereas step 1 downloaded in about a minute.

Just finished the second step and I was right. It took about 5-6 minutes which is a bit longer than the first step. Right now my device is booting up. I'm hoping for some visible improvements on performance.
Been playing with the update like crazy and this is what i have noticed so far:
System speed has improved greatly (almost no lag whatsoever, est 150% faster)
Camera has much imporved
Still CANNOT install non-market apps
Still able to disable 3G using switchpan
All apps except QIK still work including sipdroid The buttons turn off in dim-clock mode now
Over all this is a killer update.
If you don't get the DL there are 1,000 other people making sure there are no additional bugs in the update.
Sounds like it can be a win either way.
I think Moto is being cautious because of problems they have had with earlier OTA updates.
I got the update this morning! And so far i can see the improvements. There is no longer a lag in texting, the camera pops right up, navigating through screens def. alot smoother.
My wife for some reason says she hasn't seen a performance benefit, but says one thing she has noticed for sure is that opening web links from gmail is much better. Before they would rarely open for her, now they open and fairly quickly at that.

overall this is been a superb improvement for sure. the phone is now many times more sleeker than it was previously.i have been able to jump back and forth from screen to screen with very very little hiccup, if any at all. texting is now also greatly improved with no text lag in threads that have 500+ text. this update definitely gives the device a bit more of a high end feel for sure.
